Finally found my perfect compact keyboard!

So, I've been primarly rocking another major brand for all of my PC gaming peripherals for the past 10+ years. I just purchased a brand new custom-built gaming PC back in Feb and did some major upgrades to my entire setup around then, as well (new desk, keyboard, mouse, the whole thing). Ultimately, I wasn't too happy with my new mouse and the 65% keyboard I had was...meh. I've heard a lot of great things about SteelSeries and I've been doing a lot of research over on Reddit. I've learned that I'm really more of a TKL buy, but man, I do love the small form-factor of these 60/65% keyboards. So, I decided I'd go with the SteelSeries Apex Mini Pro to see what all the rage is...I've heard time and time again that SteelSeries makes some of the best big-box branded keyboards out there (non-custom). As soon as I received my Apex Mini Pro, I immediately cracked it open and set it up. The unboxing was pretty average. With this version, you only get the keyboard itself and a nice, lengthy, braided USB-C to USB-A cable. I love that the cable is detatchable, even though this keyboard is ONLY wired. There is a wireless version, but I'm more of a wired guy, myself when it comes to keyboards and mice. Once I got it hooked up and everything powered on, I installed the SteelSeries Engine/GG software. I've heard about a lot of bloat here, but honestly, it's not that bad and I believe I like it more than the software I've been using for my other brand. The RGB is fantastic! I also love the textured feel of the PBT keycaps. They don't show oils/smudges/grease like some of my other boards show and I like how the RGB shines through. My fingers also don't feel as "slippery" when gaming for long sessions. Really, my only complaint with the keycaps is that when you hold the function key to access the other layers (like if you want to hit an F key, Del, Arrows, etc)...while the keyboard lights around the various keys for that function level...the text for the secondary layers and such do not light up on the keyboard like the regular letters and numbers do. This kind of makes it a pain using it in the dark, especially while you're still learning where everything is at. I'm not docking for this, though, as my other 65% board was the same and with other brands, this also appears to be the norm. I did test out the Omnipoint actuation speed and the dual-layer action key bindings. For the actuation features, I freaking LOVE it! I set it to the top, for the fastest speed and haven't looked back. This makes barely touching the key register vs. having to press it halfway to register the keypress. This makes it great for fast-paced games like CoD or even an MMO like FFXIV, where you need to move as SOON as you press that key. Alternatively, you can set this as per-key, as well. So, if you have a key you don't use often but say, accidentally hit a lot, you can set the actuation point to the very bottom, so you really have to press it for it to register! As for the dual-action keybinds...I was less impressed by this one mostly because it just doesn't' feel...natural. This basically sets the key to where a light press does one thing, then a full press does a second thing. But, it's incredibly hard to "train" yourself to do this. I'll stick with the Omnipoint speed adjustments, but for the type of games that I play, I don't ever see myself using the dual-action binding feature. But, that's my personal preference. It's still a great option to have! I am, however, going to dock a star from my review for the build quality of the keyboard. Unlike the other Apex Pro boards, this one is metal only on the top, around the keys. Elsewhere else (sides and such), it's plastic. This keeps the board from feeling 100% premium compared to SteelSeries/s other flagship boards (like the Apex Pro TKL). Additionally, given the price of this Apex Pro Mini board, I would have loved to seen a small OLED screen like on the other models and they also skimped out on providing their outstanding wrist wrest, like they have on their other keyboards. My guess is...the ones provided with their others magnetically attach. BUT...where this one only has plastic around the outside...there's no possibility of it attaching magnetically. But...even without that, I would have loved to have seen a matching wrist rest provided. It doesn't have to attach! But don't let that one-star dock fool you. Let me just say this...I loved this keyboard SO much that I went all-in on SteelSeries. I got their Aerox 9 MMO/MOBA mouse and their QcK Prism XL mousepad. And just the other day, I ordered their new Arctis Nova Pro headset. So, I am now fully a 100% SteelSeries guy. I believe this is the first time a product has impressed me so much that I just ditched everything I already had and went 100% in... So yes. If you're looking for a smaller, compact keyboard and won't miss immediate access to your F keys, arrow keys and such (honestly, how much do we REALLY use those when gaming?)...GET THIS KEYBOARD. Besides, It's not like those keys aren't just a function-keypress away!

Great keyboard with so many features. Let's start with the size, its a 60% layout, I like smaller layouts as it saves tons of space on my desk (you still get most of the functions of a full sized keyboard, it's just that some keys have a dual function, printed on the side, you just press the steelseries logo key in combination with any of those other ones (like F row keys, insert, delete and even the arrow keys, only con is that those side legends are not RGB see through, so you must have a desk light to see them, unless you memorize them). I would have preferred a 65% which would include the arrow keys by themselves and other like delete or insert, but I'm just cherry picking. They include a nice braided USB type C cable and a key cap puller that hides beneath the keyboard with a rubber flap. I have my own aviator cable, so I'm not using the included cable, but its nice. The key caps are made of dual shot PBT plastic (finally a large gaming company including these! These have a nice texture you can feel and they will never get oily or shiny, like most other keycaps made of ABS plastic). They sound nice and there was little pinging on the keyboard. The switches are Steelseries own Omnipoint ones (these are 2nd gen though). They feel like a linear switch, however you can tune the actuation point in their GG engine software (which I found very easy to use and, most importantly, it does not take much resources, its very light, unlike other that hog your CPU). I live how customizable the switches are. You can either set the whole keyboard actuation points using the hotkey on the keyboard, or per key in their software. I have my WASD, crouch and spacebar keys to the lowest point for fast response when playing Rainbow six siege. I also love a function called "dual actuation", this one is a winner. You can set a key to perform a function in your game if you press lightly and if you press more another. In example, in rainbow six, I have my "C" key setup so if I press lightly my character will crouch, but if I press if hard, he will prone, amazing!! The RGB lighting is nice but not that bright, since these are PBT keycaps, I like that. Great gaming keyboard if you want to save space on your desk and frag like a champ!

Overall this was the perfect gift for my brother, he’s had the same gaming keyboard for 3 years because he believed that there wasn’t another one just like it. After opening and trying out the keyboard he instantly became attached and said that this keyboard was perfect. It’s smooth keys, its size, and its sturdy like performance. Thanks to the helpful team members at Best Buy, I was able to quickly find the right keyboard. Thank you for making this purchase quick and easy and breakdown each keyboard piece by piece!

Excellent keyboard I recommend it! It’s really good if your on pc because you can change how much you have to press the keys. I use it to play Fortnite and it’s excellent. It’s one of the fastest keyboard on the market. To me it’s worth the money. The rgb lighting is excellent and it sounds good. It’s a really small keyboard so it fits on my desk nice compared to some of the bigger 60% keyboards I have. But by far this one is my favorite. Also In the box it comes with the software you can yse to change the rgb and the Acuation on the keyboard which is how far you have to press down the button. This keyboard is great for gaming and work. And that is all hope I win the $400 giftcard! :)

After half a year of using the SteelSeries Apex Pro Mini V2, I can confidently say this is one of the best 60% gaming keyboards out there. The adjustable actuation, Rapid Trigger, and smooth HyperMagnetic switches make it a top-tier choice for competitive gamers.

Feels great especially with the feature about its actuation only issue I really have is the price and spacebar being a little loud. My family member thought someone was knocking the door but I was just spamming spacebar! I personally don’t like steel series software and would recommend a wooting60he even though it can takes a couple of months I still think it’s worth it, it feels better, is modable so you can switch out the case and whatnot, and you do not need to install any software you can change settings in the keyboard just from a browser not unnecessary background apps needed unless you want to download it as well! But if you can’t wait the couple of months and need a keyboard like the wooting60he then the steelseries is still an amazing choice but do get it on sale at an affordable and reasonable price!

I'm actually enjoying this keyboard more than I thought. I appreciate the small changes Steel Series has made to their Apex Pro lineup with this new Mini version. Here are some of things I enjoy/don't enjoy most. PROS: -Detachable braided USB-C cable -Doubleshot PBT keycaps -Great RGB implementation -OmniPoint 2.0 switches are incredibly fast and of course have adjustable actuation in software -No audible case ping like a lot of pre-built keyboards CONS -Keyboard is very plasticky and doesn't feel as premium as it costs. It's also very light and can sometimes slide around if you don't use an extended mouse pad. -Media controls or at least a volume rocker would have been a nice addition for the price point.

Best keyboard out there for gaming thanks to its low Actuation switches, and the keyboard sounds almost perfect, you can barley hear it with headphones on, and without them on this keyboard still sounds good, I have had this keyboard for a while now, and it hasn't had any problem's, it is very fast for any game, and with updates, it just gets faster, ill give this a 9/10 and would HIGHLY reccomend it to any gamers.

This keyboard is honestly awesome. It’s small, so it doesn’t take up a ton of space on my desk, and it feels really good to type on. The keys are super fast and smooth, and it just sounds nice too. I didn’t think I’d care that much about stuff like how fast a key reacts, but now that I’ve used it, it actually makes a difference. I use it for school and some gaming, and it’s been great for both. If you want something that looks clean and feels high quality, I’d definitely recommend it.

Me and my brother have used the older TKL version in the past, and this is almost the same thing just smaller. It does have some nice upgrades though like PBT keycaps so it feels better to type on and won't look ugly and glossy over time. Besides that the keyboard is very compact and insanely responsive. I'd recommend it if you absolutely must have the fastest switches and want a 60 percent layout.

This keyboard is just the smaller version of the popular Apex Pro TKL. The board is built well and the actuation adjustable Omnipoint switches are the best selling point. I’ve used KBD, ducky, hyper x and other keyboards before but so far this board has been by favorite. The actuation points for each individual key are controlled in the Steelseries software. I actually bought the Apex Pro TKL and only purchased this because I wanted the Omnipoint switches on a 60%.

I questioned why in the world my son would need this keyboard for gaming, but then we opened the box... I own a Logitech MX Keys keyboard that wasn't exactly inexpensive, but the SteelSeries comes in at almost twice as much! The SteelSeries is a quality piece of kit! The keyboard is much heavier than I expected, which keeps it planted on the desk as my son aggressively plays his shooter games. Even though I personally prefer low profile keys like on a laptop, the keys on the SteelSeries easily have the best feel I've ever experienced on a keyboard. If you've ever had the opportunity to play with the switchgear on a Ford, then a Mercedes, and then a Bentley, you get around to understanding where the money goes on the more expensive vehicles. You can tell where the money goes in the SteelSeries...
