This is our second TCL TV. The price was very good, it's easy to set up and use, and the picture and sound are good. It has lots of built-in streaming options.

    Tv great/service poor

Normally wouldn’t write a review, but this had to be done. So I purchased a 49” TCL Tv on July of last year, brought it home, set it up! Worked great! I love the ease of use, picture is just fine, set up was painless. A week into my Tv, I had noticed ghost like bar riding up my screen. I had thought that it was just coming from my Amazon Firestick, but after troubleshooting, and eliminating the possibility of a “ground loop” issue, I had determined that it was a factory defect. I spend a lot of time working so I sat on it for some time, but I had finally reached out to TCL and the customer service was kind, but I couldn’t get any service or replacement because I didn’t have a receipt. I even went back to Best Buy to attempt to retrieve a copy, but they were “unable” to locate it. Even though I gave them an approximate time, register and exact date. I spend a lot of money at Best Buy, but this was the first time I had an actual issue and was not helped. So I’m stuck with a faulty tv, on a warranty that I paid for, and wasn’t honored. Shame on TCL and Best Buy.

I purchased this TV from my local Best Buy store last week and it has been great! The picture quality is A1 and the Roku interface is the best smart TV platform available. I replaced a 1080p 32" Samsung with this and I am now looking to replace the rest of my TVs with these.

    Sound Ummm!!!

Just purchased 49 " TCL and the Sound is not the greatest. The sound on my Son's 32 inch 2015 model is better. I"m use to only having sound on 6 and 15 if I want sound loud. I was afraid to face this fact for a TV I just purchased but in order for you to hear at a basic rate it needs to be 27 -30 and loud has to be about 35. This is a shame. I just bought my mother a 43 inch Toshiba and the sound is great on 5-6 and really loud on 15 really. The sound is suppose to be Dolby +. I am not happy at all about this. Best buy had no real 50 inch options this Black Friday so I had to spend more for a 50 inch than the 55 inch Sharp door buster this year. Last year's 50 inch door buster was great 179.00 2160 4k uhd Roku. I'm not sure whether it had hdr. I think it did thinking about it and I'm sure the sound had to be far better than what I have. Other than the sound it makes an OK tv for a large to medium size bedroom.

Hello, While most customers report good experience with the sound on their TV, we understand that different people have different preferences. The sound level of different types of content is dictated by the content provider and even varies from channel to channel. Additionally, while with TV is capable of Dolby + pass through, the TV speakers themselves are not Dolby +. your optical cable to make sure that it is not damaged in any way, and possibly check the audio settings. If you would like us to look into this for you to see if there are any recommendations we can offer to improve your experience, we would be more than happy to do so. I bought the this TCL TV back in August and am ready to review it. It runs like an absolute charm and I’ve had no problems playing my Xbox One X in 4K. Would definitely recommend for anyone looking for an affordable 4K gaming TV.

I have had this TV for 2 days now and love it so far. I have 3 Roku boxes before and loved the interface and now that the OS is on this TV makes it better. The OS is fast and clean and the streaming quality is great. I live in the country so I only get about 15MB download and so far I have watched several 4K movies on this TV. I don't have any devices hooked up to it yet so don't know about the HDMI 2.2 but I will tell you that I love the fact that I can put a USB drive in and be able to pause live TV for up to 90 minutes. That feature is great. For the price, this is a great TV.

    Came with defective control board

This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

About five hours after I started using this TV, one of the three HDMI ports (and the only one with ARC support) stopped working - it would not receive a signal. This created a huge annoyance. First, I had to confirm I wasn't doing anything wrong, and go through all the usual steps myself (reset the TV, etc.) Then, I had to call TCL tech support and go through all their steps. After that didn't work I had to take a picture of the SN and model number, and the receipt, and email it to them. Long story short, eleven days after I bought the TV, TCL arranged for a tech to come to my house, he replaced the control board, and now the HDMI port works. I will now have to set up all my devices again, set up the TV again, enter all my streaming passwords again, etc. This is not the worst thing that could have happened, because I still was able to use the other two HDMI ports in the interim, but the TV was not fully functional for eleven days, I wasted a ton of time, and the fact that the control board was defective out of the box does not bode well for the TV's longevity. TCL's tech support was adequate, and the TV otherwise works fine (has a good picture, etc.), but based on this experience I would not recommend this brand.

Have had this TV for 4 years now bought it on Black Friday 2018, and have no regrets. The TV works well with the apps and have had minimal issues with it. The times I have had issues with certain apps not starting or the TV freezing up, I just unplugged it and plugged it back in and the issue was gone.

    Dim picture and sound

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

Disappointed in the picture, which is too dim and not as vibrant as other TVs I've had (This is the 4th Smart 4K TV I've bought in the last couple of years, most of them cheaper than this one). I prefer the "Dynamic" or "Vibranr" picture mode but this TV only has 'Brighest" to "Darkest" and no other setting for TV picture. See little difference between "Brightesr" and "Medium". The entire picture has a darkness/dimness that the other TVs I've owned didn't have. Is it horrible? No and it might not bother some at all. But I need the vibrant colors I expect from certain shows and movies. Also, saw no difference in clarity between this and the 60 hz refresh rate of the other TVs (in fact, if anything, seemed less clear). Sound was worse than all the othe TVs I've owned (Vizio, Samsung and Insignia) too. Noticed it right away. I'm not a sound aficianado so could live with it if the picture was good. But if you are you might want to get a sound bar if you get his TV. Also you have to aim remote directly at TV or else won't respond. Doesn't sound like a big deal right now but can be really annoying over the long run. Can use Roku app but not as intuitive. Roku is nice but Fire TV seems to have same functions and apps and also voice command. Grateful for bestbuy's return policy as am going to return this shortly.

      Hi Mike,

We're sorry to hear that you were not satisfied with your TV and that you were not able to see the same great picture quality a majority of our customers are seeing. We have glowing reviews on many professional reviewing sites and also from our customers. So it is a bit baffling to hear otherwise. There are actually many options available to adjust the picture settings to better fit your personal preference. You can access the Options menu on the TV by pressing the asterisk (*) button on your remote while watching content. Additionally, you can access advanced picture settings by downloading the free Roku mobile app on a smartphone or tablet. The Roku mobile app works as a remote and allows you to access additional features like voice search, private listening, advanced picture settings, and more. We will continue to make improvements to ensure our customers the best experience possible. Best of luck!

      Thank you,

      Sara

Not true 4K- uses RGBW LCD panel.

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

At the sale price, it is a good value if you want a cheap pseudo-4K tv at this size. The HDR doesn't pop at all like a higher-end set, because the native dynamic range (difference between black level with pixel full off and full-on peak brightness) of the panel/backlight combination is only about SDR quality, even though the set can decode HDR signals. Do an online search for the difference between RGB vs RGBW 4K panels. This set has an RGBW panel, which means there isn't a discrete red, green, and blue subpixel for each pixel. You won't notice from a distance, but if you use it up close for gaming or as a computer monitor, you will clearly see the checkerboard of white subpixels degrading the resolution and making solid colors look like they are checkerboarded with white dots (which is exactly what you get with an RGBW panel). The good news is, overscanning can be turned off in the user menu, so you won't have to deal with that degradation. The Roku interface is snappy as always. The color accuracy is pretty good, the color gamut is weak, and colors are lacking in vibrancy a little bit, ostensibly because of the white subpixels substituted for color ones as a result of the RGBW panel. At around 250 it is a good value and decent performer for non-critical viewing. I'd recommend it only at the deep discounted price and only for someone who didn't care about the checkerboard of white dots in the pixel matrix.
