To ensure optimal listening experience, please make sure you have downloaded the Sony Music Center app. There you will find all sorts of tools to fine-tune your SRSXP700 and maximize the volume to your liking. There is even an EQ.
For more information, please refer to this link: https://helpguide.sony.net/speaker/srs-xp500/v1/en/contents/TP1000243111.html And please note: The volume will become low when the maximum sound volume for playing music depends on whether the speaker is running on power from the connected AC outlet or from the rechargeable built-in battery. This, however, does not indicate a malfunction. To play music louder, connect the speaker to an AC outlet.

This is not a theatre setup it is a TV in a gameroom for sports events and plying music or videos. It works great

Big and power music center

Being suited for use upright or on its side, the two handles make it easier to handle. Two people can each grab a handle if needed. It does music, karaoke, microphone, guitar, and illumination duty. Being big, it has a large battery with up to 25 hrs and you can charge your portable devices from it. It is also weather resistant rated with IPX4. Sound is great. With larger and multiple speakers in it, you get better play back. With the mega bass it can really boom. Did not have any problems with lows. Just make sure the volume is at a decent level so it can reproduce it. The sound also carries well indoors or outdoors. It can fill a room or a local area if outdoors. Distortion at higher volumes was not an issue. The microphone input is a 1/4-inch jack. I used it and it works well for a PA system too, or to sing along with music. There is also a 1/4-inch jack for plugging in a guitar. Each has its own input dial for merging into the current selection, or not at all. The apps can really make the unit shine. There are two, the Sony Music Center, and the Sony's Fiestable. The music center is for connection, setting bluetooth priority, sound, power, connections, music playback from phone or online sources, and illumination. The sound has preset or custom setting as you want to use. Power lets you select battery use priorities. You can select aux in or USB inputs. If your music center is setup for it, you can select music to play I the app and link to Feistable. Feistable can let you control the music and lights. DJ modes, change the light mode and how it reacts. Bring down the voice or the bass in a song as you want. There are LEDs in the handles that shine out and reflect off the unit. You can set the color or have the app do it. The lights worked will with music and respond nicely from classical to rock. The lights really work in dark settings and give off a party atmosphere. The unit can be linked to other Sony bluetooth speakers and be played together. However, this is another generation of the Sony group play and will not with previous version. Check online to see which group play units it will work with. This is a big unit and has its advantages due to it. More power, lights, connections, and better deeper sound. The Sony apps help to take full advantage of the options available on it. With microphone and guitar inputs it really is a music center, and not just a wireless speaker.

Great speaker for the price, neat lighting!

I did return it but only because I realized I wanted something larger and louder as I am picky with volume levels. I contemplated getting the big brother model of this, the SXP700, but elected to go with the JBL PartyBox 310 since it was finally back in stock. Still, for $350 it is a really great speaker and would easily hold its own for 90% of people I think would be in the market for a speaker like this.

Powerful Quality Sound and Great Features!

Sound I'm blown away by the volume and quality of the sound! The tweeters produce a strong high end that comes through strong and the woofers are loud and quality. I listened to vocals, classical, drums, guitars, electric guitars, deep bass, and even just TV. The sound is excellent all around, rich, full, and clear. It has no problem filling a room with quality sound. I was extra impressed by the bass! The XP500 has some sort if rear-firing sub-woofer but it produces a very strong ambient bass - so it's not at all like the bass going the wrong direction. I was clearly able to hear it and feel the bass it everywhere! Easy to Use There are just a handful of large, easy to read, easy to push buttons on top. The default settings give incredible sound! It's easy to plug in to another device or to pair it to a Bluetooth device. For many functions like customizing the lights (you can turn them on and off with a button on the back of the speaker) you'll need the Sony Music Center app and the Sony Fiestable app. These apps let you see the battery level, give you custom EQs, select music to play from a flash drive that's connected to the speaker, Karaoke features, vocal effects, and more. Inputs I love the inputs on the XP500! It has an 1/8" stereo line-in, and two other 1/4" line-ins for a mic. The second mic input also has a button to make it a guitar input so you can use this speaker as a guitar amp. Not only that but both of the 1/4" inputs have a dial for independent volume control. There are also two USB ports that you can use to charge devices or plug in a flash drive to play music. Stereo Due to the design with two woofers and two tweeters, with each of one type across from the other, this speaker actually does provide stereo separation! It automatically senses if it's in vertical or horizontal orientation. When vertical, it give left/right separation with the tweeters, when horizontal, it gives left/right separation with the woofers. The speakers are not far apart so you may not always notice it but I tested up close and sure enough, it does it! I'm impressed that not only did Sony do this but they put a sensor in to adjust for orientation. When horizontal you will only lay it down the correct way because there are feet on the one side. It's we'll though out and a cool bonus even if not needed in a speaker like this. Battery Life The battery life is excellent! I've been using it a lot and I'm really impressed at how long it lasts. I have the lights on almost all the time and of course the volume level will make a huge difference in battery life but I'm impressed, great sound and I haven't had to think about the battery. There is a Stamina mode you can enable if you need it to last longer. Hold down the "Mega Bass" button until the "Stamina" light comes on. This speaker plugs into an AC outlet to charge. It does not charge off USB, but it will charge other devices over USB. Also!!! This speaker is water resistant. While it's not made to handle any direct spraying it should be fine with the occasional splash. It also supports Party Connect to connect up to 100 Party Connect speakers together and have them play the same thing! With a second identical speaker you have the option of using them as the left and right channels for stereo audio or having them play the same thing. Warning! I discovered Sony has two incompatible wireless speaker connectivity technologies. One is Wireless Party Chain and the other is Party Connect. The XP500 supports Party Connect and will not connect wirelessly with Sony speakers that support Wireless Party Chain. Make sure you're aware of this if you plan to connect it to other speakers wirelessly.

Mic gets staticky while music is playing, so horrible for karaoke, had to use a different speaker just for the mic. Its price should be lower compared to its performance.
