Great for those in need of a P.O.S. solution
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Square has come a long way since they offered their first card reader, and this Point of Sale stand is a great example of how much they have moved forward. Everything from the packaging/unboxing to the product itself is done well. The stand itself is well-built, with a nice weight, focused on the bottom to give it some stability. Further, the base has a grippy bottom to help it remain in place. If that does not work for you, there is a drill mount that will allow for a more permanent solution. In either configuration, I think it would be solid and stable. The “dock” area for the iPad is more of the same. Once in, I have no concern about the iPad, there is a security latch to lock it in. Lastly, the stand swivels, very smoothly, so both employee and/or customer use can be done easily. As for looks, I think this easily can fit into any location. It is rather sleek and modern looking, and frankly, these are pretty much ubiquitous and the standard more and more these days. Honestly, I am most impressed that this is such a complete and simple solution. Yes, clearly you need to bring the iPad to the table, but with the provided power and dock, the power for the iPad is taken care of, and with the dock you can add any other accessories you may want. They are not needed, but if your situation calls for a barcode scanner, receipt printer, drawer…etc, they can easily be added. Further, the ease of use for the customer in addition to the options the customer has available to them are fantastic. Tap to pay, via card or phone, and chip payment are intuitive and easy to spot given the alert lights and even card swipes can be done via a plug-in reader on the bottom. All in all, I think this is a great stand. I know this is not a review of the Square software, but it goes hand in hand with what this stand offers, and I think the combination of the two makes this a device that would work rather well for most people. My only caveat with this stand is you need to supply the iPad. I do not really see this as a big issue, as it does give you a little flexibility, as the iPad can be used for other needs when not in use in the stand. You just have to be extremely careful to make sure you have the right model. There are several that can be used, so there is some flexibility there; but, also be aware if you are thinking VERY long term Apple seems to be moving the iPad line to USB-C (finally) so compatibility may be an issue down the road. In the end, if you are looking for a mostly simple, mostly all-in-one solution, I think this stand is a great choice. Everything is provided (even some nice stickers to advertise what you accept), it is easy to set up, is well-built, looks great, is easy to use for both employee and customer, and…it just works.

Square is No Longer a Good Company
||Posted . Owned for 3 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have purchased 2 of these and both have had major issues within months. Square is no longer a reliable company. I wish I could switch to a different system, but I am too deep in. I suggest finding another company to run your business.

A must for a small business!
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The Square Stand is an essential tool to have for any small business. It has really helped to expand my business and facilitates card transactions and financing. As the owner of a small notary business, I was looking for a more convenient way of accepting card transactions. Not only does the Square Stand fulfill these needs, but it has made it so much easier to keep track of finances and can even include taxes for other transactions. The setup is very easy, and with the app, you have so much customization and creativity right at your fingertips. It is so much easier to sign for transactions, which is a pain to do in a small screen and having to hold the phone to the customer. As for the looks, it really puts a touch of class to my business and makes it look all fancy and stuff. It's easy to clean, and can be placed just about anywhere. For other forms of business, this can be an extremely helpful tool for keeping track of inventory, taxes, creating a creative menu, and so much more. I would definitely recommend the Square Stand to anyone!

The standard for small business kiosks
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is now the standard in small business point of sale kiosks IMO - provided you have made the significant investment in the appropriate iPad to power it. As a small business owner, I wish that the stand did not require an iPad to work. I feel that a model with a built-in screen would be a great option for someone that either can't afford to pony up for the dedicated iPad or is like me and doesn't want their tablet being used as a Point of Sale client when it could be serving me in so many better ways. I've always thought that using an iPad for such a mundane task is a waste of the tablets power. The setup is, like my other square devices and readers, super simple. I was up and running in ten minutes or so. The build quality is something that should last for a very long time and take a lot of abuse. It's heavy enough to not move when your customer swipes their card and it swivels around for your customers' interaction and privacy. Tap to pay and contactless pay via wearables is also supported. Highly recommended for any small business.

So far so great!
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. There's a lot to say about this stand, but also so very little to say. Simply put, it's needed in my opinion. This is something that should be a requirement when using with Square. It's just so perfectly convenient for its usage. The stand itself is sturdy and nice. Sure you have to plug it in to stay on with no issues, but that's to be expected I would think. The swiveling is always a nice touch that I found is great for customers as a customer myself amongst many stores with similar stands in their stores. Connecting everything is seamless out of the box. Didn't even have to read instructions; was just common sense to me. iPad fit perfectly as expected, set up was a breeze, no issues whatsoever. I believe this should be a requirement for every Square user as it's beneficial to the store and also a great convenience to the customer to have a nice system on a nice stand that's easy to view and navigate. So far nothing wrong has happened with it and it works smoothly. I have no qualms whatsoever.

Makes life easier at work!
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. For the past two years I’ve used the Square reader with my phone for contactless and chip card payments, which has worked well but has had increasing connectivity issues when I try to use it. After discovering this new second generation Square point of sale it made my transactions, itemizing services and all around ease of use so much better. I already own a compatible iPad so it was an easy decision to get the new Square point of sale to use with my iPad to make things even easier when checking out customers. I am an Apple fan so I use my phone at work to stream music, process transactions, take phone calls and view any other content for which I receive a notification. The bad part of using your phone for everything is that when I use it for checkout, it takes over and pauses my music, which I don't like. Now, while keeping my iPad docked in its new Square point of sale, which also keeps it charged, I can easily take transactions without music interruption. The dock gives you the option to use the ‘tap’ feature and chip reader to run cards very quickly. After running a card the rubberized base allows the point of sale to spin around facing the client for adding gratuity and selecting the option of how they would like their receipt. The unit comes with a power cable that connects to a smaller black box which allows you to add other Square peripherals such as a receipt printer or a bar code scanner. All in all this awesome new device has made my life easier at work and I would highly recommend it to any business owner who, like me, needs to juggle one less thing on their phone at work.

Square Point Of Sale Stand for the iPad
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. My business goes from one location to another each weekend. I was using the plug-in card slide device. The upgrade to the Square Point Of Sale Stand has enhanced the image of the business. The device is set up on a table I enter the information on one side and rotate the device so the customer can enter their card in the slot and follow the on-screen prompts. This has been going so well that I am getting ready to order the receipt printer. Installation was a breeze, there was a slight learning curve. The device needs constant power, so I use an inverter and two twelve-volt batteries. The unit comes on a 180-degree swivel base that clicks at both stops. The is also an attachment in the box to fasten the base to the counter. The paperwork states that 7 hours is needed for the initial charge before use. The card reader accepts chips, slide and no touch. This will ease the customers mind about use. While I currently do not have a receipt printer the device does allow for e-mail of receipt. I you are a small business owner I suggest you take a good look at this device.

Square stepped it up!
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. Are you a small business owner looking to step up your payment options? The Square Point of Sale stand takes payment options up a notch! The package it comes in is very sturdy and well packaged. I pulled it out and was pleased at it solid build. Taking my IPad and sliding it in was so simple! Once connected I was able to set up my “shop items” and add everything needed for a check out scenario. Once done it’s looked exactly like one of those very expensive dedicated Point of sale systems in high end stores. Once it was all up I had it placed and was able to accept all forms of payment! Tap, Chip and tip all while seeing their order breakdown in vibrant detail. From a user experience- I loved being able to edit items and update pricing when needed. Adding in specials and having it able to be corrected on the go with no super complicated changes needed! This stands was super nice because once I entered the info I just swiveled it around and customer did their checkout and then swiveled it back! The seamless checkout process made my customers happier and the business transaction very professional!

Great for Small Businesses
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The Square Stand for iPad (2nd Gen) is a must if you are a small business owner in need of a point of sales system. If you are an owner of a small business and looking for a more convenient way of accepting card transactions from your clients, then look no further. The Square Stand surpasses the bare minimums, but it also has other features that make it easier to keep track of the finances, including taxes, and fees. The setup is simple, especially with the app. It makes it so easy to do the transactions, with a larger screen to sign. You can have them used their finger or s stylus (sold separately). The stand looks great, and would make any small business appear more official. Maintenance is easy, and it is very mobile. It can be setup anywhere. If you have a food business, you can create a menu and add pictures, pricing, etc.. There is so much functionality with the Square Stand. The possibilities are endless. I would definitely recommend the Square Stand to anyone looking to add more revenue to your business, or someone just starting a business wanting to do it the right way.

Good but check compatibility & longevity
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. My review today is going to be specifically focused on the hardware, and not the Square Software and Services; those are independent in my opinion, with the exception of one item which I will note below. If you are have a consistent need for a P.O.S. or want to up your portable business appearance, then consider this P.O.S.. It gives a much better presentation to your customers, then small touch pad or the phone jack slide, it is also more reliable then the bluetooth (despite that being pretty reliable, this is still better). So let's start with a key warning/call out: MAKE SURE YOU HAVE THE CORRECT iPAD. When I first got this, my name, I thought I had a compatible iPad. I didn't. I have the last generation iPad that was at 9.7". My larger 10.3" iPad, is the newest model, that is on USB-C. So check the compatibility list: https://squareup.com/help/us/en/article/6165-how-to-identify-your-ipad-model Don't go by name, go by model number. This will still work software/hardware wise with a lightning port edition of the iPad. I just 3D printed a small adapter so I can use this for now, till I upgrade the iPad. So This goes right to my first .25 star off: Being a fully molded encasing for the iPad, this runs the risk of not be compatible with future hardware. Apple does not support models for ever, some of the oldest models in the compatibility list, are on their last year of software updates. if Apple chooses to change the size of the next round of iPads, even slightly, that is going to cause an issue if you have an iPad damaged, or it just goes out. My next .25 star off: I would have hoped that the connector on the device, would have been interchangeable with lightning and USB-C. With the latest EU rolling, it is very likely that lightning ports will be going away permanently. Apple with their newest iPads, have gone to the USB-C connector. Looking at this, I feel it could have been pretty straightforward, to design this to allow that port to be swappable between USB-C and lighting. It is not, so absolutely make sure your iPad is lightning port, and on the compatibility list. I would recommend that if you are using this as your primary P.O.S., you have at least a 2nd iPad ready to go, and maintained, just incase something happens. My last .5 star off, I will mention below. now for the good stuff: - outstanding appearance, looks crisp and a great presentation for your business. - The rotating base give a lot of freedom, to spin and turn the display. This even allows you to turn the screen to allow the customer to need let go of there own payment type. The can slip in the chip card, or tap (with card, phone or watch), very easy. - While I haven't done it, since I am a mobile vendor/shows, the mounting option for the base is pretty straight forward, with minimal fuss and destruction to a counter. Feel confident that this won't just walk away. The power adapter, and the connection is USB-C based, and of higher quality. A good long cord off the power brick, will allow just about any installation to go without problems. Hide the adapter under the counter, and either through a standard grommet or a tiny hole in the counter top and the power can come right into the base. To take your P.O.S. to the next game, this comes with the required hub so you can add popular accessories: printer, bar code, drawer. I don't have any of those at this time, so I could't test them directly, but when ever I am at other retailers they seem to work flawlessly. A big tap area and well marked, your customers will know exactly where to tap. and I love this. contact-cashless payments are the way of the future, and seeing right at the top is great. Large CC-chip insert, will allow ease for the customer to charge via chip. Both worked perfectly with my testing, and initial sales with it. Now for my last .5 star deduction... Unless I am totally missing it, I can't see how to use a swipe with this hardware. I know it is a thing that is phasing out, but it is still very much an option for some. I just personally received Visa Gift Cards from a rebate, and no chip, no tap, just swipe. While I can key in the number via software, we pay a higher percentage on that. So that is a factor to consider, if you think you are going to get a high number of swipes. So overall, a great a slick piece of hardware to create a modern P.O.S. for the small business.

Plug-and-Go or Mountable Solution w/ Expandability
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. As a small business owner I really appreciate when good sales hardware comes along aimed at the entrepreneur/solopreneur market. Square has been my modality of choice for things like farmers markets or booths at comic con or mobile events. This particular setup requires a dedicated power source and a bit of room. The power attachment is USB-C into the base but there’s an adapter in between it and the socket. You gain a fair amount of cord with the included USB-A accessories dongle (has 3 ports), but that also means your accessories are 3’ away from the base of the stand (OK if your attachments also have long cords). There are a number of compatible accessories from Square (USB) including receipt printers and bar code scanners… so you could create quite the little setup on-site and be the most professional vendor at the fair with a pivoting stand that accepts tap and dip (not swipe - so for those customers who absolutely, positively refuse to update their cards, you have to manually enter these or have a backup ready). All told, this is a more affordable way to get your permanent physical shop up and running with a minimum of fuss, just bring your own iPad (as long as it uses the lightning adapter for power - USB-C/iPad Pro folks can’t plug and play). The big asterisk here is that you MUST have one of the compatible iPads on the list… and they did a decent job of making the stand adaptable enough for those different iPads. BUT there is a noticeable gap between the edge of the iPad and the edge of the stand in many cases, enough that it makes me nervous. I wish they’d have included some bracing or an insert or something to keep the iPad from having the appearance that it’s easily removed. The iPad isn’t tethered down by anything except the lightning port attaching it to power and the fit isn’t particularly snug on many models of iPad. You (or your customer/their errant kiddo) could - in theory - accidentally knock the iPad free of the stand; this is unlikely but why invite the risk? In my experience testing in a comic convention-style setup, I found that where I placed the stand mattered - as customers can accidentally trigger the “eject iPad” switch while turning it and kids are magnetically drawn to it. As a result, the direction you swivel the stand is super important. While you CAN mount it permanently to the counter, this wouldn’t be my first choice for a permanent installation because of the gap/eject thing (although I’m sure it COULD look really slick if you bought the right iPad…). For what it’s worth: the iPad fit is the ONLY reason this setup gets 3-stars. Everything else is right on par for a 4-star setup. Why 4 and not 5? The stand is heavy enough that it’s unlikely to go anywhere without the included permanent mounting hardware, but here’s the trick: cord management is EVERYTHING to a small shop. It’s make-or-break because eventually from daily use something will get jiggled just enough or snagged on a shoe or caught on a box and suddenly your receipt printer isn’t working, and your slick sales system isn’t so slick. Square should know this and include temporary mounting adhesives along with the mounting hardware and hook-and-loop for cord management. The stand’s software adaptations and lighting are really slick and guide customers through each step in the process - that part is as effortless as Square usually makes it with some really nice visuals by way of lights on the tap and dip areas to let folks know you’re ready (this is a common problem for many customers - identifying when to tap/dip). Square’s typical “make it fast and make it simple” mentality when it comes to easy-to-use setups is on full display here. I just wish they’d spent a few more minutes on figuring out how the various models of iPads into the device could at least look more “secure” - and adding some reusable temporary mounting hardware (as this seems to be the most likely place this would be put into play where you’d want a less-expensive sales stand setup - food trucks, convention vendors, and farmers markets where power hookups exist).
