Needs a little work

Waste of Money
||Posted . Owned for 2 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. If I could give this thing 0 stars I would. I previously had a first generation roku that was running phenomenally, However, after moving and downsizing my media center I wanted to upgrade and get something that would plug directly to the tv and not take up space or show chords. Well, I should have just dealt with the chords. This thing is constantly showing “low” power mode when turned on and frequently shuts off in the middle of watching. It is extremely frustrating, I will probably end up replacing it with a different product soon. Save your $$ and don’t buy this junk.

Roku - Less Expensive Alternative
||Posted . Owned for more than 2 years when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Does solid work at a low price, but it is nowhere as intuitive as Apple TV. It works, but just not as smoothly as Apple.

Buy a case of batteries if you want one of these..
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.DON’T BUY THIS PRODUCT. I purchased one of these in early December 2020, and I liked it so much I went back and bought two more from my local store. I was puzzled when the batteries in the first one went dead, but I just replaced them with a name-brand set thinking little of it. Then I found that the other two remotes were dead a week later. Checked the first remote again, and those cells were half gone. Went to Roku’s forum, and surprise-surprise. It’s a very common issue that has been going on since at least mid-2019. One issue involves using plug-in headphones draining the remotes, but my remotes don’t have that feature. The other common issue is like mine, the remote stays “on” when nothing is being pressed and kills the batteries over a week or two. But, no worries per their techs on the forum, just send them a message with your name, address and S/N, and they’ll replace them. I got confirmation on 12/22 they were on it, and my replacements were on the way. So, here we are Jan 24, 2021, and nothing except a follow up email asking if I’m happy with how they resolved to my issue...??? Hey Roku, hire some better engineers, and get rid of your PR people.

||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. Not much variety to watch and mostly old old not even 1 or 2 seasons old but years old episodes. But.... if you have nothing then at least it gives you a little something

It’s pretty decent
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The roku works great but the remote control sucks. I had to download the roku remote app to get around their poorly built remote (& it’s not the batteries)

Remote chews through batteries
||Posted . Owned for 2 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Do not purchase this specific model! The remote control drains batteries at a ridiculous pace; every 3-4 days. I got this for Christmas and have had it set up for about 3 weeks. I’m now on my fourth set of batteries. I like the Roku when it works but this is incredibly frustrating. Roku customer service is nonexistent. This is a well known issue and Best Buy should pull it off the shelves until Roku resolves it.

Great stick, ruined by a terrible remote
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The "enhanced remote" for this stick disconnects constantly, forcing reboots and leaving next to the device before it will work again. Longest range we use it at is maybe 12', yet every time we go to use it, it does not control the roku. This model is one of the few we can't just use one of our it recorded with. I would steer clear of this one until they come up with a solution.

Too many steps to sign up
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Too many steps to sign up and then you might have to pay for some things even though you paid for Roku. Thought I was going to see local channels, but could not find them? This is great for movie watchers.

Meh.
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The Roku stick operates just fine but the set up process takes way too much time because it forces you to sit through having to download dozens and dozens of channels that it never asked whether you care about or not. Then you have to turn around and delete all the ones you don’t want taking up space. It’s very intrusive and completely unnecessary. I would rather have a fire stick. Especially if you’re an Amazon prime member. It’s just foolish not to have a fire stick if you are.

Works good but always crashes.
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The roku stick is awesome, when it works. If you don’t reset it every few days, it will force you to do so. Sometimes it simply won’t come on or the sound will not be working.

Rom ended but mine had issues
||Posted . Owned for 4 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I love this device, so bought one for my friends birthday, however the one i purchased had an issue and never turned on... black screen and doesn’t work... i personally own 2 of these sticks, but this one obviously had an internal problem.... BUT I STILL RECOMMEND THIS DEVICE BECAUSE ITS WAY BETTER THAN AMAZON FIRE (when it works).

50-50
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I bought it because my Sony is not an android tv. You have all the apps possible but sometimes it can mess up. You have to unplug it and plug it again. It’s bothering when you’re watching a show.

Just OK
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The product performs well, but is a little spotty with speed and wi-fi reception in all locations throughout my house. If the future I would consider a box versus a stick to overcome the performance issues.

READ BEFORE YOU BUY THIS PIECE OF JUNK
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Wish you could rate zero or below. Bought this based on high ratings. Was returned in less than 24 hours, what a piece of junk!!! Followed all the directions but the remote wouldn't pair with the stick, then I started reading all the solutions, unplug the stick, remove the batteries, re-plug in etc. etc... Nothing worked. Then started searching for solutions via google and you suddenly find out this seems to be pretty common and there's a known issue where sometimes the stick might get interference from other hdmi ports so you might need to use the hdmi extender you can get for free via mail from Roku... If it's that common why not just put the stupid extender in the box!!! Was extremely frustrated but also was looking for Roku for a solution to have all my streaming readily available in one place. Took this piece of junk back to best buy less than 24 hours after purchase and exchanged for the Roku premiere. Premiere plugged in, remote connected right away, had everything set up and running in less than an hour. Don't waste your time with this crappy piece of plastic, spend less money on the premiere and save a lot of headaches

Note to self-DON'T EVER INSTALL ROKU DEVICE AGAIN
||Posted . Owned for less than 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have 4 devices in this house, 3 in another, and have installed multiple others for friends and family. One died at home. I ordered this "stick" as a replacement. Yesterday I installed it on the playroom tv. A bit wonky, but not bad. It did not pick immediately show the channel lineup the other devices, but no problem - it's on the least often used of all the tvs. I won't bother to make it match, or to set up most of the accounts. Tonight: Hot supper in living room. Limited time. Go to Roku to pull up next episode of current series. Holy crap. ACTIVATE???? Ok, leave hot food, move to computer, activate device. AND LOG IN??? Why? This is my main device! I did not replace or want to edit it. OK, LOGGED IN. IT'S READING CHANNELS??? WHAT THE HECK? i HAD EVERYTHING IN THE ORDER I WANTED, ONLY THE CHANNELS I WANT, NO JUNK, ALL MEMBERSHIPS ALREADY ACTIVATED ... Wait for channels to load. Done with cool dinner. To heck with watching tv with hubby tonight. A CHANNEL LIST FULL OF JUNK THAT NEEDS TO BE MOVED AND CLEANED OUT!!!!. Nope. Never again. The next time one dies, that tv is dead to internet tv. I'll watch on my laptop or ipad. If I can't trust that I won't have to start from scratch, on each and every device on my account, everytime a new roku device is added - I'll never add another. I've been a roku fan and promoter for more years than I care to remember. 15? But more and more, I hate devices and programs and systems that think that they are more important than my time. Roku has become one of them. And I'm done.

Works as advertised
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is a very good device. It allows my standard flat screen to operate as a smart tv. There a a lot of apps which are free to download, but some do require you to have a subscription for use.

Boo!
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This Roku Stick is awful. They want me to pay, for ads?! They spend enough time advertising everything that the device can do for my entertainment center ... nowhere did it say anything about ads. Returned!
