My 18 year old tv looked better

The image consistency on this one is terribly frustrating. Some things will look amazing, others will just be terribly washed out and bright. All the default brightness settings are 100%, and even at half that, it still looks weird. I've been fighting with the setting all week and can't seem to find something that works. The 'smart' portion is quite frustrating as well, but that's just personal preference. I watched the screen brighten and dim constantly, while a scene in a movie panned over the top of a pine forest. It struggled to adjust to the dark and green being layered like they were. The reason it still gets 3 stars despite looking so bad at times, is the sale price was excellent, and when it does look good, it looks amazing. Speakers are meh, but I don't think anyone expects them to be amazing.

TCL 50" Review

The main issue for me is the color. It took me a week to get the correct brightness and color balance to my liking. The tools are not very sensitive and (in fairness) different TV networks and sources (DVD, XBox, etc.) have different color balances. I use a 2.1 sound bar. Sound isn't too sophisticated, but color balance and depth are important. I migrated from a Samsung, which was great for a decade. The TV was dying a slow death and needed the upgrade to TCL. You will not be disappointed. If I could fit a larger TV in the space, I would have.

Just Okay

We had to get a soundbar to make up for the poor quality of the tv. I liked that it was light and easy to set up, though. It didn’t feel overwhelmingly tech-y.

It had the most critical features I was looking for, like local dimming. It's an excellent tv for the price. Probably the best I've ever had.

Such an excellent TV for the price

It has a very sharp picture, and the Google OS is easy to navigate. The sound is good, but I added a TCL soundbar to make it better. This was a great addition to my family room. I liked it so much that I bought the 75" version for my den.
