Roku still a great choice, now with Airplay!
||Posted . Owned for less than 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Had Roku Streaming Stick (3800R) for about two years. Unfortunately, 3800R doesn't support Airplay since Roku introduced it with the latest (9.4 OS) update. So, we decided to replace it with Streaming Stick+ (3810R). Unplugged the old one, plugged in the new one, device updated itself to the latest software, hopped on over to Roku's website, activated the Stick+ and device automatically downloaded and installed all our apps from the old device (login credentials for each and every app had to be re-entered on the new device, which is to be expected). Noice! To be honest, we don't see any difference in speed between the two devices, I think maybe the new one's remote has a mute button which the old one didn't. Other than that, don't know, both were connected to our 5Ghz network, none of the apps were or are lagging, BUT Airplay is now supported and it works as advertised. Still have to try casting from our iPad to all four Sonos speakers and Stick+ at the same time. Should work. We'll see. On a side note. Do not forget to check Roku's forum/website for a list of Roku devices that support Airplay, if you're interested in buying a Roku and want to use Airplay. Not all devices support Airplay even if they are updated with the latest 9.4 Roku OS! Anyway, if you're interested in Roku, I'd suggest to at least start with Streaming Stick+ and skip Express, Express+ and Premiere. With Stick+ you get long range wireless, volume and power controls on the remote (plus mute button), and 4K support. Others either have one feature, but not the other. So, it's worth to spend 10-20$ more on Stick+. Short of going all out and splurging on Nvidia Shield, Roku is your best choice for a streaming device. Ok, maybe some Android boxes like Verizon's and TiVO's boxes have some advatnages over Roku, but if you're familiar with the Roku ecosystem and want to freshen up, go for it. Especially when/if on sale.

Definitely worth it
||Posted . Owned for 4 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Bought it as a Christmas for the family and they loved it. It's been used every single day (mostly for youtube) and so far no issues. You do have to connect it to a power outlet so keep that in mind. It's not as bulky though as the cheaper Roku streaming device so that's an upgrade. The remote comes with volume buttons which come pretty handy and you can link it to turn on and off the tv with the roku remote instead of the Tv remote. Definitely recommend.

Make Your Dumb TV SMART!
||Posted . Owned for 3 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Bought this streaming stick to turn a dumb TV into a smart one, and it actually lead me to purchase a couple more Roku devices. The app selection is great, the interface is simple and customizable and the quality is great. The remote is simple too compared to the bulky remotes that the TV’s come with today. I don’t use half of the buttons on them anyways! The Roku is a much neater remote. If you need to update your kinda smart TV, or even your dumb TV, this is the way to go.

Excellent Streaming Device for a Great Value
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. We purchased this streaming device to test out all streaming television so we can decide to cancel our satellite cable service or not. Within the first few days we were convinced. The enhanced Wi-Fi connectivity is excellent, the picture quality is great from HD to 4K, the access to all available streaming services, and the easy to use but feature robust remote are all great features. There is not anything negative we can find to say about this device.

Replaced 4 Spectrum DVR's
||Posted . Owned for 2 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. After years of paying for cable boxes (DVR's) for each of the TV's in our home, I decided to keep one DVR for recordings and replace the rest with Roku sticks. My experience so far is that if I could, I would replace the last DVR with a another Roku stick. They are easy to install, feature rich, provide an amazing picture and are equally easy to use. However if you are in an area with frequent internet outage or broadband speed degradation, stick with cable (coaxial connected) boxes.

Replaced Spectrum set top box; saving $9/month
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The main reason I bought this was to stop paying $9/month for my 2nd Spectrum set top box. I downloaded the Spectrum app for Roku and it does everything that the set top box did. All stations on Spectrum are available via the app. You still need to subscribe to Spectrum and keep at least one set top box, however using Roku with the Spectrum app replaces paying $9/month for each additional box. The Roku setup was very easy and the Roku remote can be used to turn the TV on/off and control volume as well.

Best money I've ever spent
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The Roku streaming stick is easy to install. Had it up and running in less than 5 minutes. Excellent HD picture quality and sound. Subscribed to Hulu and Netflix and now have lots more channels with Hulu Live T.V. than I had with cable and so many fabulous movies, and original series with Netflix. Love it so much I bought an other Roku for another T.V. so I wouldn't have to move the stick back and forth between T.V.s. Highly recommend this product, Best of all was the satisfaction of cutting the cord with cable and saving a ton money every month.

Great stationary and portable streaming device
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. We bought this Roku streaming stick for my daughter for Christmas. It was so easy to hook up and use right out of the box. She prefers using it over the Smart TV streaming options since it is much more user friendly. We even took it with us on a trip to a resort and were able to hook up the Roku stick in the media room with no problems. The price for the Roku stick is so much more affordable than other big name streaming devices and it delivers all the same content!

Good streaming device that is easy to use.
||Posted . Owned for 2 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Bought this as a replacement for an Amazon Fire Stick. This is a much easier to use streaming device with much easier method of loading apps than the Fire Stick (outside of jail breaking and side loading apps, which can be problematic at best). One of the major features is that the controller is much easier to use over the Amazon Fire type. The only major issue is that it does not connect to a bluetooth keyboard, which would be ideal but not a deal breaker.

Great streaming device
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have previously owned a firestick and a chromecast for streaming. The speed and ease of use for the Roku far surpasses both devices in my opinion. Very easy to use interface/home screen and I like that you can program the remote to control the volume on the TV. I did have an issue with my original remote draining batteries (about every 10 days I had to replace them). However, a quick call to customer service and they sent me a replacement remote very quickly.

Nice little Roku
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I've been a Roku user from many years. This one offers a small form factor and is easy to set up. I like the RF remote. Turned my old plasma into a second smart TV for the den, Includes several little USB cables and adapters to power from the TV or from a wall wart. Doesn't come with any HDMI cables or adapters, so if the HDMI port on your TV faces the rear of the TV and you're doing a wall mount you will most likely need some sort of right angle adapter.

Better than BluRay programming
||Posted . Owned for less than 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I found the Roku stick fairly simple to set up by myself even though I usually get my kid to set up my electronics. Roku provided the programming and I could select the streaming channels I wanted. The setup did involve using a Wi-Fi router and supplying my Email address for each channel which was somewhat aggravating as well a providing credit card info to Roku (for any rental or purchased movies and pay channels). I wanted all free content, as do most cable cutters. There is a large amount of free content out there with some movie repetition within each channel. Some free channels have time-scheduled programming which is what we older folks are used to, or you can binge watch favorite shows. Although some of the free programs and movies seem a bit dated I am still learning how to work with Roku. I have still been using my antenna for local ABC,NBC,CBS and FOX programs, and getting weekend network sports fixes. The combination of free Roku channels and antenna seems like a good mix to offset cable and if I can figure out a way for Roku to supply me with this for free I can drop the antenna since I live 40 miles from a major city and the antenna reception is spotty. The Roku remote was intuitive, well thought out and easy to use. The On/Off button at the top can be programmed to turn on/off the TV. The volume up/down and mute buttons on the side control the TV as well. The channel tiles can be easily rearranged by using the remote. The voice remote turned out to be very useful and worth the few extra dollar upgrade. The initial setup takes a little time and effort but the Roku seems to be a low cost way to replace basic cable( and limited BluRay DVD programming). I've only owned it less than a month, so time will tell how well it holds up, and if I still need an antenna as a supplement.

||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Easy to setup and works great! We use it in our bedroom and enjoy the ability to stream as new cable cutters. Remote is easy to handle and plugs right into an available HDMI port along with USB for power.
