Expensive garbage

I've tried it with everything and it's just big and gets in the way. I missed the return window because it was a Christmas present and I bought it way in advance, so now I'm stuck with something that just wastes electricity.

Please note that a decrease in volume can occur automatically to protect the internal components; this is a protective feature and not a malfunction. This typically happens in the following cases:
Low Battery: The built-in battery is running low and the CHARGE indicator is flashing slowly.
High Temperature: The ambient temperature of the speaker has reached a high level.
To restore the volume level, please turn off the speaker and allow the built-in battery to charge sufficiently.

More than just a party speaker...

The Sony SRS-XV500 can be used in so many ways — I know the main push from Sony is that this is a party speaker…and it is. But that’s not what impresses me so much about this setup. For me, it’s the portability of a well-built unit that provides exceptional sound when using it as an outdoor p/a system — for mic and guitar. With the added benefit of having a rechargeable lithium-ion battery that boasts a 25 hour capacity, the XV500 fits the bill. This will work perfectly for our upcoming outdoor Easter sunrise service. It also has an IPX4 rating, so it can withstand a little moisture — just no downpours. Personally, if it starts to rain, I’m grabbing this and heading indoors. Just a head’s up that the inputs are both 1/4 inch. The only additional item I had to invest in (for my mic) was a female XLR to 1/4 inch cable. If you already have a karaoke mic, you’re probably set, as I’m pretty sure those tend to have a 1/4 inch instrument-style plug standard. The Bluetooth connection was effortless with my android phone. With my phone connected, my son did the same. We were both able to stream tunes, just not at the same time. Whoever hit ‘play’ last was in control. Not sure that this would benefit anyone, but there you go. Sound reproduction is very good no matter the style of music. There is a good sturdy handle to lug this speaker around with. It comes in at just under 25 lbs., so you’re not going to take it on any long hikes…at least I’m not. For party time, you can engage the lighting system (or not) and control sound reproduction with a 3-channel EQ through Sony’s Music Center app. If you have additional Sony wireless speakers, you can also pair them with the XV500. The app literally controls everything except for powering the speaker on. That you have to do with a gentle touch of the power button on top. Again — quality, sturdy build, excellent battery life, one unit for mic and guitar, portability — perfect. Good job, Sony. This one’s a keeper.

We're sorry to hear that the XV500 X-Series wasn't delivering the volume you expected for your outdoor gatherings, as sound dispersion outside can definitely make speakers sound quieter. To maximize the loudness for open spaces, please ensure the speaker is plugged into an AC outlet, as running on battery can sometimes limit the maximum power output. Also, make sure the MEGA BASS function is active, and try using the 'LIVE SOUND' effect, which is designed to expand the sound stage. If you still feel the output is too low, using the Party Connect feature to link it with another compatible Sony speaker can provide a significant boost in volume.

I think the main difference is the size, max volume, and the lighting effects. And this speaker delivers on all three. It is big and heavy which is good for a party speaker that will be on the floor where the party is happening. I am still able to comfortably carry it with one hand using the handle, so moving it isn't an issue. The max volume is loud - but there is still very little distortion when the volume gets high. I plan on using this outdoor mainly so the loud volume will be great to fill a big open space like that. The IPX4 water resistance rating will make sure that it'll survive close proximity to the pool which is great peace of mind too! The lighting effects are quite good with a lot of options built into the app/speaker for whatever mood you're going for - from rave to chill to no lighting at all. Since I will be using this mostly outdoors in the daytime, the light effects aren't as important to me, but when the parties go into the evening, I'm sure they'll be nice to have. The rated battery life of 25 hours is also quite good - more than enough to make it through any party, The speaker also has a battery care feature that will only charge the battery to 90% to help maintain the long term battery capacity. Overall sound quality is very good, even at high volumes and built in Mega Bass effect is not overpowering, but just right. I haven To sum it up, this is a great party speaker with great features even if you don't need the kareoke options.

To much bass runing the music

The biggest reason was that it was too heavy on the bass, even on the efficiency setting. That made the music sound not as great for both, me and my wife.
