Good, but not great

I had trouble finding suitable settings. I found these settings on the internet and they seem to work the best:
TV Brightness: Brighter
Picture Mode: Normal
Dynamic Contrast: Off
Backlight: 100
Brightness: 42
Contrast: 100
Sharpness: 66
Color: 55
Tint: 0
The biggest dissappointment is the reds and a slightly washed out appearance. However, for what I paid, it is a great TV that is loaded with bells and whistles.

Beware the dreaded horizontal lines!

I bought my TCL 49” S405 in September of 2017. Just a couple of weeks after my factory warranty expired, I noticed the horizontal lines scrolling up my screen. This appears to be a not too uncommon issue with these models; after researching online, it seems quite a few owners of this set are experiencing the same problem. Of course, I’m out of luck since my TV is out of the warranty period. A shame, as the picture is fantastic once it’s calibrated. I tried everything settings-wise to “mask” the lines; I’ve put up with it for the past couple of months, but I just can’t “un-see” them. Too bad it’s now pretty much a 49” diagonal brick.

I've only had this TV for a day and I'm already considering returning it. First of all, I ordered it online for delivery, and the TV came damaged. The left half of the screen was black with lines running through it. I found a store that had it in stock, and they were able to exchange it. However, the replacement has a stuck pixel right in the middle of the screen that is very noticeable and distracting. They will say, "it's normal to have stuck/dead pixels on a screen with so many pixels". No, it's not, any more than a brand new car having a few scratches on it being okay. I shouldn't have to play the lottery in order to get a perfect set.
Other than that, HDMI ARC doesn't work with my Pioneer receiver (it only intermittently has sound). It works fine with my Onkyo receiver, however. Also, the viewing angles are poor.

I bought this TV several months ago. The quality of the TV seemed great for the price. Everything was working well at first but that changed. It started out saying I had “no storage” and it wouldn’t let me open the apps. So I tried deleting a few apps and nothing happened. I had to completely reset it. A couple weeks later I noticed it will sign me out of apps even when I keep entering my password and verification. Annoying but nothing too bad. Then not long ago I noticed faint horizontal lines on the screen. I thought it went away but, of course it didn’t. Now I can’t unsee them. There is no damage to the screen or anything like that. I am truly disappointed that I spent hundreds on a TV that hasn’t even lasted a year. I have had my Vizio for over 6 years and there has never been a single issue. I should have read the reviews before I wasted my money. Spend the extra bucks and buy a Vizio or Samsung.

Useless Remote Control

I can’t even use this TV long enough to review the TV itself because I am returning it. The remote control that comes with this TV is useless. There is no numeric key pad so you cannot change the channel by punching in the channel number. You have to scroll up and down which takes forever!

Hi Susie,
As mentioned in your other review, we're sorry that you were not satisfied with the remote that came with your TV. All of our Smart TVs come with a Roku remote. A majority of our customers like and appreciate the simplicity of the remote. In addition to the remote, it comes with, you can download the free Roku mobile app on your phone which you can use it to toggle power, toggle volume, use voice search, private listening, and much more. However, we understand that people have different personal preferences and needs. Best of luck and happy viewing!

It's not worse than other TV's in the price range, but anybody saying this TV has a "beautiful picture" surely lost their glasses. The picture is meh and the TV has very noticeable vertical banding, particulalry when watching sports or playing video games. The picture quality is not good at all, but about what you should expect for TVs this cheap it seems.

Sorry you're not experiencing the great performance most users and professional reviewers are finding with this set. Maybe look at some of the great videos available on the YouTube HDR channel as a quick check to see the capabilities of the TV. If those look as great as most people find them, maybe revisit your other sources and connections.
Hope that helps,

Doesn't Last Very Long!

I bought this tv in 2019. At first it all seemed good, then it started glitching in antenna reception. Just blacking out for a second or two, but causing me to miss parts of what I was watching. this only happened on the air reception, so I took the set to work to use for media and zooms. this all worked fine until recently I can no longer discover the device for casting. What will be next. I am over the quality of the unit. If the life span is this short, I will invest in a higher price unit. YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR.

This is a HORRIBLE TV! We have had little issues since we bought it, but now we have sound no picture and the TV is only 2 years old. I called TCL and they said that I have 1 of the TVs that have a bad panel and it is no longer covered under warranty and I can go take it to a shop to be fixed! Are you kidding me, 2 years!! My Vizio is 16 years old and still works and I have NEVER had an issue! You get what you pay for, its an inexpensive TV but it is terrible quality and not worth the hassle!! STAY CLEAR OF TCL TVs!!!!
