Saw in the movies for my birthday present - wanted the extra features

Glad to be able to find this locally as 3D is becoming hard to find.

Droid holds secret to destroying enemy's base, which can destroy planets. Good guy sends droid to find help. Droid ends up on desert planet. Droid finds hero on desert planet. Hero does not have parents and is sick of life on desert planet. Hero meets up with unlikely sidekick. Hero, sidekick and droid escapes desert planet on Millennium Falcon. Hero meets up with mentor. Mentor dies at the villain's hands. Hero and villain fight. Good guys destroy enemy's planet-destroying base. Am I describing episode IV or episode VII? C) All the above.

Another addition for the classics. Your either a fan or your not.

The best 3D since Avatar. Stunning audio. A must have for the 3D lovers.

Star Wars can be likened almost unto a religion at this point, such is the sway it holds over the imaginations of some people, so reviewing this movie can be a little daunting. That said, I loved this movie when it came out and continue to do so after several viewings. Yes, it's definitely hitting a few derivative beats with the original Episode 4, but I found all the new characters compelling and I'd be more than happy to see future movies featuring any of them. I don't think I need to go into the content of the disc, since more than enough's been written about the movie at this point. That said, this is a good Blu-Ray release, with a great transfer (as might be expected in this day and age) and a few extras that I'm likely never to watch unless really bored. If you liked the movie the in the theaters, then buy a copy and don't be held hostage to a streaming service that might lose the franchise later when negotiations break down.

I grew up with the original Star Wars trilogy (episodes IV, V, and IV), so I can be a bit particular when it comes to good sci-fi. Other than a somewhat decent storyline, good special effects, and nostalgia the prequel trilogies (episodes I, II, and III) were barely worth my time. Due to the prequel trilogy's awfulness, I did not have high hopes for this movie. That was fortunate, as I could sit in the theater like a little kid again with my jaw in my lap. This was a fantastic continuation of the story first brought to us in 1976. All of the sad portions, the happy portions, the funny portions, and all of the goose bump inspiringly awesome portions add up to a great film. I would imagine this is even great if you are not a Star Wars fan from before; probably on purpose as this is the way to introduce the story of Star Wars to a new generation. That said, it was still fantastic for all of us old-school nerds.

The Force Awakens on Blu Ray 3D is a must-own for any 3D enthusiast!

The 7th movie in the Star Wars series has been much awaited by the fans of this genre, and it is a whole lot better than episodes 1-3 combined. This isn't just because it is a re-awakening of the "force," but also a repeating in many ways of the screen play of the original episode 4. It is a great send up of that first Star Wars movie for good reason as it awakens in our own memories the reason why we loved the franchise so much even after being dulled to sleep by the back stories of episodes 1-3. However, there is a shocker near the end of this episode 7 that has everyone saying OOOH NOOO, and also a lead in preview at the end of the picture for the characters who will be involved in episode 8, but putting the shocker aside, it is overall a hoot for Star Wars fans. Remember, the running story line in these movies is: everyone is related to everyone some how or another, which makes these films a family treasure hunt or feud!! It's your call.

What a monumental task. When J.J. Abrams was asked to direct the continuation of the beloved characters from the original Star Wars trilogy, reactions ranged from elation to, "Oh my gosh, please don't screw it up like Star Trek: Into Darkness!" Thankfully, Abrams pulled off an amazing piece of work. Yes, it's got many similarities with Episode IV: A New Hope, but The Force Awakens introduces two of the most likable characters the Star Wars saga has ever seen in Rey and Finn, while tying them to old favorites like Han Solo, Chewbacca and Leia. The Force Awakens is a roller coaster of exciting special effects and riveting storyline. The Blu-ray looks and sounds spectacular. The only down side is that no 3D version is available and there is no Dolby Atmos soundtrack, but those won't be much of a loss for the vast majority of viewers. If you loved A New Hope and The Empire Strikes Back, you're almost certain to love The Force Awakens.

My favorite parts were the reintroduction of the original casts even though cameos or extended cameos. I was surprised by the apparent death of the Han Solo character. I thought the movie dealt with the reintroduction of the Luke Skywalker in an excellent way. Had he been brought back to vanquish the Kylo Ren character it would've been quicker than slicing melted butter. I've listened to 40 or so audio Star Wars books. Many of them would've been good movies, but, I like this because there were scenes unexpected and the need to set up younger, more physically able to do action scenes for future movies, was important. I like the pairing of Rey and Chewbacca. I'm interested in learning who the parents of Rey are. I think if the was a daughter of Han and Leia it would've came out in this movie. I sort of like the speculation she is related to Palpatine, or, the granddaughter or Obe Wan from the years he spent watching over Luke.

The video quality of the Blu Ray print is flawless. The color depth and clarity of the image is as good as it gets for a 1080P screen. The IMAX scenes don't look any different. They are not formatted in a different aspect ration or anything like they were in the IMAX theatrical release. They look identical to the rest of the film. If you didn't know which scenes were shot in IMAX, I don't think you'd be able to tell from watching the Blu Ray. The audio quality is great. The volume differential between the special effects and the spoken dialog can be big at times, making it very loud when there are explosions, but that gives it a true cinematic experience. The steelbook itself is odd. It has 3 discs packed into 2 disc holders. So the special features disc and the DVD disc are sitting on top of each other. I thought that was kind of weird. The top disc was not scratched on mine. But I don't love this method of packing the discs.

The Steelbook was well worth the movie. And the movie was great!

Wonderful story, of course, a great gift for a Star Wars fan.
