Great design detail but the plastic feels cheap for the price. The speaker volume is way too low.

Very impressed with first rate finish of product. Exact details and character voices from original TV program featured on communicator. However, The downside is no Capt Kirk!! Additionally the sound volume of the product is not acceptable and subtracts from overall experience. $150 U.S. a little steep for Bluetooth sound performance. For die hard collectors only!

    SuperAccurate replica + functioning 'communicator'

I can't say enough great stuff about 'The Wand Company' products. The communicator replica is the most accurate I've seen, PLUS it's also a functioning Bluetooth device! Prop collectors will want this for its accurate portrayal of the 'Star Trek' communicator (at a surprisingly reasonable price) and even casual fans will geek-out on the Bluetooth functions. The device charges wirelessly on a cool-looking stand, and even the case it comes in is super-nice. A must for fans celebrating the series' 50th anniversary.

Looks ok. Cool sounds but poor sound quality for voice calls and difficulty to bring up Siri or google. Best for costume only.

The speaker phone was very quiet. My phone itself was better actually. The hinge that opened so you could answer, etc... was very flimsy and flew open on its own basically. I returned it obviously. I should have just left it in the box and kept as a collectors item.

    Awesome Replica That Actually Functions

The Star Trek Communicator from The Wand Company is a nerd's dream. It's an extremely faithful replica of the hero prop used in The Original Series, but it's built better than probably any prop ever was, plus it's fully functional as a Bluetooth speakerphone that connects to your smartphone. The body is made out of a very sturdy plastic material, and almost all of the trim is made out of nicely finished metal. The flip-open 'antenna' is a beautifully fabricated piece of mesh steel coated a bronze color. The bezel inside spins when the device is operating, and it produces sort of a kinetic 'spirograph' that looks really cool. The 2 buttons are multifunction, and the 3 LED 'jewels' light up differently depending on the function currently being performed. It was a little fiddly getting the charging tower snapped correctly into the base, but the USB plug is the standard size used by my Droid smartphone. It's also very cool that the speakerphone uses wireless inductive charging, so there's no unsightly hole for a charging plug in the Communicator itself. It's got a whole bunch of sound clips from TOS characters programmed into its memory, but once the device connects to your smartphone, you lose access to a couple of these clips. It isn't super practical for outgoing calls because it only has 2 buttons to operate it, but you can use voice commands to call out on it if your smartphone is configured properly, and also pushing a sequence of the buttons will redial the last number called. But when you flip the 'antenna' open to answer an incoming call, the Communicator chirps just like the ones in the TV show. About the only thing I'd like to see them do that they didn't include in this set is to have a magnetic holster of some sort that you could clip maybe to your belt or whatever, so you could then walk around with your Communicator stuck to your side just like Captain Kirk. But that's just a minor quibble. What a fantastic blast from the -- future!

I bought this during a sale and I'm not sure about this purchase. the feel is great, it has weight and everything works as advertised. the build quality in general looks really good. but when I look at it I can tell the metal mesh antenna cover is off alignment and doesn't fit into the closed grooves 100%, i'd say it is off alignment about 10%.. I understand the buttons are designed based on the TV show, so their placement can not be changed, but they work as little joy sticks for selecting between the different sound effects, so they not only push down as buttons but they push left, right, up and down. the joystick action is really good, but I worry about holding up over time the base did not snap together the way the instructions say it should, I could tell the tolerances for the base clip are off by at least 10+%, so it doesn't snap into place completely, It only means that if I were to move it around a lot, the base would probably come apart, but that is going to depend on use. my test callers all said the microphone sound was great and I also think the speaker produces really good sound, not excellent, but even the manufacturer says do not expect dedicated speaker quality I understand it is a licensed toy, I think if you think of it as a fancy toy it will more than make you happy. I think you have to decide if the price is worth it to you, just be sure you can return it if you buy it. ...

Okay, so whether you are a Star Trek fan or not... this little mini gadget is: - FuN - Compact - nostalgic and futuristic - super nerdy - completely able to teleport you back to any of the generations of the TV series or movies --- and an all around modern little piece of amaziness to just have-just because. So many, features, options and did Inalready mention dorky fun.... A great mini speaker too for those Shower Karaoke nights!

Nicely built but the top flip cover is flimsy. Also didn't come with the leatherette pouch it was supposed to have. I returned it as I'm not gonna carry this thing in my pocket.

I bought this for someone as a gift. Looks just like a TOS communicator and had no problem pairing to a phone via Bluetooth. Cool sounds and appearance. Really a novelty gift though since it cannot dial calls, unless you use your phone's voice dialing features. A bit pricey but a good gift for star trek fans.
