Good Tv

Great first smart TV for the elderly

It must be spring because EVERYTHING IS "BLOOMING"

Owned for less than 1 week when reviewed.This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.With such amazing praise from last years 6 Series and even the 5 Series, I figured that with the new year and newer tech advancements, that this tv would be pretty close to on par with the 2018 6 series seeing as the new 6 series is now QLED. Well... they did do well with picture clarity and detail, but "HOLY BLOOMING HALOS BATMAN!!!" :/ When watching dark scenes, there is an excessive amount of blooming/haloing around the objects in focus. I know this new 5 Series does not have Full Array Local Dimming but it does, however, claim to have "HDR Dynamic Contrast", which (to quote TCL), is an "Advanced technology that offers striking contrast for brighter whites and darker blacks." ... Well... they did a decent job at the bright whites and dark blacks, but failed miserably at transitioning between the two! The only way I have found to (somewhat) mitigate this, was to lower the "Brightness" EXCESSIVELY, and to turn "TV Brightness" (yes that's a separate brightness feature) to "Brighter", and "Micro Contrast" to "High". The downside to this is that some content is now too dark in certain areas which severely degrades the clarity and quality of the image, making some objects almost completely non-visible! This (to me) is totally unacceptable and I will most likely be returning this ASAP and, dare I say, taking a chance on a new Hisense (which has pretty great reviews from consumers, as well as RTINGS). Sad to see this from TCL :(

Mine may have been broken

But the 4k wasn't as bright as advertised and when black was next to white on the screen it would flicker and flash. Mine may have been damaged in transit. Instead of taking chances i bought a visio brand because they are top notch.
