I Thought it was Mostly Great
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I didn't make the opening day of this latest installment of the Stars Wars franchise. I am sure glad I didn't put a lot of stock into the negative reviews. Actually, more times than not, I usually like the movie more when there seems to be a somewhat high percentage of poor reviewers, and this movie was exactly that. It wasn't the best Star Wars movie, but come on, there has been some real stinkers, and in my opinion, this one was no where near the bottom. Luke! Luke! Come back Luke! Hey, this is Hollywood, you never know how Luke really is! If all the bellyachers keep moaning and groaning about how Luke's good Jedi name was smeared, the powers to be just may bring Luke back in an even less assuming role. And let's face it, in the last movie they killed off Indiana Jones....er....Harrison Ford, and the Princess died in real life, so it was only fitting that Luke had to move aside to let the next generation step to the front.....and it was time. Time, something even a Jedi warrior cannot win.

Cathartic
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I saw this movie about eight times in the theatre. I did not like it as much as episode VII, but it was definitely a more mature, deeper and more fulfilling story. Episode VII was a great popcorn flick, but this movie strikes at the heart and essence of humanity and the eternal struggle of good, evil and how to break the cycle. At first i was put off by all of the various plot holes and nagging choices such as the Canto Bight sequence, among others. After the third viewing, the movie clicked and resonated with me in a way the other movies did not. The production value does not get any better, the special effects are amazing, and it developed all of the characters. There are some things at the surface level that are off-putting for sure, but overall the movie is awesome and takes Star Wars to a whole new level. I'm excited for Episode IX and would encourage those put off by this movie at first to give it another shot and look deeper.

Divisive, but amazing. 2nd best SW movie
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I know I will get a lot of the not helpful ratings like everybody else in this who gave it good reviews, but I absolutely loved this film. The mindset of both of the protagonists struggling with their teachers. Trying to fight the opposite. Having to learn from their failure to become greater than either side could possibly be. The mythical hero who had to suffer the loss of his nephew to the opposite side but seeing his academy torn down by it. It was a dark but mature film that does not deserve the hate it got. I understand that the Rose and Finn casino scene is hated because it is a little long, and in the end where Rose stops Finn from saving the resistance by sacrificing himself was frustrating, but the overall story was about failure, and over coming those mistakes to better yourself was greatly shown.

Excellent Movie fanboys hate new direction
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This movie was a really great experience. I loved almost every second of it (other than the side story)., The reason this is getting so much hate, is the same reason why Empire Strikes Back got so much hate when it first came out, and after Return of the Jedi came out, it is described, by many, as the best Star Wars film, and one of the best films of all time. It took Star Wars deeper. took turns and twists that people did not predict. It goes against their fan theories, and I'm glad it did. The look on the major characters is exciting and makes Rey and Ren powerhouses. This is Mark Hammill's best outage as Luke as we get to dive into a troubled and damaged Luke from his *SPOILERS* failed Jedi academy. Once Episode IX comes out, it will make a lot more sense. The way Star Wars is going, the finale will be incredible

The Force is with 4K
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is a very nice looking Blu-Ray. The use of red in this movie is absolutely gorgeous. I really liked the movie too. It's not perfect, but the director/writer really introduced some great things to the Star Wars franchise that can allow growth and innovation in years to come. Some of it can be hard to swallow at first for a long time fan (Me), but if you put your emotions aside as I was able to do and really break down the story of the film, you will realize it is the smartest and most interesting way they could've taken the series. Still, like I said, it's not perfect. Some scenes are completely pointless and there is a lot of hit or miss comedy thrown in. Still, this is a must buy 4K Blu-ray because who doesn't want to see that one lightsaber scene in Ultra High Definition?

Early review because it seems to be the thing
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. You should not listen to the angry nonsense from the 'fanboys' this was a rock solid entry into the series. Especially the ones who rush off to post a review of something based on their own temper tantrums about the movie. Personal opinion I enjoyed it a lot, its definitely not without holes and issues. But considering the MASSIVE ones that those same crying fans over looked in all the others, 4,5,6 included without a doubt. The ones here are nothing. Personally I didnt care for some of the direction but it was a fresh and more importantly enjoyable entry in the universe. As for 4k vs BluRay. Given certain things in this movie I wont spoil yet, the 4k option is by far and away worth it, if you have the TV and Player.

Star Farce: The last Joke
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have been a fan of the series since it's inception with the original Movie. I have appreciated the effort and treatment of the characters until this new movie turned things upside down for me. If you are a true fan of the series, the most disturbing portion of the movie was the handling of Luke Skywalker's character. To take the iconic central figure and turn it into a final act in which he practices astral projection which utterly sucks the like out of him is pathetic and not what one would expect out of a so called powerful Jedi master. I would have rather have seen him go out in a blaze of glory, slicing through a horde of the New Order than what I had witnessed. It was clear that they intended to kill off the old characters to usher in the new. No one lives forever and we understand that. Carrie Fisher's character was also laughable and not to be taken seriously. To see her get blown out of the spaceship and then fly back to the ship like some broom-less witch was both silly and pointless as all of the other characters next to her were eviscerated, but somehow she was nearly unscathed. They missed the golden opportunity to just end her character and now have to waste time on number 9 for a makeshift funeral of sorts. Here are some other points to ponder. Fuel. This was the first time fuel was a factor, so they must have borrowed a retro ship from space 1999 or something. Rey's character seems to need very little training to attain expert status as a light saber Jedi, kudos to the 3 days of hurried training. Poe's character was emasculated twice by overt feminism which seemed to dominate the issues and prove him to be useless, so shut up and fly! Captain Phasma turned out to be no match for Finn as he somehow outsmarts her and she is pushed to her early demise with no backstory or real fight to her. You can also forget about a love story building between Finn and Rey. They put that in check with the self sacrificing Rose. After she kissed him, it was true love. There are all too many points of order in which the director went progressively bold and made the hard decisions necessary to completely ruin the Skywalker legacy and make characters into meaningless shells of themselves. The action scenes were the high point of the film and they were spectacular so I will give kudos for that but you can only go so far with that before returning to another final scene where your favorite character literally disappears into oblivion. The final message of the movie was that anyone can be a Jedi, which is the earthly equivalent of passing out participation trophies. Good job Disney. Movies should leave you with a sense of satisfaction and hope, not to feel numb for the experience.

Reality
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is perhaps the most controversial Star Wars Film.(at least until Solo) While i understand the abundance of issues in the film even the most hardcore fans must realize that the new films are being created on the soul purpose of grabbing the attention of a whole new generation as well as somewhat subdue(as much as they can) fans of the old. People complained about the lack of originality in the films, well, Rian Johnson did what he was asked to do. Make. Something. Different. Overall people need to get used to the new way of holly-wood directors and their writing.(Except the Finn and Rose storyline, that can walk its way into the trash compactor. Sorry that seems kinda tacked on, but you know, so was Rose.)

A Good Star Wars film
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I enjoyed The Last Jedi more than I thought I would. It was different and unexpected. It was interesting to see the force being used in ways never seen before. Mark Hamill, Daisy Ridley, Adam Driver and the late Carrie Fisher were all wonderful. My biggest complaint of the film is that new characters that had potential were killed off. Though the film is not perfect, most of fan outrage is nitpicking and can be explained. I do wish certain parts of the film were done differently(Finn and Rose subplot) and the humor could of been toned down a bit. Despite some of its flaws, the Last Jedi was an enjoyable experience and can't wait to see where the story goes next.

Don't listen to naysayers, feel your own feelings
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I loved this movie! I highly recommend it to all Star Wars fans. Yes, things have changed about the characters we loved growing up, but that's what's good. They have changing lives. As do we all. We just need to change our expectations of what WE want, and understand that we are not the ones making the Star Wars movies. Other people are. So enjoy or don't enjoy it. It's up to you. But don't bash it because it didn't go the way you wanted it to. If you want to write and direct and produce a Star Wars film that goes your way, then contact Disney. Everyone has different tastes. That's why they make chocolate and vanilla.

Overall disappointment
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. What a disappointment. Watch the Blu-ray bonus section, and on several occasions you'll hear actor Mark Hamill dispute the direction of his character, Luke Skywalker, as defined by writer/director Rian Johnson. Mark is absolutely correct in his assessment. Johnson decided to put his ego and politics first, and gave us a Luke Skywalker in name only. Johnson and the Disney executives who approved this film should have all been replaced before it was released. They appear to have no idea why the original trilogy worked so well. You can't throw together a group of unrelated characters, mimic scenes from a previous trilogy, update special effects, slap them together, and expect a good story or film. Is it too much to expect consistent character behavior from the veterans of the original trilogy? Apparently so. Is it too much to expect new characters to make sense in the story, and be believable with their roles? Again, apparently so. I laughed when I watched the miscast Laura Dern. Yoda's behavior in this film contradicts the wise, deliberate sage we saw in the original trilogy. And Luke? Kidding, you must be. It's clear that Luke and Leia were being phased out of the series, to be replaced with new, younger actors. OK, I'll buy that. But we deserved one last time for Luke and Leia to work together throughout the movie, and remind us why they were so successful in the original trilogy. We expected to see them take active leadership roles, and pass their wisdom and experience on to new, younger characters. Instead we got a movie dominated by a mishmash of new characters who have no idea what they're doing, playing out a number of ridiculous scenes (such as the bombing run, or the death of Snoke), with a lost soul named Luke dragging this film down until the end. No, it's not all negative. There are some great scenes here as well, and some great visuals. The music was perfect. And it must be noted that Daisy Ridley is quite an actor - she was brilliant. But overall, the story and its "direction" (and the lost Luke Skywalker) left me yearning for the real Star Wars. Finally, as others have noted, this film is infested with politics and political stereotyping, that do not belong here. Apparently the original trilogy is the best we'll ever see, and the last of the real Star Wars.

"This Is Not Going To Go The Way You Think"
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Look, at this point you probably already have an opinion about whether or not this movie is so bad it will usher in the End of Days. I happened to love it for its unpredictable twists, terrific performances and abundance of Luke and Leia. This DVD/Blu-Ray/Digital release has some nice bonus features, including several deleted/alternate scenes that I honestly prefer to what made it into the movie. Some nice extra development for Luke, Rey, and Phasma. Commentary from writer-director Rian Johnson sheds a good deal of light on his approach to making TLJ the way he did.

Sort of kay as a movie, bad as a Star Wars episode
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.First off, I'm just sharing my opinion, I'm not claiming to be right vs. people with differing opinions... The movie feels like an imitation of a Marvel movie as far as attempts at humor. I love most Marvel movies and I have loved Star Wars, but (to me) they have certain qualities that aren't interchangeable. Childish interactions between Poe and Hux fall flat vs. how they fit for Starlord and Ronan, or a small woodland creature and any particular bad guy, or a guy in an iron suit vs. anyone. Sudden and fantastical new powers that work for comic book fights at airports, feel odd here (I won't spoil Mary Poppins or a few other strange moments). There are poor leadership choices by characters that are made only to create lecture points to other characters (and in turn the audience). If someone that is implied to be a good leader took two seconds to speak about the plan to the best pilot/hero... (skipping spoilers). There are strange side adventures and large plot holes that constantly took me out of the moment to think "how did that happen", "when will this scene be over" and "why should I care". The answers after the movie ended: "don't know", "not soon enough" and "I guess I missed something?" In several places, the odd behavior by established characters, and wholesale changes in story while 8 episodes into a 9 episode arc is frustrating. It feels similar to a TV series making huge changes negating seasons of story because they don't know what to do next. Sometimes these swerves can be fun, but in this case they are throwing out key points from movies that are thirty+ years old, without much purpose.

Great movie but flawed
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Rian Johnson has created a visual masterpiece and has brought new, original, themes and ideas to the table. Over time this movie will be loved by a lot of what risks it took and how it changed the tide of Star Wars the main negative is poor writing as the comedy does fall flat at times and the mistreatment of character to have parts of an SJW moment in the movies. Besides that, the Star Wars fanbase will always be toxic and divisive but this is one of the best Star Wars Films as I can't wait for the conclusion of this trilogy.

We're in Trouble Now
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Lukes first serious line and he ran to help R2 and CPO. If he had aleast said "I'm in trouble now " when Rey asked for help, I would have been satisfied. The story takes a complete turn around and attempts to gender block the rogue pilot. With Han gone there is not much left for story line except another Disney Princess. I'm a fan of Dianey ( see my review of "Enchanted"). But Star Wars has the word "war" in it. Luke does not stand around praying during a war thats Obi Wans job. Luke old or young engages the enemy and injures them. Don't give me princesses with magic wands. This is war. Let George Lucas direct the movie "Remake of The Last Jedi".

Great Star Wars Movie
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. If you are one of the few who have NOT seen this movie, don't listen to the 1 star reviews you see on this site. These folks are disappointed their fan fiction theories did not come true and run to the internet to leave lame scathing reviews. The movie is really good. Beautifully shot, wonderfully acted, and filled with intense drama. It subverts what you know and what you think should happen in a Star Wars movie, but it's all the better for it. It's not perfect. But it's one fun movie.

Good movie with missed moments but better than TFA
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.A solid movie with some flaws and missed moments as well, but better than TFA. It was far more original, had better action sequences, and art direction than the last one. Many more emotional stand out moments as well. The downside, it felt a bit uneven and I wasn't a fan of Rose. There was an amazing moment at the end that also left me feeling sucker punched as well. Overall they didn't play it safe and stuck closer to Lucas's planned vision. Don't listen to others and watch it yourself.
