TV has issues

The first 2 months I had zero issues with it but the past couple weeks it started having internet issues which makes a smart tv pretty worthless. I have to turn my wifi off and back on every time I turn on the TV or else it says network failure. Sometimes I have to do this several times before it actually starts working properly. I guess you get what you pay for. I wish I spent a couple hundred more and bought from a reputable manufacturer.

NOT REALLY A SMART TV
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.TCL Says “ Stream 500,000 movies & TV episodes across thousands of streaming channels”, but to do this you must setup a Roku account. You can’t even connect this TV to the internet without signing up for Roku. All of your user names and passwords for any streaming services are then given to Roku. So the TV itself can ONLY connect to Roku anything you think you can do on a regular smart tv can not be done on this TV. Of course TCL does not tell you that until after you buy it. I called the 1800 number to set up the internet connection, spoke to tech support who confirmed all of this, then I said that I was done with tech support and was not happy about TCL not mentioning I had to sign up for a new account to use the TV, I asked to be transferred to customer service and the TCL rep said they didn’t have a customer service department. Huh?? What?? Really? So I verified by saying “so TCL is advertising this TV as a smart tv and that it can stream channels, movies, Netflix, and amazon, but the tv itself can’t do any of that, and must go through Roku to do any of that, and you don’t tell anyone this before they buy the tv, and you don’t have a department that cares anything about how your customers feel about your lack of truth in advertising the TV? Is that correct?” They said Yes. So there you go, TCL in a nutshell.

All smart TVs use some sort of operating system that allows you to access some sort of app store to download streaming channels and access content. All of our TV are clearly marked with which operating system it utilizes. In order to use the smart features of our Roku TVs, you would need to complete the guided setup. This includes connecting to the Internet, creating a Roku account (completely free), and activating the TV (completely free). Additionally, we offer various forms of customer support including, phone, email, and live chat. Picture Quality is poor
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.This is a low price tv, but I was expecting a better picture quality, at the set up i saw that the picture setting was at 100% bright and the color level at 76 %. The picture is not very bright and colors or fair, not very good. Black is very bad. I made a few changes but it was of no help. I have another TCL 40 inch in my RV and it has been perfect. Not very happy with this one.

ok tv for the price

I had an old Samsung tv and needed and upgrade - however this is ok. Many cons; lags and freezes very frequently as well as has troubles loading streaming services. Navigating through the settings will overload it and go on lagging frenzy!! I would not buy it again and don’t recommend. It’s definitely not worth it regardless what the sale is! Tv is frustrating most of the time. Find a different tv

Save money - Buy this at Costco

TCL 55” Roku TV stopped working after 2 years

Wifi kept going out and I had to continue to reconnect to TV. Now screen has gone totally black. It will turn on, bit no sound and home screen. Not worth getting an estimate to repair and I will just invest in a better brand.

DO NOT BUY IF YOU HAVE KIDS

Also youtube forces you to completely sign out to switch accounts unlike the rokutv. This tv is inconvenient, it'd be worth it to spend a bit more for the rokutv.

Bare Minimum TV

Another annoying issue with this TV is you can't control the volume of the sound bar. I didn't have this issue with my old Vizio TV and an LG sound bar.

Possible short lifespan.

I don't have extended warranty, so I am stuck with a dead Roku TCL 55 inch paperweight. Long conversation with the manufacturer, including jumping thru hoops to get receipt, model number and serial number resulted in "Sorry." Granted, my TV (paperweight) is a different model, but DANG! 23 month life span?! Somebody convince me. Why should I spend 300 bucks on what could be another paperweight in less than 2 years? Suggestions? Anyone? Prospective buyers? Best Buy sales? Anybody?

Network Issues, prevent app usage

All apps but youtube report network issues when I try using then (Netflix, Amazon. YoutubeTV). Tried a factory reset and to update the software but nothing works. All other devices on my wifi network are working flawlessly and when I search online it appears this is an issue with this TV. The panel itself is fine for $200 so if you don't need to use native apps or are hooking it up to a streaming device you will probably be fine.

Avoid TCL TV's

I bought two of these TV's two years ago, and the backlight just went out with one of them. Apparently this is a huge issue with TCL, just Google "Roku TCL" and the first thing that pops up is "screen is black." TCL customer service offers zero support if you didn't buy an extended warranty. This is unheard of for a 2-yr old TV. Spend some extra money and buy a better television.

Don't Buy THIS!!!

The screen went blank just like the other reviews from this website and Target.com. So, this must be an ongoing issue. We called support and opened a ticket. They said they could possibly do something with the receipt. We don't have the receipt. It's just after Christmas, now we are on our way to buy a Samsung.

the picture quality stinks
