Everything about this release is high quality, AQ/PQ for the movie itself, excellent supplemental materials (The Secrets of The Force Awakens is great, and the additional features spotlight aspects of production beyond that). The SteelBook packaging looks and feels great, and although it is not a precise match to Episode I-VI Steelbooks for those whom have them, it still feels as though it's in the same family. A little high in price compared to the regular release, but this is a premium presentation deserving of it.

Star Wars is back. I know a lot of people are nitpicking over some minor issues with this movie, but it's about a billion times better than the prequels. Actually the trailers for Force Awakens were better than the prequels. Daisy and John are really great actors and I really felt like they really brought their characters to life. I saw it 5 times in the theater and I've watched it every day since the day the blu ray came out. I have a hard time finding things to complain about. If I had to pick two things: when Han shoots someone without looking, and the music in the cantina. Pretty minor things. I was 4 years old when my parents brought me to see Star Wars in 1977 so I'm a pretty die-hard fan. I have watched each of the original trilogy movies around 800 times. The Force Awakens is a great return for the Star Wars franchise and I'm very glad Disney took it out of Lucas' hands. I've already seen the Force Awakens more times than I've seen all three prequels combined. I wish Disney would remake those and throw out the ones we have now.

This edition leaves some things to be wanted, if you're used to the special edition blu-ray releases of today. But keep in mind folks, even if you purchase this same edition of the NEXT two films in the trilogy, as they release, you'll be coming back in to pick up the entire trilogy (or God forbid) entire SERIES pack shortly after that. And how are they going to make that worth your while? Even nicer collectible packaging and even MORE special features. So keeping in mind that Disney has no intention of giving it all to us right now, this package offers exactly what I'd expect for the price and is certainly the best 'Only At' edition that I've come across in any store. VERDICT: Solid, well built case with nicely done, slightly holographic artwork. Typical, high end Blu-Ray quality and good amount of special features. Good value for the money, barely $5 more than other stores' editions that are hardly worth choosing over the standard edition. I wouldn't go anywhere else for a copy of this must-have film.

    Good 3D

Presumably everyone who is interested has seen the movie by now, so I'll review the 3D Blu-ray. We wanted the 3D version because that is how we originally saw it in the theatre. (It's too bad that Disney made us wait so long for a 3D version to be available for purchase.) The 3D effects are actually quite good. I'm of the belief that, if you're going to pay a premium for 3D, then there should,be plenty of it without seeming gratuitous. (An example of "insufficient" 3D is the release of "The Lion King" on 3D Blu-ray. There are some effective uses of depth effects, but not enough effects that jump off the screen to justify the 3D purchase. An example of gratuitous 3D effects is the release of "Jurassic Park" on 3D Blu-ray. That one--while fun--is a title bit over-the-top.) I can happily report that "The Force Awakens" makes a logical and effective use of 3D. The Blu-ray's 3D effects are better than I remember seeing in IMAX. If you like to watch 3D at home, this one is worth the purchase.

Star wars TFA was a great movie that lived up to the hype. Had many funny and charismatic moments and an enormous amount of nods to the original trilogy. Sometimes it can feel a little heavy handed, some even see it as a con that it follows a new hope too closely but I honestly feel there's enough new to make this film stand on its own two legs. BB8 is a great addition, the heroes are interesting and share a great dynamic. Kylo Ren in my opinion was a great character, he is struggling with internal conflict which gives him a certain level of complexity. Even Anakin and later Darth Vader both had internal conflict with being called to the light or dark side respectively. Anyway, the steelbook looks great i like the focus on the villains and the inside has a great shot of our favorite ship. The special features give a good look at the making ofs and the actors thoughts as well as their stories and reaction to being cast. BB8 behind the scenes and much more make this worth the buy. I'm more than happy about my purchase.

...is the first line spoken in Star Wars: The Force Awakens a movie about family, loss, discovery. And rebooting the films after the prequels dramatically weakened its place among the greatest franchises ever. While I hope Episode VIII will bring a few more surprises, Episode VII is the best Star Wars movie in nearly 40 years. Picking up some decades after the end of Return of the Jedi, The Force Awakens tells a story remarkably similar to A New Hope. For some its too similar. For me, I thoroughly enjoyed a film that was safe but felt like Star Wars. This wasn't a movie designed to take risks but a movie meant to establish and introduce the audience to new heroes while honoring its legacy. This makes Star Wars: The Force Awakens an unbridled success in my mind. It has X-Wings, Tie Fighters, the Millennium Falcon, Han and Chewie, and a new cast worthy of taking on the immense challenge of continuing Stars Wars for both the old and new generation of viewers. I can't wait to see where they take the franchise next.

The Force Awakens makes Star Wars great again by bringing back the fun that was sorely lacking from the dull prequels -- which were like watching 2 hours of C-SPAN with a few action scenes tossed in to wake audiences from their potential slumber. Ignore the complaints by some that the new film just recycles from the original trilogy. Yes, it does have a lot of story similarities, but even the prequels rehashed similar events in ways that mirrored parts of episodes 4-6 (look up online essays about the circle theory about 'Ring Composition' in Star Wars films 1-6), only this time they've made the SW universe entertaining again and it makes all the difference in the world. Rey and Finn make a great addition to the cast and Kylo Ren has the potential for an interesting character arc. I'm fairly confident that writer/director Rian Johnson won't let us down in Episode 8. The steelbook itself has a good design with Ren & Phasma on the outside and the Millenium Falcon on the inner art and a debossed title on front..

    The galaxy rejoices

Although the plot lines may feel familiar to A New Hope this is a Star Wars for a new generation that succeeded where the pouty and bloated decadence that were the prequels did not. The old and new characters fit seemlessly together to allow a new story line to come from where Jedi left off. Don't let detractors mark Daisy Ridleys performance because even Mark Hamill's Luke was originally whiney and seemingly forced at times. The effects are awesome and the finer points of the story including character development keep the again familiar story line moving. Its not a rehash, but perhaps thats also the point. If the force always seems to fall out of balance than perhaps the galaxy far far away is doomed to repeat itself in similar ways. Meesa just so happy that annoying gungans and cgi robots do not dominate this landscape. Better yet the smile you will get when you see the virtually indestructible and quite timeless Millenium Falcon's debut is enough really for this force fanatic to call this a triumph.

    STAR WARS Is Back!

I went into this film with great excitement but slight skepticism. After all, this was a sequel 32 years in the making and didn't have the involvement of the series' creator, George Lucas. But it featured the return of my favorite actor, Harrison Ford, along with contributions from some of my favorite filmmakers, including John Williams, Kathleen Kennedy, and Lawrence Kasdan. Surely it wouldn't disappoint, right? The answer: no. While not as ingenious as the original trilogy, this is a fun, exciting, worthy follow up to the original trilogy. Sure, it has a few head scratching moments and a plot device I wish it hadn't included in the form of yet another super weapon. But, overall, this film delivers the goods. Reuniting filmgoers with old favorites like Luke, Leia, Han, Chewie, 3PO, and R2 while also introducing a new cast of characters who are sure to become future favorites in the form of Rey, Finn, Maz, Poe, and my personal fave, BB8. Do not miss this exciting continuation of your favorite space opera!

More natural 3D with not too many obvious effects

I think J J Abrahms was going for a natural, "if it can be real, it should be" approach in effects in general, and this shows up in the 3D. The most obvious 3D scenes are the Star Destroyer in space coming right in your lap, and the Millenium Falcon chase scene within the star destroyer. that and Kylo Ren's Lightsaber sparking and Snowflakes in the final land battle shows it's 3d. Admittedly if Abrahms would have artificially turned up the 3D for effects, it would seem like pornographic 3D (in a non-snuggly way), and that would have violated his general vision of "if it can be real, it should." In most cases if real life had pornographic 3D, you'll poke your eye out. So it seems like a realistic 3D. It looks more nautral, especially compared to The Phantom Menace 3D, which was never releases on Blu Ray, and I saw why. It looked like animated 2D cutouts places on different planes. This is a good way to add depth to the event a long time ago in a galaxy far, far away.
