Very nice tv, doesn't actually have 120hz though
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.This tv has a great picture, the roku tv is very easy to use, and there are lots of different settings to optimize your image. The reason I'm docking this one star is the one setting that is missing however, which is the "120hz Clear Motion Index". It is listed in both the product description and the specs for the 5 series, but is not present in the menu. I had that setting on my old tv, and it was a big reason why I chose this one. I'll probably just end up keeping it because the picture is still a big upgrade, but definitely disappointed

Nothing else comes close for the money. I grabbed it thinking it might be a price error. Yeah, it's my 1st true HD (past 720p at least) so I may be easily amazed. But this is a steal!

Amazing Screen for Use as a Huge 4K Computer Monit
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I was shopping for a PC monitor upgrade and saw multiple web discussions about how the TCL 4 and 5 series 4K TVs can be used as amazing, inexpensive computer displays. I'm extremely pleased with the quality of this screen for that purpose. It was relatively easy to connect this screen to my PC via HDMI and I'm getting beautiful 4K 60 Hz output with crisp text (I'm using a Nvidia 1060 6GB graphics card). Note that you'll need to adjust a few settings on the TV (turn on "gaming mode", enable HDMI 2.0) to get the best image, as discussed online in various places. One minor inconvenience with using this TV as a computer display is it will not power off and wake with the PC as a traditional monitor would. It's possible to set it up to power off soon after the computer stops sending out video, but I've found it necessary to hit the power button for the TV to get video back once the PC wakes up. Another thing worth noting is that this screen is so big that if you're sitting within 3 or 4 feet of it, there will be some minor but noticeable dimming on the far edges of the picture. It doesn't bother me much at all but some users might not like that.

Great TV, bad quality control

Here's why: Ordered this TV a few weeks ago, it was out of stock. Was able to pick up in a few days. Got it home, unboxed and setup. I was very impressed initially. It lived up to all the expert reviews etc. BUT then after a while I noticed a defect. It was noticeable in dark scenes and when the screen was black. There were very noticeable bright blotches in all 4 corners of the TV! It wasn't as noticeable in bright scenes, but regardless I knew they were there and I couldn't just live with it. So I went to exchange it a few days later after work. My nearest Best Buy is about 30 miles one way, 60 round trip. It was our first snow storm of the winter and traffic was terrible. I was not a happy camper. Best Buy was great! Exchanged it without hesitation. I was happy. Drove through the storm again in stop and go traffic. Immediately went to unboxing and setting up the replacement. The second I turned it on I realized that this one was also defective! Only something different on this one. The right side of the picture did not fill the entire screen. So there was about a half an inch black bar on the right side of the screen. I was fuming! Tried a factory reset, turning on/off and unplugging. Still there. (Both TV's came in pristine looking boxes with no signs of shipping damage). So I immediately went online and got in a live chat with customer support. After a few troubleshooting measures, they determined that this one was also defective and they would send out a replacement. I said that if I was going to drive another 60 miles round trip and waste my own gas to bring this one back, then I would be exchanging it for a more reputable brand. Customer support has been good, thus far, They were very kind and helpful. This was a couple days ago, so I have not yet received the replacement. When I receive it and test it for some time, I will come back and write an update. Now with that being said...despite those issues, I was actually quite impressed with this TV! The picture quality, the Roku platform etc. Everything was spot on. If the 3rd replacement functions properly and lasts, I will be very happy. I think that's the major downfall to these budget brands, the features may be great but sometimes quality control suffers. Stay tuned....

Great Value TV

Trying to figure out which ones are actually free and which ones are garbage. After calibrating the TV according to Rtings.com the picture quality looks great streaming netflix @ 4k. Video games look even better.

You Should Buy This TV

I have run it through some very action packed movies and I am thrilled with the color and contrast of this TV. Best Buy even honored their low price guarantee when this unit dropped to $319 from $349 It originally retailed for $379.

Manual was scant. Picture is really good until you get off of center line then it washes out fast the more you move left or right.

I’ve had a dead TV for over 3 weeks, Roku won’t fi
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Been dealing with Roku for over 3 weeks trying to get this dead tv replaced/repaired, I still have no working TV. It is a great TV til it dies less than 90 days after purchase and Roku won’t fix/replace it under their stated warranty terms. They will tell you every time you call that a replacement will arrive in 5-7 business days, but nothing ever ships nor do they provide you with a tracking number. They also like to use excuses like “there were storms in the area of our warehouse, so we did not ship it”. Buy Roku products at your own risk!

Bad sound and picture quality

Sales rep touted the quality and they are no where near expectations. Already looking for alternative methods of improving which is going to run my cost up. Almost sounds as if one is blown. Picture quality is good only when you are directly in front. Get to the side and screen virtually disappears. Unfortunately I’m 7 days out of my return period.

Good Value for Annoying TV
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Good value for the price if you can put up with the stupidly bright status light (it can be turned off when the TV is off through a setting change) and the constant advertising for various streaming services on the home page even when the TV isn't connected to the internet. Also, be careful about letting it connect if you're on a metered data plan. It burned through about 1 GB of my monthly data in a few hours (I wasn't watching anything) before I figured out how to use it without an internet connection.

The TV does not contain any sort of intrusive or pop-up ads. There is recommended content that appears on the Home screen. Additionally, any commercials or ads that occur in streaming channels is actually controlled by the individual streaming channels. We're glad you were able to find the setting to turn off the Standby LE. This setting can by found by going to Home>Settings>System>Power>Standby LED>OFF. Additionally, it is important to remember that if you have a device connected to the Internet, even if you are not streaming, it is still communicating with the Internet and will in-turn use data. Flickering screen

It has a good quality picture and I love the tv except it seems like it's on a death spiral. Today, 8 days in, it flashed static white for about 20 seconds then straightened up. I'm concerned because I'm on a small disabilty check and can't afford to strike out on any purchase. I will be returning this Monday.

Internal circuitry issue
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.If the screen were in 5 sections, the 4th section from the left, and about 7 inches wide from top to bottom of panel, the power supply for that section switched itself on while the set was powered off. When turned on that section was turned off while the other 4 sections were turned on. Tried most things. Then I unplugged set for several minutes, plugged back in and section synced up with the others again. I returned to store. Seemed to me a future problem in it's infancy. The employees at customer services were only worried if the set turned on. They either didn't care or were indifferent to the problem or circumstance for the return. They probably put it back out for resale as "open box". So if you live in Clearwater, Fl. beware!

Good looks not so much in the brains
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.First off the TCL 43 5 series is a great-looking TV but once you get past the looks you realize the cast features for Google Cast are not great Roku TV has lots of bugs and the delayed voice synchronization issues with Dolby Digital are unbearable playing games like Call of Duty are absolutely terrible the sync issue between the sound and the visual is just unbearable I know this is more of a Roku issue than it is TCL but there's no way around it TCL fix your TVs
