Heavy but PHENOMENAL
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I almost included a picture of a toddler next to this speaker to give you an idea of the size. I'm over 6' tall and the top hits at my thigh. All that size and weight lets Sony do ridiculous things with this speaker such as: blow the doors off a party, double as a guitar amp speaker, help the aforementioned toddler conduct impromptu karaoke sessions, and basically just bring what equates to a full-on multi speaker setup installed in the ceiling of your patio but without any wiring because it's sitting on the ground. To start, the bass on this puppy pounds. Overall sound signature is clear across the range, but it definitely has the capability of overwhelming the neighbors a couple doors down (or maybe create a sudden dance party). Indoors the lower volumes provide plenty of clarity and should you kick it up to 50% volume or more, your kids will probably question why you're trying to blow out their ear drums. Personally I love the interactive lights but love the 25 hour battery life even more. I wouldn't be surprised at this price if I had to stay connected to a cord, but the fact that I get splash resistance and portability means this monster can come out on the friend's boat and easily makes him question whether he really needs to spend money on a sound system. I can see this being a great budget PA for things like band camps, cheer camp, etc... while providing double duty when you want to throw on some music during breaks. I literally can not speak highly enough of this speaker. It's not often that I'm this impressed by some piece of tech, but this reminds me of when I first listened to a reference audiophile set in a home theater setup. It's not that it specifically is audiophile quality but more so when you listen you realize that what you assumed was the best before was actually just a 7 or 8 and you have a new 10 when it comes to portable bluetooth speakers. Connectivity was easy, and the Fiestable and Music Center apps provided clean interfaces that made whatever I wanted to change intuitive. There wasn't any guessing as to how to change light colors or turn them off if you needed to go a bit more incognito. I sadly didn't have a second one to try party connect but the desire is very very strong to pick up another to do so. Considering what it would cost for worthwhile speakers for the patio ceiling between hardware, electrical, etc... this is no-brainer alternative.

Great Pool Speaker
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.THE BREAKDOWN: This Sony SRS-XP500 speaker is very well made, heavy, larger than expected but overall, the speaker is amazing!! The sound quality was very impressive, and the MEGA Bass option really delivered. We have and outdoor pool that is 18 X 36 with a large area to entertain and we found that this speaker alone could do the job. Before we had 2 speakers spanning the area but with this one, we found that with the proper placement we could now just use one. I found that the so called “X-Balanced” system delivered very balanced mid and highs. There was no volume setting that was to high and distorted the sound. One of the other features that I found nice was the IPX4 water rating as we use this exclusively outdoor at the pool. With tons of kids and adults splashing around it is nice to have the extra coverage. Battery life for me was about 19 hours per charge but I feel this has everything to do with how loud you play it, the light settings ect….. Everyone’s experience will be different. I think for the size and output this is pretty good! This speaker can be setup vertically or horizontally as they have rubber feet to accommodate either position. On the top of the speaker there are buttons for On/Off, Bluetooth, Play/Pause, Volume +/- and MEGA BASS. On the back/rear part of the speaker there is a rubber door that once you pullout reveals two 1/4” inputs that each have their own level controls. The ports are for a guitar, microphone or whatever instrument you want to connect. There is also a 3.5mm input and 2 USB ports one for charging one for input or charging. Above this rubber door are 3 rubber buttons labeled “light”, “battery care” and “party connect”. I really like the battery care button as you can check the battery level at anytime by pushing the button and you hear an audible message stating what percentage your battery is currently at. I have used both Sony apps the Sony Music Center and Fiestable and they both worked as intended for me. PRO’s: -Solid built -USB play and Charge -IPX4 rating -Vertical or horizontal positioning -Great battery life CON’s: -Heavy SUMMARY: Overall, this product worked well and as intended, and I would recommend this to a friend if they are in the market for device like this.

Sony Delivers Huge Sound - Brilliantly!
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The Sony XP700 X is a monster speaker with impressive sound. Out of the box this speaker is huge and a bit heavy (37.26 lbs.) This makes sense because of its two 6.7-inch mid-range drivers and four tweeters. One of those is backward firing for its marketed “omnidirectional” sound. Mid-range drivers are square shaped to offer a larger diaphragm surface area. Twenty-Five hours of battery life is remarkable for its size and speaker array and justifies the weight. To accommodate the weight, the speaker boasts two large handles which are comfortable and ergonomic. Entire build is made of solid plastic. Front grill is substantial metal and is not removable. Rubber feet on the speaker’s side allow it to be set horizontal as well as vertical. Nine-inch slot in the top of the speaker allows for a phone or tablet to be set there securely, cool. IPX4 water resistance means the unit is protected against splashing water but is untested against solids. Bluetooth pairing is simple and flawless. Speaker connection appeared on my phone as soon as I turned it on. Rear of the device has an IO panel with a power port, two USB ports, two ¼” jacks, and a 3.5mm jack. Both USB ports can charge devices and one can play music. One ¼” jack supports a microphone and the other supports either a mic or guitar. Guitar sounds good with the speaker but gain knob could not push the electric guitar to clip. IO panel is enclosed by a rubber seal which is water resistant. Top of the unit has power, Bluetooth, play/pause, volume, and a “mega bass boost” button. These buttons are large and offers tactile feedback. Party connect, battery, and light buttons are on the rear of the unit. Lighting is reactive to your music and is very stylish. Battery care feature prevents overcharging and prolongs battery health. Party connect allows up to 100 Sony compatible speakers to be linked together in concert to fully be immersed in Rock or Smooth Jazz. Sony Music Center app allows for extra customization of this speaker. You can choose a preset EQ or you can create your own. There is also a ClearAudio+ option which is “Sony’s recommended sound setting for music listening with one simple operation.” There are also DJ effects including isolator and flanger. There are also a myriad of power and lighting options. The app also shows the exact battery level of the device. If you are looking to “Live Life Loud” the Sony XP700 will rock your world. will rock your world.

Amazing bass, super loud. Party on!
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Wow. This thing really kicks butt! Which is to say, the Sony XP-500 is really, really loud, cranks out way more bass than I could handle and still manages to balance out all the frequencies enough so it sounds pretty darn good, no matter what kind of music you are playing. (You might have to turn off "mega-bass" though since it can be pretty overpowering. ) Credit Sony's new X-balanced speaker system for the improved sound quality over earlier models. Did I mention it is battery powered, running for up to 20 hours on a single charge? Waterproof enough to use around the pool (IPX 4 water resistance) . And can handle not only all the bluetooth music you want to feed it, from phone, tablet or laptop, but also will double as a guitar amp (if you are not too demanding) and PA system ( if you have a microphone you want to plug into it.) And to top it off, it provides an interesting light show via new indirect LED lights that are built into the handles, and thus reflect back onto the cabinet rather than straight into your eyes. I am not sure that is an advantage but Sony seems to think it is. Of course, you can turn the lights off entirely all those moving flashing lights are bugging you for some reason. (Use the "delightful" setting -- I am not making this up -- for the biggest variety of colors and patterns.) The entire operation is actually very customizable using Sony's Music Center App. It allows you to choose several different pre-set sound profiles (ClearAudio + seemed to work best for me) or build your own;. choose between a dozen or so different "illumination" patterns, from mild to wild, and pair it up with other compatible bluetooth speakers (true stereo is possible with other Sony speakers) to crank out even more sound. But for most folks, this one speaker cabinet is more than enough to fill a pretty large room with music in almost any house. If bluetooth is not your thing, you can make direct connections from phones and other device via an auxiliary cable or plug in a USB drive loaded with music. The well-integrated Music Center app allows you to pick artists, songs or albums. The USB ports also can be used to charge USB devices if you are not in too big a hurry since there are no high power charging ports here (1.5A max). This thing is the Swiss army knife of bluetooth speakers. It's pretty easy on the eyes too, thanks to a new curvy design that leaves no room for sharp corners. The cabinet is all plastic but stylish built-in handles at the top and bottom make it easy to grab and go, as long as you have the muscle to lug this thing. It is a pretty hefty 37 pounds. A sturdy metal grate on the front protects the speakers from damage. The speaker is designed to be used in both the upright vertical position or horizontal, with rubber feet along one side if you opt for that configuration. There are only a few minor downsides. The first is that instructions that come with it are in type as tiny as ant tracks so pretty useless for older eyes. Download the web version for a much easier experience. The input labels and controls on the back of the speaker are similarly impossible to read in all but the brightest environments. A not so useful black on black color scheme. So fine for the beach or pool maybe but not so much inside the house.

Live your life loud with this speaker
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is a multi use speaker with loud volume capability and excellent sound clarity. The Sony SRS XP500 offers a really modern and upscale look with modern style. Durable usage and portability for indoor and outdoor use. A portable Bluetooth speaker with some Mega Bass that Sony uniquely offers. IPX4 water resistant is perfect to have outdoors for picnics or pool parties. This speaker can withstand some gentle splashing or minor rain or sprinkles. Easy to grasp dual handles for picking this speaker up and taking it on the go and moving it from place to place. Weighs approximately 25 pounds so it's got some weight to it, but isn't impossible to lug around in the back of the SUV or for tailgating. This speaker is versatile as it will allow you to stand it vertically or lay it down horizontally for your appropriate space. You can use the input jacks on the back of this unit to plug in your microphone and also a guitar as well. The best part of this speaker for me is that it's cordless so you can achieve true wire free usability. With a full charge you can take this speaker on the go. Also use the 2 USB ports on the back to charge your device or you can also play music directly from your smartphone via USB. Most will use the Bluetooth 5.0 to utilize their music streaming on this for smooth and solid wireless connection. To bump up the party effect you can utilize the LED lighting for illumination and choose the mood you prefer. A must have to maximize your usage of this speaker is the Sony Music Center app available in the App Store for my iPhone XR. This speaker has fantastic sound and great looks. Sony has offered a very versatile Bluetooth speaker and battery pack in one.

Big Sound - Great Bass
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The Sony SRS-XP700 portable blue tooth speaker comes in at a nearly 38 pounds and in the upright position, stands nearly 28 inches tall. Does it have a handle so it can be lifted and moved? Surely. Can it run for a phenomenal 25 hours on battery? Absolutely! Would I call it portable? I suppose. But honestly, this thing is a beast and for most people, grabbing it by the handle and moving it around - easily - from location to location isn't going to be fun. With that out of the way, the build quality is ALL Sony. Behind the speaker grille is a solid array of drivers that produce the massive sound field. The protected rear port panel is stout and it's protective cover easily swings down, out of the way. In there you will find the AC power cord port, two USB parts, two quarter inch jack inputs - one strictly for a microphone and another that can be switched from microphone to guitar input - and both jacks with separate, dedicated gain controls. Lastly, there is a audio input 3.5mm mini-jack port, to be used for any auxiliary input you choose - even something as rudimentary as hard wiring a smart phone instead of connecting with blue tooth. Above this access panel are buttons to control three features of the SRS-XP700 if you want immediate access without resorting to the Sony Music Center mobile app; party connect pairing, battery care and lighting. Handy for basic connections but if you're using a phone to source your music or streams, load Music Center - it's a well-designed, mature mobile app and gives you complete control over the speaker. I personally give Sony mobile apps the high possible recommendations because they are simply designed & supported brilliantly. Pairing the XP700 was a breeze and went off without a hitch. The controls on the top of the unit have nicely presented LED indicators, with a soft but not overpowering glow to them. The Sony SRS-XP700 has an IPX4 water resistance rating that should provide plenty of protection for light spills or light rain - but don't plan on leaving this beast outdoors in the element for any length of time... it's not water proof! The sound quality is absolutely no-compromise and I found that the fidelity at moderate to loud playing levels to be just fine without the need to enable Mega Bass. Sound quality is quite subjective and is not only influenced by one’s own personal sense of hearing but also the environment the equipment it located in - but for me - Mega Bass was only needed at lowered volumes levels, for both indoor and outdoor enjoyment. When played more 'loudly', Mega Bass was simply just too BOOMY for my tastes. Your personal preferences may vary. The lighting elements (horizontal bars) are located at the top and bottom of the unit. They are fairly diffused and not over-the-top. But the color theme options are a bit underwhelming and to me – uninspiring. I don't own microphones but I do own an electric guitar - and the input with the guitar plugged in directly was fine, full and clear. I did notice some slight added distortion when using an effects processing box between the guitar and the SRS-XP700, but that's OK. I don't consider this to a replacement for a traditional guitar amplifier - but it does work in pinch. Over all I think the SRS-XP700 is a masterfully crafted blue tooth power-house, that offers a great omni directional sound field and plenty of 'punch' for even really large settings or gatherings. I never felt wanting for more treble, mid-range or bass. No matter if it was more run-of-the-mill MP3 sources, high quality FLAC files and even a multitude of streaming channels ... everything was loud, clear and enjoyable. The battery life is phenomenal considering it's size but I would recommend that you turn the lighting off for anticipated, long playing sessions. And to be quite honest, I'm not a big fan of the lights in general anyhow... but that's just me. Pros: High fidelity, large room filling or large outdoor space sound Well-appointed and positioned ports; more than adequate and with the USB ports - a great way to keep the device supplying the source sound powered at all times That build quality that only Sony can do; understated but stylish The ability to take microphone AND guitar inputs Very capable cordless operation with that humongous, built-in battery rated for up to 25 hours Very simple and straight-forward, moisture protected buttons across the top panel and along the rear for quick manual control Easy pairing and quick connections each and every time Can be laid down if preferred or if your ‘environment’ demands it; but only on one side The Music Center app Notables: Uninspiring lighting It is heavy, so just know that going into it before you buy Cons: None High Recommended

|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. It Gets Loud if you need volume. Great Party speaker or could use for live gatherings or sing and play guitar with the 2 mic/instrument inputs. Lighting is bright and has good motion to the music or can be turned off. Can connect to another same speaker for stereo but must be same brand and type. I did try to pair to a Sony portable speaker with no success. Very heavy so no worry's for it falling over, should stay put! Appears to be a Solid Build Quality. Will Also be ok if you run into a rain situation. Very easy to connect due to 5.0 blue tooth and the Sony app. Power on and off are almost immediate. Volume control from phone is flawless. I did connect and guitar and mic and works ok, I would probably not use this for a performance. Maybe just a small casual get together. The battery life boasts 20 hours on a full charge. A 30 minute charge will get you going for a little while. There is a battery life check button and 2 USB ports for charging other devices Again, This is a very powerful speaker and works great!

Massive Speaker with a Massive Sound
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Looking for an outdoor wireless speaker with solid battery life and excellent sound output look no further than the Sony XP700. With an IPX4 rating, the rain does not mean the party has to stop. With onboard ambient lighting to set the party lighting. It’s so massive it has 2 handles to give you a nice workout from carrying it around. With x2 X-Balanced speakers, x3 tweeters in the front, and x1 tweeter in the rear the SRS XP700 is able to provide a venue with filling sound. The rear tweeter allows it to provide an omnidirectional sound with a nice deep punchy bass provided by turning on Mega Bass. It’s a loud clear sound that goes well with every style of music you listen to. This type of sound is expected from an X-Series speaker, and Sony does not disappoint. There’s also a Live Sound option that is supposed to mimic an outdoor event. Overall, there’s plenty of options to adjust the sound to your liking. One of the extra features I like was being able to get 3hrs of playback with just 10mins of charging. Charging is done via a power cable. The good thing about this is no additional brick to carry around. I would have liked to have had the option to charge via USB C. Now, some of the I/O options you get are x2 USB A ports that can be used to charge your phone or plugged in a storage device like a USB memory stick to playback your music files. There’s also an aux input for wired connection for much better sound quality, and what’s a party without some Karaoke? Well the SRS XP700 has you covered with a mic input and guitar input. Whether you want to sing to your favorite song during playback or playback your guitar solo you can do both with the SRS XP700. There's also a knob for each one to adjust the sensitivity. Overall, Sony does a lot of good things with this speaker to justify the high price. It’s a solidly built speaker with IPX4 water resistance protection from spills and splashes from a light rainstorm. The sound quality is not only top-notch but can get very loud no matter where you sit. It does this while it still manages to provide a solid battery life. If you're someone that throws a lot of parties or just likes to be able to jam out loud to their favorite songs. Take a hard look at the SRS XP700. “Reviewers in this invitation-only program are provided products for the purpose of writing honest, unbiased reviews.

Amazing Sound. Very Versatile Compared To Others
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This speaker can be used for music from your phone, MP3 player, do karaoke with it or even use as a guitar amp!! You can even charge your phone with it! This speaker is a little over 2 feet high and about one foot in width and weighs in at around 37 pounds. It can be used either by plugging it in or charging it and taking it with you anywhere. It isn’t water proof, but is splash resistant. No big deal if you get caught in the rain. The control panel is on the top where you can turn it off/on, Bluetooth your device, turn the volume up and down, fast forward and turn the Mega Bass on/off. The back has a plug for your audio devices, a mic input (you can use for karaoke) with volume control, a guitar input with volume, two USB ports, and the power input. It also has three buttons for turning the light feature off/on, party connect (use this with other compatible Sony speakers) and a battery care button with a voice that tells you know how much battery life you have. You don’t have to look at a gauge to figure out much life is left in the battery. This is a multi-directional speaker. It doesn’t matter if you are in front of it or behind it, you will hear clear sounding music. I have had this speaker in the house with the windows open, the volume about half way and could hear it crystal clear about 20 feet from the house. If you turn on the Mega Bass, you can feel the walls of the house shake. I prefer the Mega Bass on and if in the house a bit lower volume. The sound is amazing. If you don’t like a lot of bass, just hit the button to turn it off. There are two ways to connect your phone or music device to this speaker. You can either Bluetooth it (need to be within 10 feet of it for this to work) or you can use an audio cable and plug it into the back. The battery life on this speaker lasts about 25 hours. if you do not use the light feature. With a quick charge you can get approximately 3 hours. I have other Sony compatible portable speakers and with the app you can synch them and have speakers spread throughout your house! The Fiestable app controls the party features. I downloaded this app to control them, but you must have the Sony app to be able to do this. There are so many things you can do with this speaker that you can’t do with other speakers. It would be nice if they designed wheels on the back to move the speaker around to make it more portable. It is big, but VERY sturdy. Once in place there won’t be any accidents knocking it over, unless you are a gorilla. It may seem a little pricey, but this speaker is well worth it.

Absolutely Stunning Performance, So Much Bass!

Even from the moment I hit the power button, and the warm, deep welcome tone sounded, I sensed this speaker was going to be good. Linking to my phone couldn't have been easier, press the bluetooth button on top for 5 or so seconds and then look for it in the bluetooth setting on your phone. Fired up a recent favorite of mine 'Hurt - by One Desire'. The bass was instantly punchy, you could feel it in your chest and your furniture! I was not expecting so much bass from a completely wireless bluetooth speaker. And it is constant bass, it doesn't fade as you turn it up. There appears to be some kind of witchcraft going on inside this speaker! The set up consists of front and rear tweeters for room filling, omnidirectional sound, and x-balanced main speaker units combined with Sony's infamous 'MEGA BASS™' system providing a pounding soundtrack. This speaker handles all genres of music thrown at it with ease. The x-balanced speakers are a unique Sony development that enable to keep the bass punch at higher volumes, without sacrificing clarity. I have a very open living room with 22ft ceilings, and this speaker absolutely fills the space with a hall like sound, at only half volume. And the beauty is, that being omnidirectional, the sound is everywhere, you can walk around the house and while you know where the speaker is, it is not 'obvious'. There is just sound in the room. The speaker does come with a power cord, so you can run it plugged in, but if you want to take it away from the electrical grid, the internal battery lasts for around 25 hours, without compromising the sound quality or that incredible bass. And if you need to 'top it off', a quick 10 minute charge gives you an additional 3 hours of playback time. Great charging technology included in this astounding speaker. There is a button in the center on the back that when pressed gives you a voice prompt of the battery life. Along the handle and the base are discrete LED lights that dance and flash along with the music, but they are also completely controllable using the Sony 'Fiestable' app which is a downloadable companion. Install the app and then you can go in and change all sorts of settings on the speaker for full LED control. You an also sync to your phone to use it as an additional light source. You can turn the LEDs off with a button on the back, or using the app. And talking of apps, download the Sony Music Center app for complete control of the speaker. You can adjust many settings from the app, including the MEGABASS, Live and Custom equalizer to tune the speaker to your liking control over Bass, Mids and Treble exactly as you want it. You can also see a complete and accurate battery life indicator here. On the back under the IPX4 rated cover, there are controls for gain and volume to use this speaker as a karaoke speaker or as a guitar amp, to make this speaker a complete all rounder. Imagine that - hook up your guitar and just take it wherever you want for a full days worth of sound. There are two USB ports under that cover as well, so you can bring your own flash drive with music on it, OR you can create a wired connection to your phone, which not only gives you audio clarity, but also charges your phone from the internal battery. This speaker is so versatile! On the top are some simple buttons to play/pause, connect to bluetooth, turn on/ff and control the MEGABASS. These are rubberized to maintain its water resistance. This speaker is NOT waterproof, but water resistant so it can be used near a pool without fear of it being splashed, or having drinks spilled on it. But it cannot be submersed in a pool for example. And also on top is a long slot, which is designed as an iPad/iPhone stand for when you want to have full control using the apps, or if you want to use the speaker in Karaoke mode. A useful addition to the top of the speaker. Inside the speaker is a motion sensor, and it has rubber feet on the base, but also along one side. When you change the orientation of the speaker, the speaker adapts and switches the orientation of the tweeter output to maintain it's phenomenal sound. There is a slight pause in the music as the sensor adjusts (half a second) so that you know the sound orientation has changed. You can pair this speaker to another one, and assign it a left and right channel, to give full stereo sound, OR just use them both as a 'party chain' to fill an even larger space with sound and light. As far as portability, yes, it is completely wireless, but with it's internal battery and unique speakers system, this speaker is not light at a little over 37lbs including the battery. You will be using both carry handles as you move it around. But all in all, I think that is a small price to pay for the incredible sound and stamina that this speaker has. The Summary: This is absolutely, the BEST wireless, bluetooth, portable speaker I have ever used. I've been blown away by it from day one, the sound is incredible, clear, strong and very bass heavy, which I personally love, it's so versatile and acts as a 'complete system'. Highly recommended!

STRONG, balanced pleasing sound
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Sony SRS-XP500 Portable Wireless Speaker Delivers BIG, POWERFUL, Pleasing Backyard-filling Sound. Available now at Best Buy for $450, this 25-pound behemoth really delivers the goods whether standing up on its rubberized feet or on its side on a quad of bumpers! With up to 20 hours of battery life per charge, it is well-balanced with just the right amount of strong bass, without overpowering the listener with too much boom, boom, boom. It can also operate while plugged in to wall power. Sony developed its mid-range speaker to provide clear vocals and a front tweeter for the highs. Add to this an X-Balanced speaker for the sweet sound of “MEGA BASS”. Tested with music that included classical, classic rock, jazz, acid rock and hip-hop, each of my listeners commented on the clean, crisp and altogether pleasing sound. They were also pleased with the power behind the sound. That’s high praise for such an imposing portable speaker. We all expected less! The speaker design and technology provide an effective surround sound sensation. At first look, we expected the indirect LED illumination and light shows available through the downloadable and Fiestable app to be gimmicky. We were pleasantly surprised. Choose from static colors or go DJ-style and manipulate the “record,” spinning through an endless color variety. This is fun! The Sony Music Center app allows numerous music sources to be controlled through the app. We tested Spotify and Apple Music. Launching Music Center and choosing Apple Music linked the library on my iPhone. Selection was as if within the Music app. The benefit is that there is no need to have both apps open. With the app’s Party Connect, up to 100 compatible speakers can join together. Now, that’s a party! Digging into Music Center I found another nice feature. The SRS-XP500 can be turned off through the app, so when it’s time to call it a day, or night, simply touch and it’s powered off. No worries about splashes or spills because this speaker carries an IPX4 rating. It will do just fine by the pool or next to your drinks. A top and bottom built-in handle makes moving it about as easy as picking up a 25-pound box with handles. Controls on the top of the speaker are the power button with a charge indicator, a Bluetooth button, standard Play/Pause button, “-“ with “+” button for volume control as well as a MEGA BASS button that toggles between high bass and a more subdued bass response. Ports under a protective rubber rear panel cover include a plug for the power cord, a pair of USB ports, both of which may be used for playing music files from a flash drive/stick. Alternatively, one port is designated as also acting as a charge port for, as an example, a mobile phone. In addition, there are two ¼-inch jacks. Plug in a mic or two, or one mic and a guitar, using the SRS-XP500 as the amp. Each control has its own volume control, and there is a master on/off button for these two jacks. Finally, there is a 3.5mm jack for direct connection to a computer or phone that still has one of these. Then, the speaker can use this alternate music source without the need for Bluetooth. A master Light power button, Party Connect button and Battery Care button can be found on the rear of the speaker above the rubber cover. The Battery Care button stops charging just shy of the battery reaching 100%. This is the same feature most computers and mobile phones offer in order to extend the life of the battery. I was not able to determine if the battery is user-replaceable or even replaceable at all, though the battery technology suggests at least a five year life span with regular use, and more with infrequent use. There was no information found as to whether the Bluetooth technology is 4 or 5, nor is the power rating in Watts shown anywhere I could find. I was also not able to find the battery capacity, though it is specified to power the speaker for up to 20 hours. The USB Charge port can also put a quick charge yielding up to 80 minutes of playback after only 10 minutes of charge time when using a USB-C fast charger or a USB-C power bank. **WHAT’S IN THE BOX** • Sony SRS-XP500 • Power cord • Quick setup guide and warranty **THE SETUP** As instructions indicate, first to charge the speaker, and next to connect with a phone via standard Bluetooth protocols. Then, start enjoying this powerful portable speaker. **PUT TO THE TEST** It works superbly! It is so good that users may easily consider using it while powered by a wall plug inside the home for everyday use. It would be a shame to relegate it to only occasional use when friends and family visit while partying or picnicking outdoors. There is nothing more to add. **CONCLUSION** If you are looking for a premium, feature-rich portable speaker with Bluetooth and hard-wired connectivity, with bonus guitar and microphone inputs and cool LED illumination, you can do no wrong choosing this Sony XRS-XP500. **WARRANTY** SRS-XP500 comes with Sony’s standard one year warranty.

Portable powerhouse
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Sony delivers a portable speaker that can rock the house or the party! Though the speaker is big, you can easily move it with the built in grab handles on the top and bottom. The speaker isn’t light, but it’s still easy to manage for one person. At the same time the weight gives it a feeling of being very well made. The speaker has two USB ports and allows you to charge a device or play digital files stored on a flash drive. It also features two mic ports that allow you to plug a mic or a guitar. Audio wise the XP500 delivered no matter what genre I played. On the bass front it sounds clean and surprisingly strong. It’s not knock stuff off the shelves bass, but it will make some stuff rattle. The mids and the highs were clean also and were never overpowered by the bass. The app gives you the ability to create a custom EQ if you don’t like the default settings. You can also control the lights with the app and turn them off completely if you don’t want them on. The XP500 can be your Bluetooth speaker and your karaoke machine as the night progresses! Battery powered or plugged in, this speaker gives you alot of versatility and mega sound for the price.
