Good case but has some problems

I really like the design of this rotating folio. It's easy to use in either the horizontal or vertical position. It fits my iPad Pro 9.7 quite well, and the sound delivery is quite good. However, I have had a couple of problems with my folio. First of all, the case shades the flash on the iPad Pro to such an extent that my flash pictures appear washed out. Second, I have had the folio for only a month now, and the clip that holds it closed broke yesterday. It has a limited lifetime warranty, though, and I will be contacting Targus for a replacement or repair. So long as they make things right, I'll be a happy customer. If I have any problems with the warranty service, I'll post an updated review.

The tab to close case broke after six days. Will be returning it. Otherwise would have been a good case.

    Pretty useful

So, I normally don't like to use cases. (Yes, I like to live dangerously). So when I realized how often I use my iPad, it got me thinking that it really needed a case. Functionality, the swivel is actually useful when changing orientation. Especially when getting it propped up as a stand. The protection coverage is pretty nice. My iPad had fallen a few times in awkward orientations, but the padding on the case kept it safe. The rubber case was quite enough, though the actual cover gives it both coverage (for the screen) and even extra cushioning. The style is pretty nice: it sometimes fools me to think that it's a book.

Not quite for the iPad Pro 9.7"

I wasn't about to pay Apple's extortionist prices for their case and cover and because this was one of the few cases available at launch, I picked it up. First, I'll start with the pros (pun intended): There is a loop on the back of the case that perfectly holds the Apple Pencil. It doesn't get in the way with the case folded back and it seems quite secure. Next, the case seems well made and sturdy (with one exception I'll explain later). I like the texture of the canvas and faux leather exterior and soft, sueded interior. And finally, the cutouts line up nicely, including for the camera and flash and four speakers, as well as for the lightning port, volume buttons, and headphone jack. Now, for the cons, two of which are likely to be a dealbreaker for most. (and the main reasons I knocked off two stars) The biggie is that this case is obviously made for the iPad Air 2, because the magnets don't line up, meaning the wake feature doesn't work AT ALL. The next major issue I have with this the latch to keep the case closed; it takes so much pressure to secure I'm also fairly sure it'll break off in the near future. In fact, it takes so much pressure that the "R" in "Targus" has broken off already. I'm also not a fan of the hole in the back where the case rotates. It leaves the back of my iPad exposed to scratches, which totally defeats the purpose of a case. It's no problem, though; I just put an old iPhone 5 screen protector on the back. Another small issue I have is the cutouts in the case for the four iPad Pro speakers are in the frame that secures the iPad itself. The problem with this is that those leave those area soft and I worry a little that if I grab the case where those cutouts are, the iPad might pop out. I highly doubt it will, but I don't like that the case pulls away like that. Overall, it's a perfectly serviceable case and it does most of what I'd expect a case to do, with the main exception of the wake up function. Unless you REALLY need the ability to rotate your iPad Pro, I'd suggest looking elsewhere.

A bit pricey, but most iPad covers are

$50 is a lot for a cover, which is a basic necessity to avoid damaging an expensive piece of electronics. I really didn't know what a "good cover" should have, but I like this one. It acts as a stand, and allows the ipad to be rotated into landscape mode. It does what it says, protects the screen. I actually like that when it's closed, it looks like a daily planner/book, it just looks good visually.

I travel a lot. I wanted a cover that provided both protection and ease of use. Having just completed my first trip wit it, I can say this cover was the right choice. Moving through the airport, watching my bag getting knocked off a table, sitting in a coach seat trying to use the IPad, this cover performed. Would recommend.

Clasp broke less than 8 months after purchase

This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

The clip is held into its mounting loop with 2 small plastic pins that are molded into the sides. One snapped off after about 8 months of sporadic use. The pressure needed to snap it shut puts too much force on the pins I believe. Targus is replacing it under warranty but wont cross ship. For $50 I wish I went with another product.

I love the design of the case, but my only problem is the clasp does not keep it closed. For that reason only is why I would not recommend it to a friend, but the design I love.

The feel and look are great, but all it is is a cover for your ipad. I think its a bit too bulky even though it has the swivel. I use it and its just fine.

    Sloppy Case

Flimsy TPU/rubber which often slides off of iPad edges during use. I highly doubt “military grade.” Volume and power buttons difficult to access. “Vents” in front of speakers distort sound. Case doesn’t close well so smart on/off doesn’t work well. When closed (even with strap), case buckles allowing anything to get between case and screen if in bag etc —> potential scratching or screen damage. Feels crooked in hand when holding during use in open position. I do like materials other than TPU and the ability to use in landscape or portrait position. I’m returning this item.
