DO NOT BUY THIS TV! At 3 months, the remote stopped working. Did a factory reset and now I can't get past the pairing screen. I have spent 5 hours trouble shooting. Many complaints about this issue online. Bought a universal remote and that didn't work either. Called TCL to file a warranty claim - again have only had this for a few months - and the customer service support was ridiculous. Will take about 2 months for a warranty to be completed and my tv fixed or a new one given to me. RIDICULOUS! Going back to Samsung where they at least have great customer service!

I'm really upset by this TV. It works fine as a smart TV, but when hooked up to a device over HDMI, the picture stretches outside the bounds of the screen. Trying to adjust the overscan on the TV does not fix this. I got this TV for my kid to play Xbox on and it cuts off the edges on all 4 sides of the screen. I'm attaching pictures. Great TV if you *only* use it as a smart TV and don't hook anything up to it. If you want to use it for other things, forget about it and buy something else. The Nintendo Switch at least let me bring it down to 96% resolution, but the Xbox has no option for this. But it should not even be necessary. If it is a 1080p TV. It should display the things plugged into it properly. I bought two of these to put in my kid's room and in the bedroom and it completely ruined what I was going to use them for.

    An Above Average Budget TV

Overall Impressions While most of my displays are OLED, I was curious to see how this 40‑inch TCL Q35F QLED would perform as a smaller, more affordable option for my wife’s home office. I wanted something that could replace an aging 32-inch 720P TV and handle streaming and everyday use without feeling super cheap or underwhelming. The Q35F ends up being a surprisingly solid little TV. The QLED direct LED lit panel gives it richer color and better contrast than most 1080p edge-lit sets, and Fire TV is smooth and easy to use and live with. It’s not trying to compete with more expensive displays, but for a bedroom or office setup, it does what it needs to do. I can’t recommend this TV for modern console gaming, as it doesn’t offer 4K, 120Hz, or any HDMI 2.1 ports. You won’t be getting the full experience from a PS5 or Xbox Series X with this display, but it’s totally fine for light or older generation gaming. Also, sound quality is decent for smaller rooms, though you’ll probably want a soundbar if you’re trying to fill a bigger space Build Quality and Appearance The Q35F looks clean and modern with slim bezels and sturdy feet. Build quality is better than expected for the price, and I didn’t notice any flex or issues with the unit during setup or wall mounting. It’s simple, but it feels decently put together. Wall mounting the TV took about 10 minutes on a single stud wall mount. The TV is very light and can be mounted just about anywhere, by a single person, without a problem. Connectivity You get 2 HDMI ports, USB, optical audio, and an antenna input. If you’re like most people, you won’t use any of these and just use the FireTV to stream your content, but they’re nice to have. There are no HDMI 2.1 ports here, but it does what it advertises, and Fire TV integration makes setting up things like your Wi-Fi or scanning for channels super easy. I was able to easily connect the TV to my wireless mesh network and start streaming Netflix, Hulu and Prime Video without any issues. Usability and Features Fire TV is one of my favorite operating systems for Smart TVs. It’s fast, simple, and offers a huge app library. Setup was easy as you just scan a QR code with your phone to sign in to your Amazon account and the TV does the rest. Alexa voice control works fine, and navigation is idiot-proof. The remote is functional but feels cheap, but again, this is a budget TV. Display Quality and Performance For a 1080p QLED, the picture is better than I thought it would be. Colors are vibrant, skin tones look natural, and brightness is good enough for most well lit rooms. Motion handling is solid for a 60Hz panel. Movies and shows look clean, vibrant and have minimal motion blur. Black levels are very good, as the TV is direct‑lit, and you won’t see any of the glow you’d get from an edge-lit set. I don’t recommend turning on Motion Rate 120 unless you enjoy the “soap opera effect” that it causes, and I’m still not sure why manufacturers insist on including this feature on their TVs. Casual gaming looks fine, especially on devices like a Nintendo Switch or older consoles, but again, this isn’t the TV you want if you’re looking to take advantage of modern 4K/120Hz hardware. Sound Quality The speakers are fine for a smaller room. Dialogue is clear and stereo separation is decent, but like most cheaper TVs, it struggles to fill larger rooms and the bass is lacking. A soundbar that takes advantage of HDMI ARC is a worthwhile upgrade if you want fuller audio. Pros Good image quality for a 1080p set Fire TV is fast and easy to use Good brightness and decent motion handling for a 60hz panel Clean, modern design with slim bezels Contrast is good for an LED display Cons Not ideal for console gaming (no 4K, 120Hz, or HDMI 2.1) Remote feels cheap Sound is lacking for larger rooms

BOTTOM LINE: The TCL 40Q35F 1080p QLED Smart TV can be an excellent choice as a second TV used in bedroom, kids room or finished attic. The picture is very clear and detailed but will lose color definition when viewed off-center. The Wi-Fi connects quickly and is stable maintaining connectivity. The stereo sound is very basic but adequate with numerous user selectable EQ options for fine tuning. But adding a sound-bar will aways be a better choice. Included are various streaming services with the ability to add additional streaming channels. Note that some additional streaming services could not be added until you create or sign into an Amazon account. With the default applications, there are hundreds of free streaming channels available that is a major plus. And using an external antenna worked well too for pulling in our local OTA channels. I did upgrade to a swivel pedestal adjustable height stand, versus the included low footed option. That allows raising the TV sufficiently high and rotate as needed for acceptable viewing angle. The scaled down base plate will also permit placement on smaller tables or stands. Similar to upgrading with a sound-bar, aftermarket stands can be a worthwhile investment for certain environments. ISSUE: The only problem I encountered was with the TCLtv+ streaming service. That would intermittently fail with “unable to connect to the server” when watching a channel, powered off, then turning back on the next day. It would not connect stating “please check you network status in network settings and try again”. The only resolution was removing AC power, waiting a minute, then re-plugging to perform a non-factory TV reset. Annoyingly, it has happened four times in a month. (Note that this issue is not a home internet network connectively issue. All other streaming services were accessible, network was active with excellent TV connectivity, and only the TCLtv+ was failing.) RATING: After using for over a month, I believe the TCL 40Q35F 1080p QLED Smart TV earned itself a solid 4-Star Rating for being an overall cost-effective 2nd HDTV or a primary HDTV if you are on a budget. Had it not had its own application (TCLtv+) failures, it would be a 5-Star Rating. Perhaps a future firmware upgrade may resolve that issue.

I needed a budget priced tv for my office and wanted one that had a good streaming platform attached. That’s where the TCL 40-inch Q35F with Fire TV comes in. Because this TV is not for critical viewing, 1080p resolution is fine. Being a budget TV the Q35 has two HDMI ports, one USB-A port, a LAN port, Optical digital output, an analog AV adaptor and a headphone jack. The HDMI 1 port is ARC as well. Included in the box with the TV, were two boomerang feet with screws and a nicely equipped remote control. The remote has a microphone to use speech to text when searching for programs. It also has short cut buttons for Prime Video, Netflix, Disney+, Amazon Music, TCL TV and Apps, though none of the buttons are backlit. The setup was very easy if you have an Amazon prime account. Just sign into your account during setup and let the Fire TV do the rest of the setup from there. Once the Fire TV has completed the setup you can download your favorite apps and start to enjoy the TV. The Fire TV interface moves very fast between different apps. There are standard mount points on the back of the TV for wall mounting. As for the picture, it is very clear with streaming services and cable TV. The colors are vibrant and clear and pleasing to look at. As this is my office TV, I mainly watch YouTube or regular broadcast TV, and it looks great. This is a very good choice for a bedroom, small living room or office space and I would recommend it for those purposes.

I was skeptical at first as it was a good deal. Turns out, the tv exceeded my expectations as the image on tv was nice and crisp. The sound is very good, had to set it to movie sound mode as it sounded better than the default but default was decent. Picture quality was nice and bright. The tv for a 40 inch was extremely light in weight. Which is a plus. It makes a great bedroom tv. I used to have a 50 inch tv from 2015 and it was too big and bulky. The only small thing I can comment about the tv is there is some very light slight lag when back in the Home Screen and navigating around the menu and apps. But it's not terrible.

Picture is great and easy to set up. Since using this as a WiFi tv found it easy to set up what apps I wanted to watch. A modest sound bar really helps since these flat screens do not come with the best speakers.

The TCL 40Q35F is one of the more interesting budget tier TVs released in 2025 because it brings QLED quantum dot color, a bezel less metal design, and Fire TV integration to a 40 inch 1080p panel at a very low price point. Panel & Display Technology Resolution & Panel Type • 1080p Full HD resolution—not 4K, but sharp enough for a 40" screen at typical viewing distances. • QLED Quantum Dot layer enhances color saturation and brightness uniformity compared to standard LED TVs in this price class. This is pretty rare for a budget TV – so nice job TCL! This is the single biggest “premium” upgrade over typical 1080p sets. • Direct Lit LED backlight (not edge lit) provides more consistent brightness across the panel, though it lacks local dimming zones. Color & Brightness Performance • Quantum Dot implementation delivers richer color volume than typical 1080p sets. • Customer reviews consistently highlight vibrant colors and deep blacks for the price point. • Brightness is rated highly by users, making it suitable for moderately bright rooms. Motion Handling • TCL advertises Motion Rate 120, which is a motion interpolation/processing metric—not a native 120Hz panel. • Native refresh rate is 60Hz. • For sports and general streaming, motion clarity is solid for this class. Audio Performance • Uses Dolby Audio processing for improved clarity and spatial enhancement. • Built in speakers are rated average, but like nearly all TVs, the sound will benefit significantly from pairing with a soundbar. Smart TV Platform & Connectivity Fire TV OS • Fully integrated Amazon Fire TV platform with access to 700,000+ movies and shows. • Supports: o Netflix, Hulu, Disney+, Max, Prime Video, etc. o Alexa voice control via included remote. o Apple AirPlay 2 for casting from iOS devices. Wireless & Ports • Wi Fi 5 for stable streaming performance. • 2× HDMI ports, including 1× HDMI ARC for soundbars/receivers. • USB port for media playback. • Bluetooth for private listening via headphones. Build Quality & Design • FullView bezel less metal design gives it a premium look uncommon in the budget category. • Lightweight and easy to mount or place on a dresser—something many reviewers appreciated. Performance Evaluation Strengths • Outstanding color performance for a 1080p TV thanks to QLED. • Excellent brightness uniformity due to direct lit backlight. • Fire TV OS is fast, intuitive, and well supported. • Bezel less metal chassis looks far more premium than the price suggests. • Very strong value for the money! Limitations • No HDR support—unusual for a QLED panel, but expected at this price. • Only two HDMI ports, which may be limiting for gamers + streaming boxes + sound systems. • 60Hz native refresh rate—not ideal for high frame rate gaming. • Audio is serviceable but not impressive without a soundbar. This is the main reason I have it 4 stars vs 5. Final Verdict The TCL 40Q35F is a value optimized QLED TV that delivers excellent color, strong brightness, and a premium design at a budget price. While it lacks HDR and has limited HDMI connectivity (2), its Fire TV integration, Quantum Dot color, and direct lit uniformity make it one of the best 1080p 40 inch TVs released in 2025 for everyday streaming, bedrooms, offices, and secondary setups. If you want a small, affordable, high color quality TV, this one punches well above its weight.

Nice thin bezels for this 40 inch. Very easy to setup and it’s very swift on WiFi. The sound is loud and not muffled. Perfect for the bedroom or game room. The backlighting is bright out the box, no adjustments needed so with all lights off, it’s good for a night light lol. Although it’s 1080p, the Qled level gives a perfect picture as if you are watching 4K. The colors pop like they should and the darks are dark, meaning it doesn’t distract on the dark screens, like no ghosting, like it’s not a faded black look. And a cool feature, it has Bluetooth, and if u have an iPhone, it has AirPlay 2, for like sharing. I was more surprised by the speed. I didn’t need a wire hookup during setup or connect a streaming device, all TV, all on WiFi. The interface is basic and very user friendly. The remote is also clear and not cluttered. Buttons are easy to find basically. Also the sound has more voice clarity and that is suited well for a bedroom with no sound bar. You will enjoy this TV, the picture quality, speed (120 motion rate), and features makes this 40 inch fun!

I recently purchased this television and have been using it for a few weeks now. Overall, I’m pleased with my decision. The picture quality is impressive, with vibrant colors and good contrast that make movies and shows enjoyable to watch. The smart TV features work smoothly, and I appreciate how easy it is to access all my streaming apps without needing additional devices. Setup was straightforward and took less than 30 minutes. The sound quality is decent for built-in speakers, though I do plan to eventually add a soundbar for a more immersive experience. The remote is intuitive and responsive, which makes navigation simple. One minor drawback is that the interface can occasionally be a bit slow when switching between apps, though this hasn’t been a major issue. For the price point, this TV offers excellent value. It handles everything I need for daily streaming, occasional gaming, and watching sports. I would recommend it to anyone looking for a reliable TV without breaking!

This TCL 40" Q35F QLED TV has been a huge improvement over my old 10-year-old 32" TV. The screen size alone makes a big difference, but the picture quality is on another level. Colors are brighter, the image is much sharper, and everything looks more detailed. Watching Thursday Night Football on this TV was awesome. The motion was smooth, the field colors really popped, and it felt much more immersive than my old setup. The Fire TV interface is fast and easy to use, and setup was quick and straightforward. Overall, this TV is an excellent value and a major upgrade. It’s perfect for anyone coming from an older TV and wanting better picture quality and a great viewing experience.

Bought this for my Aunt as an early Christmas gift because her last TV stopped working. Unboxing and Physically setting the TV was easy. The TVs picture quality I'd say is good for its price. Biggest pain point of this TV is the inital Fire TV setup. Its not difficult its just time consuming and requires an amazon account. Thats just my biggest issue with it. Aside from that if you have external devices that connect with HDMI you should be good to just plug them and switch over to the input. For its price its a solid TV. Great for like a bedroom if you just watching some TV or the news or movies. Worse part is the Fire T setup and navigation in my opinion.

Looks great for the price i paid. Just a tv for my daughters room and figured id rather grab a qled 40in than a 43in not qled for a little more. Happy with my choice, very light as well. Remote is quite long but has seemed to help my daughter not losse the remote as much as her last one. Also tv is loud i only have it at volume 8-12 which is barely up the max valume bar so not sure what the max number is assuming over 50.
