Star Trek Beyond (Back Fast and Furious!)

I enjoyed this third Star Trek movie in the franchise since so much of the action is back. (Fast and Furious!) In my opinion the original Star Trek TOS formula was to keep you in suspense and this movie has all of the elements which made the TV series fun to watch. So, if you are a Star Trek fan and enjoy action this will not let you down. Even if you have already seen it in the Theatre its great to see again at home.

Fine addition to the Star Trek franchise

Good movie for trek fans. Somewhat lacking though in that it takes place almost exclusively planetside (or planet-like environments) instead of in space. Gives the minor characters more lines and action in this film, being less focused on just Kirk, Spock, and McCoy. Unlike the earlier two films in the reboot timeline and disregarding the Enterprise and her crew, this one has no correlation to events or characters from the classic timeline, which I found disappointing of the story. But for the casual fan not looking for tie-ins, it's good.

    The Best New Trek

Star Trek : Beyond is the best new Trek to date. I wasn't a big fan of Into Darkness, and Star Trek (2009) was great, but for so many reasons Beyond is better. It's more like older Trek - even going son far as to include more of the famous "treknobabble" fans are familiar with. The character interactions have real depth and heart, the story is a little generic but done very well, and the special effects are TOP notch.

    Solid Star Trek Movie

When I first heard that the director of Fast and Furious movies was taking the helm of the 3rd film in the new franchise, I was more than dismayed. But, surprisingly, he brought a good balance of action but kept the story lines of the main characters relatively intact and only managed to unnecessarily force in one motorcycle action scene. The visuals had good continuity to the first two movies of the "reboot" as well. As a Trek fan for over 40 years, I enjoyed this in the theater and enjoyed it more at home with the bonus features.

I know many people rip on these new Star Trek movies but I love them all, including the originals. If you're too critical of the new franchise, stay away but if you loved them so far, grab this one too, you won't be disappointed. Picture and sound is outstanding, if you have a big screen or projector and a killer surround system, you're gonna dig this. Plus the disc has a host of extras that you will enjoy too.

Great SteelBook Case and Great Options

This review is for the Steelbook version of the movie. The Steelbook itself is beautiful and vibrant compared to some of the Steelbooks I've bought in the past (Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, Deadpool, etc.). The movie itself comes with a downloadable copy, the Blu-ray, and the DVD version of the movie. I cannot speak to the special features as I haven't watched them all yet, but so far everything looks great.

I'm a huge fan of first two JJ Abrams directed Star Trek movies, and was really afraid that this one, directed by Justin Lin is going to be nothing more than popcorn fun, basically "Fast & Furious in space". Well, it's a change in pace for sure, and the movie seems a bit more like a Star Trek series extended episode, but it's still clever and definitely fun. This steelbook edition is beautiful looking, comes with digital copy that is redeemable in iTunes (AppleTV) as well, and looks great next to first two movies' steelbooks :-)

Overall, a very fun and entertaining Star Trek film. Does not compare to the first two films " Star Trek" and "Star Trek into Darkness". However, don't think that this film is a bad one. Some good action moments and good character development. Picture quality regarding the HDR is good. I did not notice any washed out blacks which is a positive in a space film. There could have been some crushing but it didn't bother me. There were a few moments of HDR highlights but they didn't blow me away.

I really liked the reboot of Star Trek with the first film. I didn't care for the second, Into Darkness. As a film it was fine but I didn't like the unoriginal story being a remake of Star Trek II. Then we get the third film, Beyond. I enjoyed this one. I had more character interaction and the dialogue was more in line with the original series. I really loved the call back to the original series at the end of the film. Thought it really tied it together. Of course, I love the steelbook and buy them whenever available.

Star Trek Beyond is a fun and entertaining film, it feels the most like an extended episode of the Original Series out of the recent films, in that it has a relatively simple plot with a lot of great character moments. There's still the bombast and big action set pieces that the previous two films had, but this film also has a few silly moments that may not sit well with all viewers. The special features on offer are relatively substantial and worth digging into, and the film itself has good audio and video quality.

Review of Star Trek Beyond on Blu-Ray

This is the 3rd movie in the Star Trek franchise reboot & it's definitely a good one. When I saw it in the theaters, I knew I had to have it when it came out on Blu-Ray. This movie isn't as action packed as Star Trek - Into Darkness, but it will keep you entertained from start to finish. There's definitely more character development in this movie, something I've been waiting to see happen, as well as that good old Star Trek humor we've come to know & love. All in all, I would definitely recommend getting this movie.

A Solid Entry into the Star Trek Oeuvre

It's not the best Star Trek movie, but it's still an entertaining sci-fi-fi adventure and a good third chapter of the new JJ Abrams era of Star Trek. But with JJ working on The Force Awakens, and new director Justin Lin filling in, it's missing that special JJ Abrams touch, making this a slightly inferior film in my opinion. Having said that, the cast is really growing into their roles and it will be weird to see the next Star Trek film without Anton Yelchin, whom we lost last year to a freak auto accident.

Yeah, it’s got plot holes but still pretty okay. I could do without Spock and McCoy playing cowboy in a spaceship. The Franklin ship was a nice touch.

I really think they have done a great job in the Star Trek reboots. I loved the original Star Trek movies as they came to the big screen and even liked the Next Generation movies. After the first two in this new series, I had high hopes for the 3rd movie. Not that it wasn't a very good movie, it just didn't feel as fun as the first two. Not sure specifically, but overall it didn't seem to flow as nicely as the first two. Some great performances and a good story line with loads of action and great special effects.

The new Star Trek movies have been a pleasant surprise for me. Seeing the new cast take over from the old was a very easy transition. There has been great action and great heart, but this time around, to quote the movie, it seems a little "episodic". The effects were amazing as to be expected, the action scenes were done well, the chemistry among the cast was there (more Bones & Spock scenes!), but somehow it wasn't as good as the first two. Taken on it's own, still a good movie, but we know Star Trek can be better.

Star Trek Beyond [DVD] The DVD itself: Standard jewel case, widescreen format, extra options for viewing are very nice to have. The Film: Can't stop watching this film... I've seen it almost a dozen times now and it's still fun and exciting every time. An instant classic. If you only want to ever buy/watch one of the new Star Trek films, this is the one... It's highly addictive.

I've watched Star Trek since the originals as a boy. I would have never guessed how awesome the revival of this classic series would be today. I love to see these new movies with the CG of today come from what I remember the ones as a boy. Its just great to be able to have not just the story and characters draw you in, but the visually jaw dropping, action packed, futuristic scenes as well.

I bought this movie the week it is released and got it at a discount. I tried going full digital with both Google and itunes and decided to give up. Digital is only good for traveling. I prefer to watch a movie on the big screen at home with the surround sound that I can "feel". For a similar price as a digital download you get a BD, a DVD, AND a digital version. This is what I call VALUE.

In my opinion, this is a great movie that fully belongs in the Star Trek universe. There were plenty of comedic moments that made me laugh out loud. The different pairings, McCoy with Spock and Kirk with Chekov, made for interesting story dynamics that I haven't seen in the first 2 reboot movies. Completely enjoyed this movie. Loved the outtakes and deleted scenes included in this package.

Though I have issues with JJ Abrams' rebooted Star Trek universe, this was an excellent movie; and in my opinion, the best of the three latest Star Trek movies. Once again, the cast did a fabulous job in portraying the original characters, and the new characters add to the cinematic flavor. Visuals and special effects don't disappoint. Lots of action is interwoven into a logical storyline.
