Oh this movie is so ethereal! Amazing soundtrack from the other world and overall the story is touching and great representation of black diversity. I didn’t mind it being on Disney +. I wanted a physical version of the movie in the unique Steelbook edition! Excellent collectible!

A great film with magnificent animation and soundtrack, which is more inclined to the adult message since the best advice it can give is that you never stop loving what you do and live life to the fullest

Good movie! Disney always produces good movies, and this one is no exception. Their animated films, like this one, always look stunning in 4K.

Joe Gardner, who is stuck in a mediocre job, is a middle school teacher with a love for jazz music. After a successful gig at the Half Note Club, he suddenly gets into an accident that separates his soul from his body and is transported to the You Seminar, a center in which souls develop and gain passions before being transported to a newborn child. Joe must enlist help from the other souls-in-training, like 22, a soul who has spent eons in the You Seminar, in order to get back to Earth in time for his gig, while trying to find their spark.

I saw the movie on Disney+ and had to have the 4K BR disc for my collection. This is a great movie with a great story line, Once, my sister came to my house and asked me if my 8 year old great niece left her movie. I said no, it's my movie. She looked at me like I was crazy. LOL !! Guess she does not think a 61 year old can like a movie like Soul

Pixsars take on the great beyond and before is very comforting. 4k makes everything look as real as it can be.

Great Movie but Why Feature Reznor/Ross in Score?

Being a fan of jazz music, a New Yorker by birth, a cat person, and a parent of a kid who loves cats and Pixar movies, Soul appeared to be the perfect confluence of subjects. We were very excited for its release and we were not disappointed. Soul takes the viewer on a trip through the physical and the metaphysical, from the IRT under New York up to the great beyond in the cosmos. Themes of life's purpose and meaning are handled both delicately and with humor. The film is indeed an exploration of Soul. The voice acting and animation were top notch as one might expect in a Pixar film. My one complaint, as a jazz fan who feels strongly that "American classical music" is underappreciated by the public, is that Soul missed an opportunity to make jazz a more unified part of the film. I won't deduct a point for this, but jazz is extremely diverse and the filmmakers featured non-jazz atmospheric music for much of the soundtrack. I believe they should have selected from the array of atmospheric jazz that would have provided a more authentic feel rather than resort to Reznor and Ross (who I always considered relatively "soul-less" even though they do make some important music for movies such as The Social Network. Even some of the main character's playing shied away from real jazz to favor more atmospheric triplets with muted variation or texture. I understood this was to make the sounds more harmonically palatable to an audience that may not appreciate jazz, but it felt like a let-down and opportunity missed to me. Still, there were plenty of uptempo jazz tunes as well as ballads to enjoy. So I can't complain too much.

An original and insightful look into the afterlife (and origin) without mixing religion or any particular theology. It's a wholesome and welcome story about life, about what makes us who we are and how even the most mundane of moments can inspire if you open your eyes. As always Pixar does a stellar job, balancing story, humor, and heart into one beautiful symphony. And having said that, I cannot skip mentioning the music. As a musician myself (and a New Orleans native/jazz lover), the soundtrack is just amazing. The notes hit the emotional points so well, highlighting moments in subtle keys. While it's technically classified as a children's movie, adults should not overlook it. It takes on a rather heavy subject of life and death, giving a measured insight and providing an ending that isn't the princess/sunshine/rainbows fairy tale that so many animated stories do, instead showing that those little moments can mean just as much. I feel given the subject and story that this is aimed for more matured youth, above the princess and castles to the younger of younger adult (as well as actual adults). Overall, I loved this film. Beautifully rendered, beautifully composed, beautifully executed, and a beautiful message. Well done.

Pixar keeps mixing it up, presenting very mature and abstract concepts and ideas and presenting it in a well made presentation. Inside Out comes to mind as well. Soul really is a good film, but the film gets very dark in some of the areas due to the storyline, with the main character literally hovering between life and death in a struggle to simply live now that that major turn has happened. The jokes and light nature of some elements will keep the kids entertained, while the entire movie will appeal to the parents. If you're watching with little kids, expect to have some conversations. This movie is well worth a second and third watching as it packs a LOT, too much to properly digest in one go.

First impressions of this movie were very negative but then I watched it a second time and was completely blown away...what had I missed the first time? The story of a man looking for fame and losing his life, then helping a lost soul find theirs' is a powerful statement. How many times have we missed the opportunity to help someone find themselves because we are so self-centered? As a parent there is was a clear message. There may be some things that you question from a spiritual perspective and have to explain to your child but don't let that cause you to miss the message...some of us are looking for the Ocean! When you see the movie you will understand!
