A mini tripod good to travel with!

This was a replacement mini tripod. With my old one, the plastic pieces broke when you applied too much pressure to them - worthless. I took this new mini tripod on a European vacation with me and it performed real well, and didn't take up much space in my backpack. I'm glad I had it even for the few photos I needed a tripod for.

    Fair Price for Fair Product

A decent product for a fair price. It is very compact and light, so it will travel well. The legs can only extend in chunks, which could make it unusable on an uneven plane. For larger DSLR cameras I would recommend going with something more sturdy, but it can work if you plan on using it only indoors and on flat surfaces.

    CAREFUL, DON'T PINCH YOURSELF

A very useful, small, portable tripod, BUT: be very careful when you open the legs, its VERY easy to pinch yourself between the legs and the black metal plate on the top. I saw another review that recommended removing it to open the legs farther, but honestly I would do it just for the safety. Other than that, I love this tripod. I modded it to put on a better head, which was very easy and HIGHLY recommended.

Perfect for my Canon SX40 HS

Works great and is compact enough to fit in my motorcycle luggage. Great for the price, have not had any issues. There is another reviewer who gave 1/5 stars for 2 problems. Maybe he didn't read the manual/stickers. You twist the leg poles to lock them, and screw in the handle to tighten the platform. I am guessing that he locked the leg and didn't try to tighten the platform. That would explain both issues. I tightened mine and was hard to even physically force it. Maybe he had a 10lb camera or could of had a defective pod, I dunno.

    Not that sturdy with DSLRs

I wanted something compact and small. While this product states it can support DSLR up to so many pounds, it still becomes top heavy and it not completely sturdy. I'm afraid to use a zoom lens with it. I returned it and opted for a sturdier tripod from Amazon. No hard feelings though. With that said, it would be a great compact tripod for small, digital cameras.

It works, but better options are available now

I've owned this tripod for about 10 years. I was surprised to see that they still make them. The reason I'm writing this review is that I broke it out after shopping for tabletop tripod taller than a few inches and realizing I had the Sunpak in storage. This tripod has three major problems you'll have to deal with: (A) it's extremely light and thus isn't very stable when fully extended; (B) the mechanisms are cheap and unlubricated, so you'd do well to disassemble this and lube the internals before you start using it; and (C) it's not level and has no head leveling adjustments. For A, I'd recommend using the lightest gear possible and perhaps not even considering using it as a fully extended unit, only as a tabletop-style unit. For B, you can disassemble the unit fairly easily (the pan and tilt handle/knob are unscrewable, there's one Philips screws under the pan lock knob, and there's one Philips screw through a hole once you remove the metal pan base stud from the head assembly; you can probably leave the hex stud between the three legs alone) and apply some heavy grease (I used Moly EP black lithium automotive grease which is available at any auto parts store) to the pan base stud, tilt lock clamp, and threads on the tilt handle and pan lock knob. For C, you can apply a blob of plastic-bonding epoxy to the top of the "pointy" part at the front near the visible spring assembly, which will fill the diagonal gap between the top plate and that bottom nub; use a flat file to shave down the epoxy as needed until it holds a camera level. If you do these things, it's a decent cheap tabletop and/or ultra-portable tripod. If you have tabletop use in mind, there are plenty of better options available on the market, but they definitely cost more. If you're on a very tight budget and can deal with the cheap quality, it's not a bad thing to have around once you patch it up, and it's hard to argue with the level of portability it offers (though stability suffers as a result).

Needed a solid, yet compact tripod for an event (I'm an event marketing manager) and this fit the bill. Really sturdy, takes very little space, and has survived many many months of use with even more to follow.

    Not so great for camera

This tripod was a kit that came with the camera i purchased so i figured i would get a decent quality tripod. This is a small easy to use camera but the build quality is terrible. The legs are very unstable for a little digital camera (nikon coolpix l100) and shakes a lot. there are no grips on the bottom of the tripod and it jiggles when you press the camera button. The sliders aren't good either because there is an oily/greasy residue on the outside of the legs when you pull them out. After about 5 or so uses, one of the legs snapped when i was putting the legs back inside of the tripod. since it is a button release, you need some pressure beforehand to push it back in and the tripod couldn't handle it. I suggest that you invest at least $80ish dollars on a decent quality tripod instead of this cheapo tripod. all you are doing to throwing out money where when you invest money in a good tripod that could last for a couple of years. i picked up a Slik 700dx ($170) which is a little overkill for my new camera (canon 60d w/ large lens) but it would last decades

This is GREAT for a light weight camera that will not be manipulated when mounted. If you need to physically adjust the camera when it is on this tripod, I would look at other options.

Before you assume it's about the legs not locking and whatever else people are complaining about it's not that. I had no problem whatsoever on that aspect of this tripod. The base where the camera mounts was shot after a couple of months. It was flawless then one day it just broke. It made the camera lean. The base wouldn't lock in place either. I got this tripod because of the cost. It lasted a couple months, but if you want to do real photographer outside I don't recommend it. If you're wanting to do self portraits off of a kitchen counter or do YouTube Vlogs then it'll be good. Even at maximum height, this tripod wasn't high enough for good portraits. It was flimsy at full height was well. I recommend spending a bit more money and getting a tripod that will do the job right the first time. Live and learn, but do it right the first time. I have a targas tripod now. The height is amazing. It has a built level, the feet of the legs adjust to the ground to level itself out. The way the legs lock is way better. There is also a way to secure a weighted bag or something at the bottom to keep it steady.
