I was 14 years old when the original series came out in the fall of "66 . I"ve seen every episode at least a few dozen times ,so I am familiar with the direction the series took. I saw every Star Trek movie and this , by far , is the absolute best . The acting is spot on and a tribute to the original charactors . Great story line . The timeline in the past was altered , so this new series is taken on a whole new direction . Leonard Nimoy reprises his role as Spok . I will say no more least I give away the main plot . A MUST OWN !!!!! I smell a sequel . Everyone better "buckle UP!! "

This movie is not some desperate attempt to give old Star Trek fans something to spend their money on it was a superb effort at taking Gene Roddenberry's brainchild and making a movie that credits and honors the original series and actors. This will attract a whole new generation (sorry I couldn't help myself) of Trek fans. The casting was excellent, the acting was entertaining and not over the top. The story, even though it involved time travel which has been used before in other Trek movies, offered a new twist that added to the power of the story. This is the kind of movie you will want to see several times and still enjoy. Wow if you can't have fun with movie then you need to get a life!

If you’re a fan of Star Trek and have not seen this then you need to have your head examined. For those who are not big sci-fi fans or specifically Star Trek fans this film will still entertain you. The characters I’ve grown up to love have been re-energized and put back on the big screen with a great deal of respect for the original series/movies. Those who don’t know them from Adam I believe will get a great snap shot of things to come. Many of the things we learn about each character were originally revealed over many shows and movies. This could have been a flow and story killer but IMHO works just fine. I can’t wait to see the sequel.

I really enjoyed the film, I think it captured the adventure and fun of the original series while updating the look and pacing for the next generation. The casting on this movie was pitch perfect - everyone really inhabited their characters, establishing the core elements without resorting to mimickry. It is a fun ride. The visual quality "blu" me away! This is the best looking thing I have ever seen on my TV - absolutely stellar.

This movie is a great re-imagining of the original series. The prospect of time travel in a plot has been used and overused throughout all of science fiction, especially in the various Star Trek series, however it was necessary to create an original plot line away from the original series. The constant action from the first keeps you on the edge of your seat throughout and the limited use of "Trek" jargon helps to draw an audience in who hasn't have the background of any of the TV series or previous movies. This movie stands on it's own as an original movie.

JJ Abrams does a great job of bringing Star Trek back from the dead. After the last 10 years of watering the Star Trek universe paramount put it in the hands of a very capable director. The movie has the action and humor that brings you back to the original series without taking itself to serious. Are there holes in the plot? Yes but you don't really think about it until after the movie is over. Does it drag trying to set you up for the next movie. No it does not so the plot holes can be forgiven. It is a must buy for all movie fans.

For the person who said the aspect ratio was a negative must not watch many widescreen movies. The aspect ratio for widescreen movies is supposed to leave the black bars on the top and bottom of the picture. Zooming only makes it worse because you lose some of the picture. If your tv is big enough then the widescreen aspect ratio is perfect. The blu ray quality only makes this movie better. The explosions and sucj sound awesome on my 7.1 system. Overall great movie in theaters and the bluray is like taking the theater home.

Honestly, I've never seen the Star Trek television series, and whenever my stepdad told me to watch it because I'd love it, I never believed him. I had the same reaction to this movie when it came out, but I finally watched it at a friend's house and fell totally in love. I know it's not the same as the TV show, but the cast is amazing, the score is phenomenal, and the movie is just overall great fun. That is, if you don't mind the incessant lens flares.

Thus far, this is the greatest sci-fi film of the 21st century. The seamless quality of SFX, use of a youthful pool of acting talent, and an excellent story line make for a cinematic experience that has shattered any sci-fi release in the past decade (perhaps the last two decades). I know that there are a lot of dissenting Trek purists out there, but not a single one can doubt the production quality and wide amount of appeal that surrounds this film. I will look forward to more Trek films by J.J. Abrams.

Loved it, got it for my boyfriend as a Christmas gift. Watched it, first Blu-Ray DVD we've ever had, we were very impressed. The Story line is great, they took what they knew of the original Star Trek, and added they're own style as well as Story to it. Made it they're own. I would not say that this was just another remake. I would recommend this to anyone who loves the original Star Trek, but keep in mind, it's got it's own story. But over-all great story. Live Long and Prosper.

This was not the most popular direction for Star Trek diehards fans but I think it was a necessary step. The makers of the film do give original Star Trek actor Leonard Nimoy, an essential part to tie into the original incarnation of Star Trek. There is great action and those that have never followed Star Trek will not be lost. I for one thoroughly enjoyed the film and look forward to more offerings from the cast and crew of this movie.

My family and I saw this movie on opening night. This new batch of actors really caught the spirit and fire of the original characters. If you don't know anything about Star Trek (the original series), that's okay. This movie will still be awesome! If you do know ST:TOS, then you'll really appreciate the inside jokes and humor. Now that the timeline has changed, all of us are in the dark about these characters' futures. Sequel, anyone?

This movie is awsome! Best Star Trek movie yet. It takes the series in a whole new direction. The new cast could not be more perfect. Lots of action in a series that had gotten horrible after First Contact. It actually feels like a full feature movie rather than a glorified tv movie. I will not give anymore details. Watch it for your self.

Unbelievably good job of casting new faces to old characters, and a plot that returns an old face to connect the dots with the new. A bold beginning that offers a balance of up-tempo plot without a loss of character development, so good it will leave you eagerly anticipating Abrams next foray with this cast and crew. Definitely left the pace of the 1st Star Trek film in the dust with the opening sequence.

This movie is by far one of my favorites of this year, which is saying a lot given that so many great movies have come out. Its got endless appeal from the acting, to the fascinating plot, and to all those little laugh out loud scenes right when you need them. There is very little I didn't like about this movie, and my favorite part by far is the bloopers, its always nice to see actors as humans rather than gods.

When i first heard about this movie i was like lame another star trek movie. never have i gotten into these movies or show but i liked the actors who were gonna play in this so i checked it out. AWESOME!!! never would i have thought for this to be good! I LOVED IT!! this was the first blu ray movie i got. what a great choice. comes with a ton of special features and a digital copy. i dig it! go get it!

I loved this movie. bought it for 16.99 yesterday and loved every minute of it. the picture quality is great and im sure makes it a better experience than watching it on the big screen. i have never watched star trek so i don't much about the characters, but this movie explained everyones position pretty well without exaggerating stuff. Tons of bonus features and most importantly....a digital copy!!!

As a long-time Star Trek fan that loves TOS, I still like this update. Star Trek lost its "teeth" quite awhile ago so this was a welcome change. There's a lot of love in it despite looking so different. Most of the casting is spot-on, although the villain's character could use some work. Some great extras and good commentaries. That intro involving Kirk gets me every time.

If you are at all a fan of original Star Trek, you will love this story line of "how it all began," plus bonus of final appearance of Leonard Nimoy in his defining role of Spock. Perfect casting. Great action. One can easily envision each cast member as younger version of their respective older (1960s) character. Highly enjoyable movie experience. Can't wait for sequel in 2013.
