Great body but weak in the head
||Posted . Owned for 7 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. After reading a number of reviews that seems to ridicule the tripod for its low quality, I was able to score a sale price on the item and found myself initially loving it. It felt sturdy, had a nice foam grip that felt solid when held, and had a smooth pan head. So, I went and got a 2nd one and grabbed the last one in stock at that time. I felt so lucky. I was happy with the performance and felt like I got a really good deal. Then one day, I was shooting with a larger lens with a new camera, which couldn't have weighed more than maybe 4 or 5 lbs (while the manual says it has a load capacity of 8 lbs) and while aiming the camera downward from a higher angle, the camera suddenly flipped off and out of its quick release mount. Turns out the small plastic that holds in the screw for the quick release lever is more like a peninsula and didn't have very much support and the minor momentum from tilting the camera up and down was enough to apparently break BOTH tripods. It's also worth mentioning that whe nI purchased the 2nd tripod, the panning was not as smooth as the first and a closer look showed it was just a poor molding or sanding down of the plastic and signs of being cheaply made became more apparent. So what would've been rated 5 stars in the first 4 or 5 months of ownership where I was able to use the tripod for a number of projects, the fact that both tripods broke within the same week did it for me. And, the "lifetime" warranty has a procedure that instructs you to simply mail the product in with proof of purchase and additionally requires that you send the product with a check or money order for $9.95 to cover the cost of shipping and handling. Truth be told that's more than half the price I got the tripod for so if I had purchased it at the regular price, I'd definitely say it's not worth it if you plan to use a full sized DSLR or anything besides maybe a phone. Even though the tripod legs themselves are sturdy along with the rest of the build, the quick release lever and how it's attached is the weakest part of it all but the most important. So not worth risking expensive camera equipment on this tripod.
