4K makes even this look good

I've never been a huge fan of this movie ever since I was lied to by JJ Abrams about Khan being in this movie. However the 4K mastery is good and if you're a collector of the Star trek films like I am you still have to put this one in your collection whether you really ever intend to watch it along with the others again or not. Wrath of Khan it is not.

This was just a a different version of Wrath of Khan in a parallel universe frankly I was a little disappointed. If you're a fan of the franchise you'll probably enjoy the twist.

Let me start by mentioning that I am a Star Trek fan and knowledgable about their continuum. Since this is the 2nd movie of a reboot that still holds onto the original continuum it is very hard to review this movie. If I had never seen any Star Trek until the 1st reboot Khan's character would seem extremely underdeveloped and lacking in depth. Knowing the character and his background actually make that aspect of this movie even worse. While I won't say the acting was terrible Khan was very bland to say the least. The rest of the movie was actually pretty solid. Good visuals, the right blend of action, drama and humour from the crew paired with good writing still make this a fun movie. While it is always interesting as a fan to see where this "alternate" universe heads there is a character that could have been used in the future in great ways that I don't really care if I see again.

    Visually incredible, mediocre plot

I purchased the Blu-ray because I am a completest, but it certainly wasn't for the plot. Visually, the film is amazing with incredible sights, often obscured by JJ Abram's ubiquitous lens flares. Plot wise, the movie makes little sense. From the opening gambit where the starship is used in a completely pointless manner, solely for the FX shock value, to the anticlimactic guess cameo by a former actor that hurts the plot and makes the characters seem like paper tigers, there is little point other than eye-popping vistas intended to keep your attention away from the writing faults. Never mind that the whole new continuity and character profiles fly in the face of the last 40-something years of character development. The new writers will tell you what you want to see because they know best. This new series of trek movies is Star trek for the ADHD Star Wars generation. All glamor, no substance. Watch this film for the FX, but don't expect a great plot or a satisfying conclusion. This is not your father's Star Trek.

Some Star Trek Better Than None

The movie package comes with the main feature on both Blu-ray and DVD. Bonus features are included on the Blu-ray disc. A digital download is also available. This movie gets two ratings: 3 stars for original series fans; 5 stars for those looking strictly for a daring adventure film rich in amazing special effects. The film is a prequel to the original series. The main characters are quite different, not yet seasoned Star Fleet officers nor united in their efforts, and, the villain Kahn is old news. As pure adventure the film is thrilling. Indeed, the Bonus features on the disc focuses almost exclusively on the creation of the special effects and the costumes, not the plot or the characters. In the end, for big fans of the original series, having a Star Trek movie is better than none at all.

Star Trek but not Star Trek

Though it can never beat the original Star Trek crew film movies the Kelvin Timeline films can stand on their own without being official canon to the Star Trek universe. But unlike the Star Trek we all know from the original crew and later TV series this take on Trek is dumbed down from the scientific jargon you make be expecting to hear to just put people in the theater seats to watch. All in all it is a great action film and so so plot.

    Star Trek reboot! #2

If you liked the first Star Trek reboot movie by JJ Abrahms, you'll like this one even better! If your a diehard fan of the original Series, you may be a bit dissapointed with the new direction Abrahms takes his characters and changes he makes in their attitudes! (Spock especially!) Way too emotional for my tastes! Ruined the story for me! Impressive special effects, but I'm a TOS fan from the 60's. Younger fans, who don't know the originals seem to like it! But not the Original Star Trek! That's for sure!

It had some really good moments between the cast but some real bad moments as far as set design and plot elements. The space station was pretty absurd and out of place in any Trek universe. The usual "we are out of plot ideas so let's destroy the Enterprise." raised its ugly head in this one and the mechanics of the final fight were more "Galaxy Quest" than "Star Trek".

This remake of the Kahn story is absolutely the worst of the lot... It had the promise of being the best of the lot, but with the over the top special effects and the over the top acting from several characters, it fell quite short of being a great movie

As a trek fan this doesn't feel like a Star Trek movie to me. There wasn't the necessity to nod back to the og series. Every time you questioned what was going one millions of dollars in special effects were shoveled into your face in an attempt to make you forget the problems of the movie.

I thought the movie was overall pretty good. The special effects were outstanding. The cinematography also was outstanding. I felt they borrowed too much dialog and scenarios from older Star trek's. It would have been better for the first franchise to boldly go where no one else had gone.

After all those rumours and denials, it is what it is: A remake. One of these days, they'll make another trek film where they DON'T destroy the Enterprise. Although, I have a feeling that it won't be the same without this now essential part of the film series. =P

Star Trek into Darkness is essentially a "remix" of the original Star Trek movies. I won't get into specifics as to avoid spoilers. The movie is entertaining enough, though I still dislike messing with Star Trek cannon as the new series does.

This movie is ok. For a better Star Trek movie, watch Star Trek II: The Wrath of Kahn!! This movie is just a remake of the original but instead of Spock dying; Kirk dies. Bought this movie on Black Friday so the price was worth it. Wouldn't buy it for full retail price.

This is reminiscent of the original Star Trek somewhat. The struggles between Kirk and Khan. Then the death and resurrection of a main character. It was a bit predictable that Kahn would be the big villain in the second film of this reboot.

Not great, not terrible, just OK. Entertaining and worth watching but I did not finish and say "WOW, What a great movie", nor did I say "That was horrible!" There were many scenes that the director should have said, STOP! Re-do. Some of the acting was pretty bad

I Enjoyed this installment but I felt like there was a underlining pressure to match the wrath of Khan that was felt in the overall tone of the film, and not neccesarily in a positive way. Still, if enjoy trek you will enjoy this.

Even though Into Darkness is possibly the weakest entry of the franchise, the blu-ray is pretty good and comes at just the right price if you want your collection complete. KHAAAANNNN! (Sorry, couldn't let that one go.)

There's no denying that 'Star Trek Into Darkness' is at times entertaining and action-packed. The movie's biggest faults lie in the fact that it doesn't feel very much like a 'Star Trek' film

The movie was good and the action was decent. The cast really works well together in this one. However they again seem to try a little to hard to mimic the original films instead making something of their own
