Do Not Buy this Roku TV. TCL is a joke!

Beautiful picture, sound, and easy to set up, although cumbersome thanks to the large size. One day after using the TV, the remote starts working. Oh! We'll order another remote and try a universal one out for now. Turns out, NO remote works for this TV at all anymore. Deeming it TOTALLY USELESS! This is the second time I've recently gotten a defective product from Best Buy. It is beyond frustrating to have to make multiple trips out to this crappy store during a pandemic. So now, after enjoying our TV for less than 2 hours total, we have to load it back into the car, take it back, return it, bring a new one home, and set it up all over again. Deja vu. Or just cheaply made TVs. We certainly WON'T be buying anything TCL or Roku. And before you ask, no, it doesn't work with the wifi remote app either. AVOID THIS TV! I am so angry this happened. Apparently it's a recurring problem; check out Reddit. Their infrared sensors love to die out at an early age.

Great at first but died after four months.

The ROKU interface was also very familiar and easy to set up. However the TV has completely died on us after only a few hours of use weekly after four months of ownership. Will not power on at all which is very unfortunate. We are now out of the return window and hopefully can get this fixed through the TCL warranty, but it looks like we might be responsible for shipping it out and who knows how long not having the unit. Not a good experience, these things should be more reliable. I would recommend choosing a different unit based on our experience.

I am returning for a replacement because the picture keeps freezing. It freezes for a couple seconds and then it reboots itself but it is very aggravating to have this happen in the middle of a show. I am hoping it was just a glitch with this particular TV because I really do love the picture.

When you want to do things their way

One annoying bit I cannot get around is when the TV is woken by a HDMI device and set to start at that input (AppleTV) it sits on the Roku input selection menu for 5 seconds while you wait for the inout to switch. TCL/Roku changed this as of 2 firmware revisions ago and there doesn’t appear to be a way to disable this advertisement. As happy as I am with the picture quality, this annoyance makes me want to trash it.

No stand, remote or power cord

Not even a power cord. My thoughts will forever be tainted by having to drive to another store to buy a stand; then having to go back when discovering there was no remote or power cord. Check your box. What a way to spend Mother's Day.

Not for gaming

TCL is junk - don't waste your hard-earned money!

I did research and this is a VERY COMMON problem as I read countless other people had the same issue. I called their "technical support" and they were completely useless...I could tell when I told her the screen was black she had received many calls like mine. I will NEVER purchase a TCL TV again - they are JUNK! My prior TV I had for 7 years and never had a problem and sold it only to buy this crappy product. NEVER AGAIN. Please do not waste your money...or plan on buying an extended warranty because you WILL need to use it.

I got what I paid for - 3 broken TVs from TCL

It was a very easy return process with Best Buy so no complaints there. The new one worked for 4 months and then went black. Now I had to work with TCL for a warranty claim. Weeks passed and they sent a repair technician that could not fix it so they shipped me a new TV. The replacement unit was cracked. They wouldn't provide a refund so they sent a fourth unit. The fourth one worked but this was all extremely inconvenient because I had gone months without a TV. I’ve probably spent 10 hours dragging TVs around Chicago (they made me responsible for disposal of the broken units) and talking to their support team. I also learned late in this process that their replacement units were refurbished instead of new. That feels shady to me. Even when the TCL 5 series works, it feels cheap. The remote feels like a Little Tikes remote. This TV gets good reviews from a technical standpoint but those reviewers don't live with it for an extended period and I’m sure TCL makes sure they are given a functioning unit. I also think that well-known reviewers underestimate the value of display brightness and the 5 series is incredibly dim. Maybe it has a really fast response time and high contrast but you can't see it if you have a window behind your couch. If you are in the market for a value TV, I highly recommend that you look at the Vizio M7 series. The quality is vastly better and Vizio is an American company.

Unhappy with the brightness control, and reds

Despite much effort, tutorials, sample settings, and talking with TCL tech support, I was never able to get reds to display properly. Either they were alarm light screaming vivid, or people's faces were gray.

Save your money and buy a different TV

Just after Best Buy’s return policy expired this TV became a mess. Contacted Best Buy and they said you need to go through warranty with the manufacturer. I did that and no help what so ever. Continued contacting TCL warranty and they will not respond. My issues with this TV- volume goes extremely loud or extremely quiet with no change on volume control. I have to completely restart the tv each time to go back to normal. This is unplug it and wait then plug it back in restart it. Next issue is it constantly disconnects from wifi. The last issue is speaker sound quality has gone down and is terrible. SAVE YOUR MONEY AND BUY A DIFFERENT TV. no help from Best Buy or the manufacturer on this TV. Extremely dissatisfied and will never buy one again.

Bad luck with this tv

I then traded it in for the 55 inch and now this one turns off by itself randomly whenever it wants. Its been not even two weeks and its turned of by itself on multiple occasions.

How Has TCL Not Figured This Technology Out Yet
