Went bad right after warranty expired

Picture died after 1 year
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I bought this TV in April 2018, and now, July 2019, the picture just went out. Sadly I didn't buy this with a credit card (which can extend the warranty), and the screen died conveniently *just* after the Mfr warranty expired. TCL Support told me I have to pay to get it repaired now. It's too bad, since I originally paid $600, and this is a nice TV otherwise. If it hadn't died so quickly, my rating would be higher. So, If you do decide to buy this unit USE A CREDIT CARD, buy it on sale, and caveat emptor. Thanks for reading!

Black screen
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I purchased this Tv and after 3 months the remote broke. The TCL replaces it free of charge . Then after owning it for a year and 2 months it’s went black screen as we were watching it. Contact TCL and they made ve hit a couple of buttons which I already did after going on the website. After we finished doing everything they recommend they asked if I bought a extended warranty said no and they said ok have a good day. Thanks for your help . 1 year Tv . Not buying another TCL TV for as long as I live or my family.

Purchased this TV 12/09/2017. Dead 02/02/2020
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Purchased from my Bestbuy in Morgantown, WV, on 12/9/2017. TCL/Roku TV 55" has an infamous "dark screen" problem, which I started to encounter after about 2 years (as the warranty begins to expire). The problem is caused by a combination of LED's going out and/or one or more of the three circuitboards within the unit. I ran through some extensive reading, contacted TCL, and worked-through all possible scenarios. Sometimes the screen goes dark and comes back. Sometimes not. Finally, it died on Superbowl Sunday 2020. I balked at having to shell-out again for a newer TV, so I procrastinated 2 hours as I fumbled with the normal solutions (reboot, reboot, reboot, reboot...maybe works, maybe not). It's NEVER been handled roughly, kept in a non-dusty, protected part of our living room. About 2 months ago, I took it out of mothballs and it worked (?!!) for about three days before finally going dark screen for ever. TCL could not offer anything but "take it for repair." This is a new thing in our technological world: a DISPOSABLE TV. At $299, you do the math. I can remember when TV's would last for many years (>10 or more). Now...we get something quite different. There are many articles about the dark screen problem, and a cottage industry built-up to sell components for out-of-warranty sets that might work. I have a Hisense TV now, 5 year Geek Squad protection plan. Learned my lesson. Now, Geek Squad fixes or replaces, and yeah, it cost $599 with all considered, but I guess if Hisense is better, it'll last at least 5 years. We shall see. Oh, and the Roku interface is far superior to all else I've seen. I do miss that. "Android" is okay, but very klunky. Google surprises me with their lack of creativity.

Had good picture until...
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Giving it two stars because the picture quality was good while it lasted. We received this tv as a gift a little over a year ago. It had good picture and sound was ok. I returned home only to find the picture had gone out. It had sound, but no picture. Called TCL customer service, they walked me through factory resetting it and everything. Nothing! Had sound no picture. The TCL customer representative told me to call someone out to repair it. I told her for the what it would cost to repair it, I can replace it. I would not recommend this brand at all. Tv only lasted a year and one month.

Awesome For 1 Year, But Broke After 15 Months
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Worked extremely well for 1 year but randomly broke after 15 months. I was a big fan of TCL for the first year of ownership. The TV worked well & I had zero issues. Then one day the screen turned black. Apparently this is a known issue with TCL's. I wonder how many people have had TCL TV's last longer than 12 to 15 months. Very convenient (for TCL) that my TCL broke just 3 months after the original manufacturer's warranty expired. Hard to justify ever buying another TCL again after this experience.

TCL doesn't stand behind their products
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I purchased a 55" tv in March of 2018, the screen went blank in @ January of 2019. Went to TCL, they sent a rep to evaluate the TV and they replaced it after about 3 weeks. That TV died in August 2019. So 2 TVs in 18 months equals 9 months per TV. I reached out to TCL again and I was told that they don't warranty the second TV at this point because it was only under warranty for 3 months. I'm not sure why, if I bought a brand new tv and it dies in less than a year and they replace it, they give me a new one to replace it and it only has a 3 month window? why does the second tv only receive a quarter of the warranty than the first one? I buy a brand new tv, and end up without anything in 18 months because their tvs, apparently don'y last longer than 9 months. I was told by their support team that there's nothing they will do at this point because they already replaced it once. Apparently, it's my fault that their product doesn't work.

Main board broke after 2 years
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I bought this tv christmas of 2017 and it already has main board issues. If you risk getting this tv you're best bet is to get the 5 year protection plan because they're made cheap and you'll see issues in a couple years. I would honestly spend more money a better brand.

TV only lasts a little over a year
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I spent a lot on this TV when getting it a year back. Two weeks back the screen went blank all of a sudden. I had literally not even moved the TV around for this past year unless I'm dusting it of course. I'm furious that this would go off just a few months after my one year warranty. I called their customer care and they said sorry sir, I'm like what the heck is this a one year TV?

Warning: Great..At First
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I found out like many other people that this tv only works for about a year (the length of the warranty). After about a year, I started having issues with a black screen. Reset worked at first, but eventually the screen stayed black with a light behind the screen. I understand that technology isn’t perfect, but the issue is TCL customer service. The manager told me to take the tv to a “local repair shop”..his exact words. There was NOTHING they could offer to repair their product, even for a cost. The company is aware that this is happening because there are many similar reviews on various websites. TCL is knowingly selling bad products and leaving customers without solutions. Don’t waste your money.

I would think twice
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I bought one of these TVs for my Mother in Law to replace her old tube TV as it had Roku built in. Unfortunately, it only lasted just over a year. The backlights are gone on it, and pretty much nothing can be done. Very disappointed. It was barely used as it was in a spare bedroom most of the time.

ok tv...
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is my second time buying this 55 inch tv. After a while of having it we noticed a popping sound when the volume is over 35. I am using the internal speakers and I have done a full factory reset. But the popping sound is still there. It's an ok tv except for the poor audio quality.

Dies right after the warranty is up
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.bought tv on black Friday not even two years ago. Was used very seldom and decided one day to not turn on nor will the white light thats on continuously will come on. Tried resetting it, swapped power cords, tried different outlets. I even had bought a nice surge protector to protect it just in case. Do not buy these products! I also have a smaller TCL tv that likes to not turn on completely sometimes and just stay stuck on the roku screen while the white light blinks. Pieces of junk.
