Packaging damaged screen

So I picked up this tv today and right out of the box I noticed something weird. The packing tape was literally taped onto the screen. Really really dumb but I figured the people who boxed up the tv knew what they were doing. Clearly I was wrong. The sharpness and color are great and I love the 4K and Roku functionality but there are serious backlight bleed issues. Every part of the tv that had the packing tape on it has severe backlight bleed that is very noticeable even when watching bright-lit scenes in movies and tv shows. I know it’s a budget tv and I expected some backlight bleed in super dark scenes, but this one is really just not acceptable at all I’ll be returning this particular panel and hopefully I can get a hold of one without this same issue. Kinda ridiculous

I only bought this as I cannot wall mount or floor mount and this model had a footprint of 8” and I had 8.5” to play with. I have a 43” Samsung 4K series 7 that kills the TCL for quality of picture, sound and features like Apple Play. Overall it’s decent for the price.

Hi Dave,
Thank you for taking the time to provide your feedback. There are options available to adjust the picture settings to better fit your personal preference. You can access the Options menu on the TV by pressing the asterisk (*) button on your remote while watching content. Additionally, you can access expert picture settings by downloading the free Roku mobile app on a smartphone or tablet. The Roku mobile app works as a remote and allows you to access additional features like voice search, private listening, expert picture settings, and more. Hope this helps & happy viewing!

I returned it because the picture quality made it hard to see. It seemed worse in a dark room. I gave this two stars because the sound was better than expected.

Great TV for the price. Bought this for our extra family room. Performs almost as good as my Sony that I paid almost 4 times the money for. Sound is excellent, and the Roku is a full featured Roku experience.

we needed a larger TV because we bought what we could afford in the past, which was too small. TCL was a recommended value brand on TWiT by Leo Laporte. New Smart Roku and Alexa Ready TVs were recommended on Linux Unplugged by Chris Fisher because of convenience and ease of use. in the past they had been known to spy on the consumer and had lost market share but hoped to gain it back with new non-spying models. i an still using this TV with 720p resolution that i get from AT&T and Directv, but plan to set it up with a home theater system, so i am not really seeing 4K resolution yet. the one thing i don't like is the largish white LED bottom center when off that is where you aim the remote at? maybe a piece of electrical tape would solve that and allow the remote to still work? the TV is plugged into a switched surge protector at shoulder level which she likes to turn off before going to sleep. we haven't set up any smart features yet. not all dumb features work with the Directv remote and the included Roku remote center 'select' button sticks in the depressed position which will totally discharge the batteries within a day, but i use rechargeable batteries so the discharge only happened the first day. if you fiddle with the button, it will release.

I recently purchased the similar Hisense 50" 4K TV and this TV is very similar in both quality and functionality. (In fact the remotes are identical.) Both pictures are sharp and clear and the setup is simple. The reason that I chose this TCL, then, over the Hisense was the smart platform. In my opinion the Roku platform is much more user-friendly than the Android platform that was offered on the other.
If I had one complaint, and it is probably picky, it would be that when the TV is off the remote control sensor area acts as a nightlight and for me this is annoying, especially since I placed the unit in the bedroom.
Overall I find that for the price I am extremely pleased with the value of this purchase and would highly recommend it.

Very light, for a 50" TV. Has a really good picture and supports HDR, but not HDR10. Roku part of the TV works really well and is surprisingly snappy and has played everything I've thrown at it. The only problem I've had is getting a TCL sound bar with IR blaster to get the transmitter positioned just right because of where the IR receiver is on the TV. Right in the center where the remote signal indicator is under the front bezel. It took a while to get it just right so it works reliably. Still not as responsive as communicating directly, but I thinks it's the sound bar not the TV that's causing the issue. Other than that, I'm happy with it.

Let me tell you that i previously had 32 inches TCL roku tv. This TV is certainly way better then my old one however i am dealing with certain complications with this tv, which i never faced with my old TV.
1. TV is loosing internet connectivity even i have Ethernet connection and i need to manually setup internet connection. This happens after turning on tv after couple of hours. (So far did not find a solution of this problem)
2. Not all type of HDMI cable can be used for connecting this TV.
3. Inbuilt volume is relatively now then other TVs(May be i am little spectacular since all the time i watch roku channels only, i did not enable my cable or antina connection with this TV).
Good Part:
1. Best picture quality in this class.
2. Fast boot-up time.
3. Simple and smart remote(You can type with your smart phone)
4. Inbuilt Roku so you can save 60$.
5. No need to have cable connection anymore{Use Sling(To be honest, I am not a fan of sling and i don't like it.) or some other internet based app to watch live TV}
6. Clutter free interface, so you focus on your entertainment then functionality.
7. Web based Roku support so you can control your TV from your computer.
8. Thousands of free roku apps.

I was surprised a few years back when I was researching 4K HDR TV's for gaming and several web sites that do deep analysis suggested a Roku TCL. I purchased and was very happy with the value and the experience. So when we needed another TV for a different room replacing an older HD one it was a not brainer to see what Best Buy had in TCL. I compared all the basic features and while I wasn't after top of the line by any means I didn't want to spend the money without getting something with up to date features. This TCL 4 series quickly bubbled to the top of my price/feature value list along with a couple of other brands. When I asked the sales associate his suggstion he immediately suggested the TCL over the other brands and could list 3 or 4 reasons it was superior even to ones that was a bit more expensive.
This TV has a great picture and decent sound but the Roku experience really sets it apart. They are SO easy to set up and so easy and pleasant to use. Note: if you have trouble pairing your Cable box remote with the TV don't go to the Cable box companies web site for codes - got to TCL's website - they keep a comprehensive list of codes that actually work! ^_^
I highly suggest Best Buy for TV shopping for selection, knowledge, and pricing, and I highly suggest the TCL brand as a great value but even at a higher price it would still win me over.

If you're searching for the best low-priced TVs on the market, TCL is it and Best Buy is the place. I consulted with a couple TV experts before I bought, so I know what specs to look for. This TV is Smart, with an unbelievable picture, IP TV with a wide range of Internet Channels, 4K Ultra HD, and the setup was a breeze. I loved it so much, I went back twice to outfit other rooms in my house with this TV. Best decision ever!!

The set:
Pros - easy to set up, easy to use, clean/clear picture, good sound (I also added the TCL Sound Bar/Woofer, now even better sound). A very nice TV at the current price,
Cons the remote doesn't have back-lit buttons.
Overall - I recommend.
As a content side note: HBO Max doesn't stream to Roku devices yet.
