Entertaining; but could have been better

Star Trek Into Darkness is an action-packed, well-acted juggernaut of a movie. If you're an old Star Trek fan, you'll recognize it is kind of a remake of the best Star Trek movie made. This makes it distracting for me. I like nods, but not everything lifted and re-used. It's not a travesty like some say, but could have been so much more, especially since they've already introduced the characters so they could do anything. Stellar picture and sound, good extras but this movie was a massive cluster-f for extras since every retailer has an "exclusive" including the idiotic idea to put the Director's Commentary on Itunes.

    Excellent Movie, Excellent 3D

This was my favorite movie of 2013. I am a fan of the Original Series and The Next Generation. The 2009 movie was alright, but this was awesome. I liked the references to The Wrath of Kahn. Some people feel that it ripped off of the past movies too much (Wrath of Kahn especially), but I saw it as showing how some events are inevitable, and how different characters would react if their roles were changed. I cannot recommend this movie enough.

    Good Movie, Meh BluRay

Yes, I'm a sci-fi geek. Obvious since I picked up Star Trek. But beneath it all, I'm a movie geek. I liked the behinds the scenes stuff, but where is the director/actor/anyone-from-catering commentary that should be included with a movie like this? The first (reboot) had it, but not this time around. Sad day.

    Could have been 5 Star

I really enjoyed the movie, but as with most current Sci-Fi movies the creators (Producer, Writers, Director) rely too heavily on CG to carry the whole load. For a movie to have any lasting significance it needs to be well balanced. I understand they are all carried away with their new ability to make anything anyone can imagine appear totally real on the screen, but they need to go back to the days of black & white and no special effects and put some heart & soul back in movies. Special effects are great and put a movie over the top, but you still need a solid foundation to make a really great movie.

Great movie, Blu-Ray low on Features

I bought this version of the blu-ray because we hadn't been able to see the movie in the theatre, and this version promised instant digital viewing before Blu-ray release. This worked out great for us, and then the problems started. Two big issues: Cinema Now (CN) should be called Cinema Not. It worked for us to watch Star Trek Into Darkness (STID) once, and then, we watched some of another movie on CN. Then, we were unable to watch ANY of our CN content, including 30 mins of extra features from STID. To mean, this means I didn't get that for which I paid. I spent 40 minutes on the phone with a CN rep, until she finally declared that there was a programming issue with Sony devices and CN. Ok. Fine. But CN didn't work on three computers, two different internet networks, via 3 diff web browsers, and also didn't work within the CN app itself. 2nd issue: If you read the available "extras" between this version and the other Blu-ray versions, this one is lacking (via any delivery format) at least 40 minutes of extra features. Extra features are a MAJOR reason I buy blu-ray, because my DVD player upconverts DVDs VERY well, I don't really need Blu-ray for the movie. Anyway, DON'T buy this version for the Cinema Not content. Get one of the other Blu-rays with digital copies if you want all the content, and don't want to deal with broken Cinema Now.

    Love Star Trek!!

I have always loved Star Trek going back all the way to the original series and of course TNG, Voyager, DS9 and Enterprise. The new incarnation of Star Trek by JJ Abrahams while bemoaned by a lot of hard core trekkies is loved by many including me and it really breathed life into it's lifeless body and Star Trek Into Darkness continues that trend! Great visuals, great acting and plot!! SEE IT TODAY!

I liked it more in theaters

Star Trek: Into Darkness is clearly not going to hold up to repeat viewings as well as the first one did, but despite the increasingly obvious fact that I enjoyed the film more on my first viewing I still think it was a mostly positive move for the franchise. It stuck to some very classic Star Trek story themes, the characters are just plain fun and are all used well and of course Peter Weller. Yeah. Outside of the now infamous "flipped" scene towards the end of the film, Into Darkness is still a very solid Star Trek film.

Amazing and beautiful movie! I have been looking for this blu-ray steel-book for some time. And Benedict Cumberbatch is great and scary as the villain General Khan.

Great Movie I have seen all of the originals, this move is great for first timers who do not know who Khan was. Yes they changed the story but it's still awesome. Funny, action and blowing things up.....

    A surprising sequel

Visually the movie is stunning and the acting is decent. Overall, it's a great sequel for the reboot of the franchise. If you're looking for a lot of substance though, don't start watching this and think you're going to get it...you won't. Watch and enjoy it for what the movie is...pure entertainment, and you won't be disappointed.

I really enjoyed this Star Trek! (Loads better than Star Trek Beyond.) However, I'm torn between the first one and this one as to which is a better film. Regardless, I recommend this film to anyone who loves sci-fi or Star Trek, or J.J. Abrams flicks.

    A New Generation of Trek

I truly enjoyed the new generation of Star Trek movies with the new director. The cast and crew may be familiar in name but they are the next generation for sure. This will probably be the next long lived set of stories we will watch for years to come.

    Fast-paced and Intricate Plot

Exciting and enjoyable movie. Outstanding special effects, and intricate plot line. Great tie-in with the original Star Trek TV series. However, the early bedroom scene with Kirk and the nude alien chicks was an unnecessary vulgarity.

A great nemesis does Benedict Cumberbatch make

I really enjoy Benedict Cumberbatch's villain in this movie. Even though there are times when he could've easily destroyed Kirk and his crew, and you're like "why didn't he just kill them?" or "why didn't he use his powers right there?", it's still a descent movie and very entertaining. Visuals and sound are well done too.

    Action Packed Trek

This isn't old-school Star Trek even though they borrow quite a bit from it. That irks some Trek fans. It's still a fun ride in JJ Trek #2. The picture and audio are great but it could use more special features on the blu-ray.
