It doesn't provide much protection is you drop the iPad mini. However, it does provide a more secure way to grip the iPad to reduce the likelihood of dropping the iPad in the first place. At first I found the "latch" that keeps the case closed to be difficult to operate because I was trying to get my thumbnail under the magnetic latch. Instead, I've found that sliding the magnetic latch is much easier and works every time.

But it makes your iPad difficult to hold in your hand as the flap that covers the screen just hangs there when not in use. The quality is great and has a professional appearance. It has a smart pen holder as well. And the magnetic enclosure is a must. I got it on sale so it was a great deal for me
