Great Platform, Overheating issue
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Roku has a great platform and is extremely easy to use. The reason for only two stars is the fact that it overheats and becomes borderline unusable. It crashes on us frequently and the only way we have gotten it to work is by placing a fan near our HDMI ports and aiming it directly at the Stick.

Posted .Hello, thanks for your feedback. If you are receiving an on-screen error message indicating that your player is too warm, we invite you to visit: go.roku.com/tempcheck.
You may want to try finding a cooler location for your Roku player. For example, avoid placing the unit inside a cabinet or other closed space. Avoid placing the unit on top of other electronic devices such as cable boxes, routers, or audio/video receivers. You'll also want to avoid placing the device in direct sunlight.
You could also try moving your player further away from your TV by installing an extension cable—we offer them for free for Streaming Stick customers here https://my.roku.com/hdmi.
If your issue persists, please send us an email at support.roku.com/contactus so we can help.

Good streaming stick, but pay more for better exp
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Good streaming stick, but the user interface lag, and I only know it lags because i have better ones and see how smooth things are. So if you don't really care about it and just something that's smarter than your dumb TV, this will do the job. But pay $10 for something that gives you better experience, especially if you are going to use this for years to come. It still works though so that's great@

Awesome...until it overheats.
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. So, my SmartTv can not process my fast internet connection, so streaming is kinda laggy. I got this because Netflix was refreshing too much and I pay so much for fast internet that refresh is not a word I’m used to. This lockdown has really nullified my existence. I’m watching about 100% more tv in April than in March. First couple days this worked so perfect. Loved it. And then I got the ‘overheat’ message. This was on day 3, maybe 2 hours in. It hasn’t happened lately cuz I limit use to 2-3 hours. So, maybe I have a defective product. I’m sure Roku is gonna write some stupid message about how to take better of the Roku Stick. My tv does not run hot. It’s pretty new. Love to see how a Roku rep can spin outta this one. And if you think you can set this up out of the box with the directions they include, forget it. We had to look online for extra steps to hook it up. But that’s my wife. I was stuck on why it would not pair after we followed directions. I was gonna return it. It takes 2 (that’s what she said).

Sooooo much better than FireTV Stick
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. My FireTV stick was purchased so I could use KODI. It was very sluggish, and KODI really doesn't work any more. This was a revelation. It is so responsive, and has a great UI. No Spotify, but not really KODI's fault. Buy it immediately!

PRICE MORE THAN EXPECTED
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The streaming device is great. I had one before but it vanished some how after some workers were here. The first one was much less expensive. I have yet to use the voice part.

Best Value Streamer on the market
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. For $50 dollars and its wi-fi performance and feature set it makes it the best media streamer in the market. It has all the major apps plus a lot more. HDR looks good but you have to have at least 25mbps to get the best PQ.

Great streaming stick
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Like all Roku sticks, this one has never disappointed. Coupled with excellent Roku customer service, I am very happy with my unit. When I need to replace my streaming stick again, I will continue to look to Roku.

Best streaming option
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Looks amazing on my 50" 4k TV, way better than the chromecast that was replaced by this. The 5 GHz wifi on this stick is a must for streaming 4k content smoothly.

Passable but not great streamer
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I bought this because Comcast is moving away from including free cable boxes on their Xfinity service and I wanted to try their Stream app out. However, I did download other apps just to compare it to Android TV and my Apple TV 4k devices as well. Overall, I've been disappointed so far. It's not the overall device performance itself; that's actually really good. The quad-core processor helps out here. The app selection is tremendous; you get tons of options beyond the usual suspects you'd expect on a smart TV or streamer. My disappointment comes with picture and audio quality. While 4k HDR is beautiful, picture stutter isn't terrific to see in the middle of a movie or TV show (app-dependent but it happens with Netflix, Amazon Video, and Disney+). The audio is also somewhat garbled, especially with 5.1 soundtracks (experienced in Apple TV+, Netflix, Amazon Video, Disney+, and the Roku Media Player app). I don't have these issues with other platforms. Also disappointing is advertising inside the home screen. I don't pay what I did for a device just to see ads to sign up for services I don't want or need, which is part of the reason I bought this over a competing device from a company known for 2 day shipping. Something else I found to be disappointing is some of the app selection. Not something I'd want my kid to come across, and not an issue on other platforms. I know other streaming sticks come with is an HDMI extension cable. This is something Roku should have included for the price of this device. This limits where you can place the device (I wanted to put it on the back of my home theater receiver, but I can't have something sticking out 4 inches off the back of it). It also didn't fit in my downward-facing HDMI ports on my Sony XBR850C. It wouldn't work well with my LG LM57, as its HDMI ports face backward. It also wouldn't work well with my Samsung Sound+ 650 soundbar because of a lack of space by its HDMI ports. My XBR4? You'd see it sticking out the side and it wouldn't fit in the rear HDMI ports. Finally, my biggest complaint is a combination of a not-good remote and no HDMI-CEC control. In 2019, no HDMI device should lack CEC, and the volume buttons on the side of the remote feel flimsy. I feel like I'm going to break it eventually. Would I recommend this device? Over an Amazon Fire device, yes, but not over an Android TV device or especially an Apple TV device (if you're willing to spend Apple TV money on a streamer).

WiFi Remote Issues
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. All of the streaming features of the Roku are wonderful. It is working as advertised in the HDMI port of my TV. I cannot give it 5 starts because it broadcasts a jamming signal to my home WiFi. The Roku-Direct signal which is a point-to-point WiFi for the remote, broadcasts at the same channel as my home WiFi. If I change the router channel, the Roku moves with it, following the strongest signal. Any WiFi devices closer to the Roku than the Router suffers poor WiFi performance. Multiple emails with Customer Support has offered no solution and has been a frustrating experience.

Frequent Low Power Issues
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I purchased this item last August. I attached it to my Samsung TV using the supplied USB power extender cable and the power adapter. From day one, I had it plugged into the wall socket. Initially, it worked fine. After about two weeks, the "Low Power" message popped up on my screen. Unplugging the device and plugging back in (rebooting) resolved the problem for a day or so. After 4 weeks, the "Low Power" screen would appear 2 or 3 times a night. After 6 weeks, it would shut down 5 or 6 times a night I tried all the advice I could find on Roku's support page. Finally, I contacted customer support, and they could only give me advice that I already tried. For example, change the HDMI port, use the power adapter, etc.. Another problem I had was the batteries in the remote were draining at a rapid rate. Within three weeks. Not sure what causes the batteries to drain so quickly. I stopped using the device several weeks ago because the constant crashes were very annoying. I would have returned the device, but Roku's return policy is overly complicated. You have to ship it back to ROKU, then they send you a replacement. How do I know the replacement device is not going to have the same problems? I guess I'm out $50.

Works fine only when clost to Wifi
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. It works fine when it is in living room where my wireless router is. When I tried to put on the TV in my bedroom, it could not pick up WIFI signal. But my Apple TV works fine in any of my rooms.
