Be forewarned, although portable, this unit is heavy! After a bit of wrestling, I was able to remove it from the shipping materials. There are a few parts, but setup was easier than I thought. The most difficult part of installation was determining where to put the unit. Find a spot near a low window and an electric outlet. Be sure the electric outlet is near the floor. The electric cord measured 55” or so for me; however, the electric cord is a bit curly so it’s probably five feet if it was straight. The unit has wheels so it’s pretty easy to move around. The exhaust hose outlet is 8”. It fits into a window slider that is 20.5” and has two extension pieces. I wanted to put the unit near a 13” window. Again, invest the time to figure out where to put the unit. Rearranging furniture is probably involved. Read the installation instructions. The air conditioner must be plugged into a grounded outlet, three prongs. I did that. After about two minutes, it tripped the breaker. I reset the breaker and then the air conditioner unit, lights and TV stayed on. The instructions said you must wear protective clothing and anti-static gloves. I don’t think anti-static gloves are common in most households, perhaps those should have been included? The lowest temperature is 64 degrees. Set at 64 the unit did a good job of cooling a small living area. The remote control is convenient but has to be used fairly close to the unit so you might as well use the menu on the unit itself. The unit has filters that do need to be cleaned and are reusable. Looking forward to using the sleep setting, only available on the remote, this summer when its 115 degrees. It will keep the bedroom cool without cooling the entire house and hopefully keep the utility bill down. Overall, the TCL air conditioner is exactly as advertised. Easy to setup. Portable, aka rollable and cools a room up to 300 square feet.

This TCL 7000 BTU Smart portable air conditioner, fan and dehumidifier is so versatile, easy to use and works great. This unit is so much more than just a smart air conditioner, which is nice itself, it's also a fan and dehumidifier which makes it useful year round. Fitting the install kit into my window took some work. I have normal windows, nothing odd sized, overlarge or elaborate, just basic double pane horizontal sliding windows. Trying to place the sliding kit in the window either covered the vent hole or left too much space to fill in with the included foam seal. There are instructions to cut the panel if necessary but I was finally able to find a spot to work without the need to cut. Once the panel is installed it's just a matter of connecting the vent tube, plugging it up and turning it on. It can be set up and used without the app from the touchscreen panel on top of the machine. But the app and voice control are so convenient. Noise level is as expected, the night mode helps for sleeping especially if it's in a bedroom. It's early spring so lots of rainy days. The fan and dehumidifier settings are more useful right now. They work to help dry out the house from the humidity of the rain. The cooling of the air conditioner is working well and will be a great comfort in the coming warmer months. I really like the portability of the unit also. It rolls around easily and could be switched to another room , if needed.

Good Prefoming AC to Help Your Room Stay Cool

As the summer heat starts to ramp up, some may want to find a portable air conditioner to help stay cool in their houses. The TCL 7000 BTU Smart Portable Air Conditioner offers many a solution to this problem. When considering a portable air conditioner, you first need to consider the sizing. This system is rated as 7000 BTU. That may not mean much, but it has an equivalency of being able to cool a 300 square foot room. How well it does that, I will discuss later. However, I wanted to test it out in my bedroom which is a bit smaller than that. Set up is fairly easy. You will need to make some considerations before doing it though. The most important thing with this portable AC (as with pretty much and portable unit) is you must have ventilation. This particular unit is a single hose design. What this means is that a single hose hooks up to the back to the unit. It must then vent the air out of the house in some way. Generally this means having the vent go to an open window. All the parts to do this are included with the unit and setting this up is still fairly easy and quick. There are some window configurations it will not with so you might want to make sure it will work before buying. But generally, as long as the window is less than 59 inches (about 5 feet) wide and does not open at an angle, it will likely work. In regards to a single hose, this will be used to push the warmer air out of the room or house. If you don’t have an available room, you will need a hose made either going outside or into the roof to go to the attic. Due to air being pushed out of the room with nothing necessarily to replace the air, this will create a bit of a vacuum in the room. So air from other room with be sucked into the cooler space due to the negative pressure. This may make the unit work a bit harder than a dual vent system, but I felt it needed to be mentioned. Once it is set up, it is ready to use. There is a nice remote control that you can use to activate the system. But once you turn it on, it begins to work. The system really works as a 3-in-1. You get the use of the AC but also get a fan and dehumidifier. This will actually work to pull moisture out of the air and make it cooler for you. The dehumidifier has a reservoir in the unit. If you live in a very humid area, this can cause a bit of a problem. You may need to hook up a hose to the back of the unit for drainage or have to drain the unit regularly to make sure it doesn’t fill up. This is just something extra to consider when placing and operating the unit. The unit operates with two different fan speeds. I personally would have preferred a third fan speed, but this does the job. I was surprised with how quiet the unit seemed to operate as well. Even when running on its highest fan speed, the unit really sounded no louder than a refrigerator. I had no problems sleeping with the unit running in a bedroom. The unit has a reasonable footprint. The unit is roughly 15 inches by 15 inches, so it should be able to fit in most spaces. I will point out that some additional space is required in the back because of the vent line coming from the unit. This may add another foot from the wall, but it still will work in most settings. The unit weighs close to 50 pounds. Moving it room to room was easy because it can just slide on its wheels. However, if you need to move this up and down stairs, you may need some help getting the job done. The unit is rated to work in rooms up to 300 square feet. I did experiment using it in a room with an elevated ceiling. It was able to make it cooler in the room, but it did not do a great job and got overworked a bit. So when looking at the 300 square feet, assume that is for a room with standard ceiling heights. In the end, I was pleased with how well the unit performed. The room got cooler and worked as expected. However, there are still a couple of issues to point out. Again I would have preferred a third fan speed. Also being a single vent system may be an issue for some. There is some work to get the unit set up in a room too. While it is portable, I really did not want to keep moving this room to room as I went other places in my house. And each room that you move it too needs to have a way to hook the vent up too. For that, I mostly just wanted to keep it in one spot. I think the biggest issue may be related to where people live as well. In high humidity areas, this unit will take a lot of water out of the air with the dehumidifier mode. The unit can handle almost 9 gallons of water per day. Unless a drain hose can be hooked up to the unit, you may have to drain the unit a few times per day. Over a long summer, that may be annoying. I am not sure this is best suited for places like Texas unless a drain hose can be always attached. In conclusion, the TCL 7000 BTU Portable Air Conditioner worked well. The room was cooler and comfortable compared to other areas of the house. Even though it is portable, I still felt is was more of a hassle to move room to room, but each person can decide that for themselves. For me though, the process of removing the vent line and setting that back up each time I wanted to move it was more trouble than it was worth. Also I think in high humidity areas, there could be a lot of daily maintenance associated with this unit. Then it becomes a trade of between the portable AC and perhaps a high end oscillating fan. But the unit does what it says. If you are in the market and want a portable AC, this unit will perform well. I recommend this product for those in the market.

    Good basic, compact air conditioner

This TCL 7000 BTU Smart Portable Air Conditioner is a good, basic air conditioner that cools or dehumidifies rooms as large as 300 square feet. Its major benefit is its compact size, which allows it to be rolled into place near a window and not take up much space at all. At about 50 pounds in weight, it is easy to lift or roll. Pros: • Compact size is great for rooms without much space, but cools larger rooms • Two filters easy to clean • Functions work great • Good remote control • App works well to control the unit Cons: • Only 2 fan speeds: somewhat loud and louder • Mounting weatherstripping not enough for wide/tall windows • App does not pair to Google Home without Matter • Matter pairing doesn't give all functions This TCL unit does a great job cooling down a room, and the hose that comes with it is quite long, meaning it can be placed somewhat further away from a window than you might expect. I've used the unit for a week now, and found it quite good. Setup was fairly easy, and the air conditioner comes with a 3-panel baffle to put in your window that can extend from 20.5 to about 60 inches. The kit also includes some weatherstripping for the top of the window frame and bottom of the window itself, and some thicker foam for tucking into the open portion where the lower window is raised above the upper pane's frame. My window is 48 inches wide, and I was disappointed to find that the included weatherstripping did not extend the to 48 inches. I ended up having to get some more from a nearby store. If you're looking for basic cooling with a remote control and app support, you'll find it here. The unit is easy to use with the included remote or pair and control with the Smart Life app the company wants you to use. I'm not sure why they don't use the TCL Home app that most of their other appliances use. That said, this is not a feature-rich, customizable appliance. You get 2 fan speeds, which they call low and high, but I would call medium and high. There are 3 modes: fan, dehumidify, and cool. There is a sleep timer you can set from 30 minutes to 24 hours. That's about it. And speaking of the app, the functions are all controllable within, but pairing with Google Home is not possible, because the app shows up as not having any compatible devices. This air conditioner does come with a Matter QR code on the side, and after a few tries, I was able to get it set up with Matter within Google home, but the only functionality present was On/Off and fan speed, no temperature control. So that means I use the app to control the device and if I want to add it to Google Home routines, I can turn it on or off only. I assume (and hope) the missing functionality will be added in a future software/firmware update. Until then, I'm satisfied with the current app functionality and remote control. Bottom line: if you're looking for a compact, portable air conditioner to cool a space and offer some remote/app control, this is an excellent choice. If you'd like a more premium experience with multiple fan speeds and full-featured smart home integration, look elsewhere.

This TCL 7000 BTU Smart Portable Air Conditioner a fairly powerful portable AC with a few nice features and some flaws. While unboxing, the packaging got stuck in top of box making it more difficult than it should have been to unpack. Contents included the A/C unit, the venting tube, the window insert, some foam for sealing the window, some miscellaneous mounting screws and the instructions. Setting up the A/C wasn’t really plug & play. It comes with a 3-part window insert that can fill somewhat large vertical openings. If you have a smaller window, like me, you may need to sawcut the middle piece to get the exhaust connection to fit. Instructions say to cut the piece with the hole but that wouldn’t clear the blockage. I had to do this. Not difficult if you have the tools. The window insert is just 3 pieces of white vinyl. It would be nice if they had some rubber on the edges to create a better seal and keep it from sliding. There is some foam included in the box for sealing openings, but this foam is typically not very durable. Instructions say it needs 18” of clearance on all sides to function properly. That is a lot of space in a small house. In terms of use, the controls on the unit are fairly clean. They are in a flat panel that gives no physical feedback when they are pressed. You just get a beep. I was surprised that there are only 2 fan speeds. Most A/C’s I’ve used have 3. There are the typical 3 modes – Fan, Dehumidify and Cool. Sometimes, pressing a button doesn’t seem to do anything. Fan only is fairly quiet. Cool and dehumidify are both quite noisy. This might not be an issue in a basement or a larger room but it’s not great in a smaller room. The opening where the air comes out is covered by some louvers. These close when the unit is off preventing things from falling in. When on, they can either be stationary or move up and down to spread out the cool air. Fan strength is strong on high. The remote is very clean looking and functions well, even at a distance. Some of the icons are not obvious and it will take a little time to get used to. No removable bucket for water collection. You need to do a direct drain or drain from a plug at the bottom of the unit. This is my biggest issue with this unit. I would not get this for a carpeted room or for any room in which you wouldn’t want to get the floor wet. There should be a removable bucket like I’ve had in all the dehumidifiers I’ve owned. There is an app that you can download to control the A/C. I’ve tried to connect it to my A/C a bunch of different ways and tried the written troubleshooting instructions, but it is not working. I’m not sure what is going on, but I will try and contact customer support and get it resolved. Conclusion, as my title says, it’s a good A/C unit with some issues. Right now, it’s a bit too cold to use it consistently but it worked well for the 1/2 day I used it. I can’t say this is an outstanding, “must buy” product, but it should work fine for most people.

This unit cools my bedroom quickly and seems like it will be able to move to my office when I need it to without much work. Make sure you pay attention to the instructions for app setup as it’s not supported in the TCL home app. There’s a sticker on the side for connecting with Matter ad Best Buy says it’s Home Kit compatible, but it won’t connect. I bought this because I wanted an AC that I can use in the Apple Home app, but it doesn’t connect. In 2025, this is extremely disappointing. It’s not whisper quiet but it’s not louder than any window air conditioner. The big benefit being that without half of the unit hanging out the window, it will last longer if drained and maintained properly.
