    Exciting Reboot

Basically this is a reboot of episode IV, A New Hope. It has a similar storyline, but with a more diverse universe as we follow a woman, Rey, as the lead, a new Droid BB8, and an African American actor playing Finn, a runaway Stormtrooper who goes to the other side. BB8 has a map to the whereabouts of Luke Skywalker. Together they search for him while encountering Princess Leia, Hans Solo & Chewbacca, and being pursued by a new villain Kylo Ren. The Blu Ray looks great and there are a lot of special features make this an entire afternoon or evening viewing.

Being the fanboy I am, I was very excited to hear a new story was coming to the Star Wars Galaxy. To hear that JJ Abrams was going to be at the helm helped calm my apprehension at having Disney involved. I was pleased to see that they are starting this up for a new generation and feel the story line is just the start it needed. Familiar faces, memorable punch lines from the prior movies and no Jar Jar Binks made this a wonderful flash to the past and the future. The steelbook is also a nice touch. Add this one to the collection and forget about the prequels.

This movie is worth watching for the cinematography and technical wizardry, and for Daisy Ridley as Rey. The story is terribly contrived, and is essentially a remake of the original with Rey taking Luke Skywalker's role, Han Solo becomes Ben Kenobi. Poe Dameron and Finn loosely fill the Han Solo and Princess Leia characters. And yes, there is a new Death Star. It's not called a Death Star, but it is basically a bigger, but less scary Death Star. I say it's less scary, because it is even less believable than the completely ridiculous original concept of the Death Stars from the original series. I can't help but wonder what they are going to do for Episode IX. Will there be an even bigger, and more ridiculous Death Star then Starkiller Base from TFA? One Death Star was amazingly cool. Two Death Stars was stretching it a bit. Three Death Stars is just going way too far. Four Death Stars and you would wonder why this New Order has gotten as far as it has if it can't learn from it's mistakes.

Saw this in the theater and needed a refresh before the next installment of the Star Wars series comes out. I will forever treasure episodes 4-6. Not a huge fan of 1-3. Was scared of what Disney would do to the series, but they nailed Force Awakens. I have only watched the blu-ray thus far-- really bummed there are no plans for a 4k release. Watched it on a 4k TV with HDR. Visuals are amazing and the sound is fantastic. Just bought the TV and blu-ray player. Only the third movie we've watched and it blew us away. Love our first steel case too!

    The start of something new

Abrams did a stellar job starting the new, continued series. Had a few 'ah-ha' moments which is always good. It was a very good, and nostalgic movie. It kind of wrapped up and filled in some things and transitioned to the start of a new series that will become a 'must see' set of movies like the rest of Star Wars. Very good series, ending with a good final movie. But, I did kind of want something more. Not sure what though:). Best buy always is my go-to place to pick up new movie releases. Especially with the Blu-Ray + DVD + Digital HD copy. Good deal.

My family re-watched the the mostly dopey prequels and the iconic original 3 the weekend before we went to see this in the theater, and were blown away by just how amazing everything was! It was exciting, was much better than the prequels and it does kind of get you emotionally at times. The DVD set itself is Blu-ray/DVD/Digital. We price-matched with another store and had some reward bucks, so we got it for a really great price! There are also lots of cool extras we haven't finished watching yet. I would highly recommend this to friends and family.

It recaptures the innocence of the original STAR WARS from the 70s. I saw that one, the first weekend it was released, and was really pleased with its ability to create that comic book, Saturday matinee milieu. All of that has been lost in the last three sequel/prequels that were ground out, during the first decade of this century. This one seems to have returned to that original spirit, with spunky characters and surprises everywhere. It feels like a fun, escapist movie rather than the quasi-religious horse manure we've cone to expect from this series.

Saw it multiple times in the theaters and have already watched the DVD at home twice. Awesome movie, and it seems to grow on me each time. Btw, I saw the original Start Wars (New Hope) in the theaters as a kid, so this is the 3rd gen release for me. Some aspects area little "off", like the planet size weapon, but the personal interplay is off the charts awesome. Rey's "awakening" is intense and the scenes are captivating. The flight/battle scenes, while defying physics, are watchable over and over. I know I will see this movie many more times!

Yes, the plot is fairly predictable, but history repeats itself. Follow new characters alongside the old favorites through a new world of Star Wars. Classic light vs dark side of the force, with some great cameos of other famous actors and actresses. Saw it twice in the theaters, and now watch it regularly at home. Can't wait for my kids to be old enough to start getting into the live action Star Wars instead of just the Lego versions. Special features include some cool behind the scenes of how they designed and filmed BB8 among other cool things.

I'm a Star Wars Fanatic from the Original Trilogy. This is my favorite of the Disney SW movies. It left us with so many promising possibilities and the production was old school sensational, realistic, believable. It was great fun. Too bad the last 2 were absolute train wrecks with no coherent continuous direction or story. Disc Quality of Movie is top notch and at a Black Friday price of $14.99 How can you go wrong?

Any movie that was created for 3D release should be seen in 3D. Interviewing the directors of these movies reveals that they are first visualized as a 3D movie and then flattened for 2D. "They are made for 3D and that is they way they should be watched". Unfortunately the TVs were released before there was movies to watch on them. My friends are searching for used 3D tvs now that they have watched a 100" 3D projector with massive 5:1 sound. Any flat 2D TV is still a picture on the wall across the room.

Okay, to keep it short, Great movie, love steel box series for the cases. The movie itself is very enjoyable, a different take on A New Hope. Some people have panned it due to it not living up to the Original, but, old people like me need to remember its not for us, but for the new Generations, and its for them to have their favorites. I however, loved it, like the way Disney took it, and look forward to seeing even more movies. Maybe they will do the Clone wars in movies instead of cartoons. Great movie for the family, and not overly complicated.

Better re-releases of the same movie is a sore subject among movie collectors and the release of this deluxe 3-d version of The Force Awakens is no different. Many felt that the 3-d version should have been released back when the standard version was available so that they could just buy the movie once. It made no sense that it wasn't available as most if not all movies that hit the retail shelf offer both versions day one. So what do we get for the wait? Nothing special really. All the bonus materials have been gathered together on this one release versus being spread over the various exclusive versions of the standard release. And a giant case. All in all, the important part is that we get the 3-d version which features excellent 3d. I could do without the big bulky case which is why I deducted a star in my rating. It looks neat, but was not necessary. Hopefully Disney has heard the complaints and won't FORCE us to wait with the release of episode 8 in 3-d on blu-ray.
