Better than Force Awakens, but not as good as Rouge One or Solo....

IF YOUR A STAR WARS FAN THERE IS NO NEED TO ASK JUST WATCH

As a die-hard Star Wars fan, it's hard to see what they did with the character of Luke Skywalker in this movie. I think if I were in charge of developing the story (not that I should ever be given that kind of responsibility), I may have done something similar, but would have let the character (SPOILER ALERT) live on to the next episode. Overall, I don't love this movie, though it's hard to separate my feelings about the movie from my feelings about Luke. But it's growing on me with every watch. That's the great thing about owning this movie in 4K. I can watch it at home over and over again in beautiful high-def. It is a beautifully shot movie and it has a handful of amazing sequences that are not to be missed and instantly become some of my favorite Star Wars scenes of all time.

Rian Johnson has created a love letter to Empire Strikes Back in movie form. It mirrors Empire's arc and critical character development components, providing an excellent second act in a trilogy while providing a driving three act structure of its own. These characters don't map to the classic tropes in the same way, but it's fun to look at the decomposition that Johnson has done. The visual effects add to the homage feeling, with Rian relying on more practical fx than most big budget tentpoles would dare. The steelbook packaging is excquisite, a must for collectors.

I saw this in the theater and cant wait to see it on 4k at home.
