This is my preliminary view. I have the first general beats studio and wanted to try the beats studio 3. They look identical. The sound quality is nearly the same. The noise canceling in the 3 is slightly better. Perhaps the biggest different is that the 3 are not as bass heavy as the first-generation ones. On a side note, I have had the beats for 3 years. I had to replace the ear cups due to wear and tear. I used them for the gym for a little while but then mainly used them when I traveled (plane, car, hotel, etc.). The replacement cups were inexpensive and easy to install. I would not recommend for gym because the cups are not water resistance. The phones are a bit weighted but the ear cups feel comfortable on the ear. If you have the 1st generation or the beats 2.0, then you may not need the beats 3, unless you are one who collects headphones. I got mines for a bit over $200; I used a BB gift card. You can price match from amazon.com and Walmart. Note that price will vary according the color. The black phones tends to be a bit cheaper; these are the ones that I have. I hope this helps. These were a replacement for my Powerbeats and my gosh, even though the Powerbeats were great, I feel I should have just gone with the studios from the start. How effective the active noise cancellation makes it worth the extra money to me! The studios are much louder as well than the Powerbeats!

These Beats are superb!!! Especially in these work from home times! Totally recommend. Purchased in Nov. 2019 and they are still brand new today (June 2020) through daily use by my son. Bought on sale during holiday season.

Great pair of headphones. I use them for the gym almost twice a day 5 days a week and they still look and feel brand new (with minimal maintenance)

Great headphones. Noise cancelling and are wonderful for just rocking out where the noise level is high and you don't want to hear all of the other things going on. I use the mowing on a large tractor with ease.

These headphones are great and the sound is excellent. I highly recommend these over any other headphones, as the sound quality makes you feel like you are truly in a world class studio. Beats by Dr. Dre hit the mark on these!!!!

Bought these for my adult son as a holiday gift to replace some Beats 3's he wore out. He is completely satisfied with them and my wife liked them so much I bought her a pair too.

I have used these headphones weekly since purchasing them in December 2019, and the sound quality is just as amazing as the first day! I will definitely purchase a couple more and give one as a gift!
