    Amidst controversy...

I thought it was great! When, I saw the original trilogy, I was enamored...but, also, a child. They weren't without their flaws. Many of us were upset that the prequels did not grow-up with us...but that may not have been exactly what made some of us not feel that they were the story we wanted. Lucas said Star Wars is about family issues. I would have to agree. The prequels were, too, about family issues, although...I digress. I think Episode VII does what we want. We have a story about family...and I feel like there is much more depth to uncover (facial expressions in last scene). It definitely was the sequel I wanted. There was an Abrams touch prevalent, but the magic was definitely back. Could I over-analyze the movie and find flaws? Yes, but did I, as a child, over-analyze the original trilogy? My point is simple: If you want to find fault, you will, and you will be upset. Your fear will lead to hate and your hate will...make you not like the movie. If you think back to watching the original trilogy hundreds of times, before the "Special Editions", and the glee it brought to live in a fantasy outer space world, you will love this movie and debate buying multiple copies of this lovely steelbook...just looked at mine again and smiled :)

Star Wars Is Back In Top Form

There is so much to be said about this film and in my opinion its pretty much all positive. Whether its the tremendous characters from the main stars to the awesome bb-8, the insanely intense action sequences, or the strong story and powerful messages underlying, this film is just a blast. With most films you have one protagonist whom you connect with and really want to cheer for, but in Star Wars you have a plethora of heroes to root for, even ones like Poe who get little screen time but certainly leave an impact. Another thing this film succeeded at was capturing the spirit and feel of the original classic star wars. I believe they attained this by not only the formula in which they filmed the movie, but also by way of story and character interaction. While I was watching I just kept thinking "hey this reminds me of return", or "wow that totally channeled A New Hope", but never was it in a way where it was forced or just rehashed ideas in order to do a little fan service or take a shortcut. All in all it embodies the spirit of the Star Wars we know and love, while also opening up a whole slew of new and interesting characters and sets up a thrilling trilogy that well be fantastic until the final credits roll.

    A New Hope

Almost completely met my (high) expectations. A satisfying new (hope) beginning, The Force Awakens was utterly enjoyable and a great positive experience. Wasn't even bothered by the fact that it's structurally a remake of A New Hope. What makes it memorable and what works so well is the characters. Harrison Ford IS Han Solo, and Rey and Finn are great new characters. Kylo Ren is an interesting if not as intimidating villain as Vader, and I really like Adam Driver's performance. The same with Daisy Ridley and John Boyega. Oscar Isaac is a really good actor whose character didn't leave as much of an impression on me, but one I feel will do so more when he gets more to do in the sequels. Abrams doesn't reinvent the wheel here, but does create The Wheel Don Draper style. Nostalgia is very eminent, but the film never gets bogged down by it. A little more on Harrison Ford; it's really nice to see him not on autopilot - a rare feat in the last 10 years or so. For someone supposedly not a huge fan of Han Solo, Ford gives it his all and just inhibits the character totally. Maybe he was afraid of fans reactions if he didn't give it his all, lol. Whatever, it worked. Really looking forward to Rian Johnson's installment, can't wait.

This movie generated so much polarizing opinions about it. Some people said it is so much like the third movie, and in the way, it is. But it was so much fun to watch. I love the new characters. The acting of the young actors, I must admit, is much better than the prequel movies that focused so much on special effects. This particular purchase was a very good buy because I want a copy to watch it at a later date (I saw it in theater, and later with a rented copy.) I do like the Steelcase – but you have to be quite careful with it because it is easily dented. If most Blu-ray are priced under USD10 like this, they would generate much more business and perhaps put the movie theaters out of business, as well. I realize that it won't take long for them to release this movie in 4K/HDR format and if they price it correctly (under USD20), they will make even more money. USD30-USD40 is a bit too much for a 4K HDR movie.

New installment, for a new generation!

After growing up with Star Wars, Disney has now picked up the torch for a new generation. Although the effects are great, I can't say it's better than the original trilogy. However, it's a great refresh for a new generation, and is the dawn of a whole new franchise. Unfortunately, it lacks a memorable soundtrack other than the original theme, and it plunges us into new ideas for Star Wars .such as children out of wedlock (i.e. Kylo Ren, the apparent love child of Han and Leia). True to Disney form, they also had to add the death of a character, which unfortunately was a fan favorite. While I did like it somewhat and it does have its value, I will say it had the odd backlash of causing my 7 year old to turn away from Star Wars altogether ..stating he no longer likes it! Hmmm. Still, it's now officially part of the franchise, and I truly hope this introduction back to a galaxy far far away tightens up it's act and keeps fans from losing the love they've always had for the movies. Not a fan of JJ Abrams, and do tend to think this movie has some of the look and feel of a Star Trek episode, which worries me about his continuation at the helm. All in all, it's still a must have for any video collection.

❖ The video quality of the Blu Ray print is flawless. The color depth and clarity of the image is as good as it gets for a 1080P screen. The IMAX scenes don't look any different. They are not formatted in a different aspect ration or anything like they were in the IMAX theatrical release. They look identical to the rest of the film. If you didn't know which scenes were shot in IMAX, I don't think you'd be able to tell from watching the Blu Ray. ❖ The audio quality is great. The volume differential between the special effects and the spoken dialog can be big at times, making it very loud when there are explosions, but that gives a true cinematic experience. Some stereos have a night mode that compresses that volume range. (Note: My set up is a 5.1 surround system. The Blu Ray's surround track is a 7.1 audio track but I can't review that fully. The 7.1 track on my 5.1 system sounded fine.) ❖ The box itself is odd. It has 3 discs packed into 2 disc holders. So the special features disc and the DVD disc are sitting on top of each other. I thought that was kind of weird. The top disc was not scratched on mine. But I don't love this method of packing the discs.

This is one of the best movies to see in 4K. Revenge of the Sith, Rouge One and Force Awakens are the only ones to get. Looks incredible in OLED, almost a 3D feel to it if you have your settings done right. Level of detail is staggering. Highly recommended!

When I heard a new Star Wars film was being released, all I could think of was, OH NO, not again. The memories of the prequel films came immediately to mind. But once I found out J.J. Abrams was writing/directing and Mr. Lucas was only producing, I began to feel a new hope, pun intended. When I saw it, it blew me away and I was so happy the movie franchise was redeemed. Yes, it's similar to Star Wars: A New Hope, but that was deliberate and to bring back the nostalgia of the original trilogy. It has a superb cast, with the new and returning favorites, and quite a few surprises, one that made me tear up when I saw it. But, it is overall a great set up film, just like the original, to move the story forward. So, if you love action, adventure, sci-fi, great acting and a wonderful storyline, with out of this world special effects (yay...they used practical effects as much as possible, rather than relying on CGI for everything) and/if you are a fan of Star Wars, I highly recommend this movie to you! And if you have any non-Star Wars fans, now is your chance to make them realize how wrong they have been in their life! :)

Great beginning to the last 3 in the star wars saga, the 4K video and dolby atmos is excellent, little upgrade over streaming on Disney, but not as huge as going from something streaming in DD 5.1 to say DTS MA 7.1 track.
