The TCL 50” Class 4 Series LED 4K UHD Smart Android TV falls short in several areas, particularly in terms of picture quality, with colors appearing washed out and blacks lacking depth. The Android TV interface can be sluggish at times, leading to frustrating navigation. While it offers 4K resolution, the overall viewing experience is hindered by mediocre brightness and poor contrast levels, making it less suitable for bright rooms. Additionally, the sound quality is disappointing, requiring an external speaker or soundbar for a more immersive audio experience.

Picture quality is great for the price. I would have gone with three stars for functionality. It does not work with Alexa in this country. I cannot program my Directv remotes to work with it. But the value saved the four stars overall. My 75" Roku TCL works with everything, so it might be worth a little more to get the Roku.

Could be better if it worked with Alexa

Picture is great and Android TV interface is ok but not as nice as Fire TV , Roku or Google Chromecast TV. My biggest gripe is lack of Alexa based control as my Fire Cube can really only power on/off and adjust volume but can't change inputs. Speaking of inputs the remote doesn't clearly make it apparent which button changes inputs. Plus my Spectrum remotes have had little success either with input switching so I have to always keep both remotes handy. Lastly the digital tuner isn't as strong. Fix Alexa integration along with universal remotes and this TV would be a great buy. However I think if I had to do it again I would have spent extra and gone for the Roku 4 or 5 series instead.

Constantly crashes and lags. To be able to watch a show it takes 4 reboots and the apps are constantly in updating status but don’t actually update. If you can spend the 300 on a different tv do so

Although impressive with its form factor and entry-level 4KUHD display, this TV lack so much as far as features. Let me list them off... - No mute button - Lackluster smartphone remote. If you lose your remote, a great back up to have ready is the stock Android remote for your smartphone. But there is no power or volume control on the smartphone remote. I ended up - I am on 1 gig internet yet the play performance on some streaming apps are jittery to say the least. Not a good experience. - Since this is an Android device, would have been once for some Google home integration. But Google home could not recognize it to control at least basic features like power, volume, and launching apps. I ended up returning it after 1 week.

I would give it 0 stars if I could. Have to reset this thing constantly to get it work right. The ARC input never works. Neither does the t-link. The software is slow and buggy even though it’s android. The remote is worthless. It says it works with google assistant but always loses connection or just does t work at all. Spend a few more $ to avoid all the headaches this garbage will give you.

I just bought it in 2020 and it completely died on me yesterday (December 2023). Before that, had to unplug several times a week because it wouldn't work. Now I have to spend money that I barely have to get a new one. What a waste of money

    Fine TV

For the price, its a fine TV. The sound is very good, but the picture is kind of dull and I get buffering a lot when using the apps. I have this right next to a Sharp Roku TV and that TV never gets buffering, so I know it is not my internet. The TV on the Sharp TV is also much sharper, but the TCL has better sound. I would recommend this only because of the sale price of $229.99, I would not pay full price for this TV.

But it could be better. To really see an advantage of having 4k HDR the screen ought to be brighter than it is. Also reflections on the screen can be a bit of an issue. I much prefer the Roku TV operating system to Android. Apps seem to get fewer updates, and be less up to date on Android TV. It's perfectly serviceable, and strictly a personal preference, but I prefer the Roku or even Fire TV interface to Android TV.
