Descent TV for bedroom use
||Posted . Owned for 8 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Decent basic/entry level smart Roku TV. Decent screen resolution, sound was ok until it started cutting in/out and speakers buzzing (rarely ever use at loud volume). Power button caved in within a year of use. Asides from these things, it’s a good bedroom TV, would not use as a main living room TV unless I had to. Low price is fair for this TV.

This TV constantly reboots itself. CONSTANTLY.
||Posted . Owned for 7 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. At around the 6 month mark, this television decided it hated being a TV. It doesn't matter what I'm doing, or whether it's connected to the internet, or what hdmi input it's on. It doesn't matter if I'm in an app. It's done this on the reset screen while I'm trying to set it up for use, after the 10 THOUSANDTH TIME resetting it to factory defaults, before I even reach the part where it asks for network info. It does this just chilling on the home screen. It does this when I'm watching cable on both HDMI and AV. It does this when using ANTENNA TV. This TV just really, really, REALLY seems to LOVE blacking out. I have a narcoleptic television. After about 30 minutes or less of use, my TCL 43" roku TV will abruptly go black, the LED standby light will go solid and bright, and then it will reboot to the home screen. It will do this over, and over, and over, until it's doing it every couple of minutes or LESS, until I give up trying to use it. Here's what I've tried so far: 1. Rebooted. Did nothing. I cannot tell you how many times I've restarted this thing, both from menu, and just unplugging, waiting x number of minutes/hours/overnight, and trying again. Nothing. 2. Hard factory reset everything. Soft factory reset everything. Both through menu, and through the reset button. Many, many, many times. 3. Check for updates. Also, updated through USB stick following prompts. No change. Software version build is currently 9.2.0, build 4502-30. 4. Changed internet network/connection type. I have a dual-band ATT Uverse internet. I actually went out and BOUGHT A SEPARATE DUAL BAND ROUTER that I KNOW is high-power and not dropping the signal, as I've been monitoring the thing while my TV is doing its weird blackout song-and-dance. I connected the TV through that, both 2.4ghz and 5ghz bands, both with ethernet cable and with wifi. No change. Continues to reset itself. It says signal strength is always 'excellent' for wifi. I don't believe at this point that it's an issue with internet connectivity. 5. Unplugged. Held down the power button to drain 'static charge.' Nothing changed. Did so again, held down the buttons for over 2 minutes. Plugged back into a completely different outlet. No change. Unplugged, hit reset, held it down while plugging back in. No change. Also reset and unplugged, back in, reset again, zip zero nada nil nyet. 6. Tried resetting it and setting it up as store mode instead of home mode. Ignored all prompts for internet. Watched about 5 minutes successfully on my cable box. Crashed, blackscreen, reboot. Same. 7. Replaced ALL HDMI CABLES. Twice. No change. 8. Replaced the power strip. Twice. 9. Reset network connections. More times than I can count. 10. Found out about this great glitch with nintendo switches that cause this phenomena in these specific TCL televisions. Too bad I don't own one. No one in our house does. We have a house, not an apartment, so there's no one within range that could be causing this issue for weeks now, even at odd hours of the night. 11. Prayed. Didn't work, but it was worth a shot. 12. Moved it to different rooms during the duration of this fun waste of a week and a half. Nothing seems to fix the problem. It just really, really wants to glitch out. 13. I've changed the time from automatic to manual. Time clock confusion doesn't appear to be the problem either. Also auto power saving is off, bandwidth saver is off, so there's no reason it should be turning itself off or disconnecting. 14. I've taken the batteries out of the remote and used only the mobile app. Doesn't make a difference, so it's not the remote sending random glitchy signals. ' 15. Here's the super weird thing. I plugged in my amazon fire stick and had it playing when it rebooted itself, and when I was able to get back to that screen, it had apparently kept running during the downtime. So whatever the TV is doing, it's not communicating to any of the inputs that it just went down for the count. I don't know if this is relevant information but it's sure confusing. Before, when I would turn off the TV, and turn it back on, the stream on my fire stick had 'paused' itself and would resume where it left off. I don't know what else to do or try. I bought this thing in May of THIS YEAR and it was FINE until this past 3 weeks. My car is small, so hauling it back to Best Buy really isn't an option for me, and at this point I don't think having GeekSquad come out and briefly look at it will do much. I desperately want to return or replace this horrible brick'd television. I'm strapped for cash at this point. Christmas just happened. Did I mention I couldn't let the kids watch Christmas movies because the TV wouldn't stop blackscreen-rebooting itself long enough for Rudolph to save the day? Because that was a thing. This is horrible. It's unusable. At this point it's basically a very expensive brick. I can't afford to replace it. It's our only TV. We bought this to replace a 'dumb' TV that broke earlier this year, and it was a splurge at the time but it seemed like a great deal. WHATEVER YOU DO. DO NOT BUY A TCL TELEVISION! OR A ROKU TELEVISION! YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR.
