Please make sure you have downloaded the Sony Music Center app. There you will find all sorts of tools to fine-tune your SRSXP500 and maximize the volume to your liking. There is even an EQ. Please note that while the sound effect is set to STAMINA mode, the lighting function and the sound effects, including MEGA BASS mode, are set to off.
