I have had this TV for about 3 years now. I bought it specifically for a next-gen console. Using it with one for some time now, I can honestly say it runs fantastically. A couple of minor hiccups with the lighting. Once I figured that out, I really can’t complain. The resolution/sound is great with 4K movies, even better with a sound bar that supports Dolby Atmos. Its game mode capability is what really stood out for me, with its VRR and Low Latency features that are perfect for gaming.

I’ve been doing research on TV’s for months. Watching prices, sales, mini led, qled, processor speed, best contrast and crushed blacks. Then also all the top brands. I also did the research on different companies to see which is good for warranty work, and where these TV are made. Ultimately I wanted a 55” because of the space in my living room, and wanted to stay under $800 for a quality TV. Everything kept pushing me to the TCL brand with Qled. Then one day August 11th happened and I saw it was finally released. The long awaited, at least for me, TCL 6 series QLED- Mini led. Wow was it worth the wait. I put the TV through a few different types of television and it came through every time. Even my kids saw the awesome colors and amazing blacks. We saw details in StarWars The Last Skywalker that we did not even see in the theater. So yes, save a few hundred on the top brands and get this one.

It's been a year since purchasing this TV. After a year I can confidently say that I absolutely love this TV. Amazing picture (after some tweaks), I followed Digital Trends on YouTube for the picture settings and I'm content with them. 120hz has worked flawlessly at 1440p. Please note that there are no HDMI 2.1 ports, so you can do up to 4k60 only, but 120z at 1440p and below. This works out perfectly for me, and makes for a great PC display. I am now looking into the 646 series for the 2.1 ports and other improvements. I've recommended TCL to everyone I know and I think I'm a TCL fan boy for life lol. These TVs punch way above their price range. I honestly think the only way you can see noticeable improvements is if you went with OLED. Of course, those are considerably more expensive and you have the risk of burn in. Therefore, TCLs mid/high range models are a no brainer.

    TCL 55: R635 Mini-LED QLED TV

Have you been looking for a TV for that new PS5 or gaming console? Have you been looking for a TV that just has that right price amount, but wondering if it is right for you? Let's talk about the TCL 55" R635 Mini LED QLED TV. Picture - The picture really is amazing. I know in the store with the lights everything may look great, but keep in mind due to lights the settings are adjusted accordingly for the store. Looking at 4k HDR content on YouTube really is awesome. The TV will show HDR in the top right when HDR content is showing. The blacks are not that washed out black, they are the deep dark black that you want without paying the price for an OLED and not having to worry about OLED burn-in. The sound of the TV is really good and impressive. In a living room set, you may want a soundbar to add to those movie and gaming sessions. I have yet to try out the THX Gaming Mode as I just unboxed the TV due to needing a stand to support the TV. Setup - The setup is quite easy being a Roku TV. If you don't already have a Roku account, that's very easy to do, and adding apps and rearranging them on the home screen could not be easier. Also, with Roku, there is the Roku app where you can then listen in private mode with whatever headphones are connected to your phone and this gives you content that you can watch on the app for free. Nothing like the old Batman TV series on the go. Oh, on the back of the legs as the top part can come off as the power cord is on the left-hand side and the ethernet and HDMI ports are on the right-hand side that can be stored there depending on the size of the cables. The remote is simple but very easy to use. 4 dedicated buttons to Netflix, Hulu, Sling, and Disney + along with the volume and mute buttons on the right side and the remote is even voice-enabled. No, the TV is not 2.1 HDMI and that's fine. 1440p at 120hz can easily be enjoyable or 4k at 60hz is also enjoyable. But there have been some problems with the HDMI 2.1 on other sets, so I don't think it may not be quite ready for the mainstream just yet. Plus, only a handful of games will take advantage of it to start, but then you have to look at it as if those games are something you will be interested in. Overall, for the price of this TV and the features you get, the Mini-LED, it is a QLED, 4k, HDR and Dolby Vision, full array, THX Game Mode, pretty much edgeless, and you add Roku to the mix, you cannot go wrong here.

If you've done your homework with this TV, you've probably seen very good reviews across the board. Reddit/YT/ect... It was either the r635 or the Hisense H9G for me. Ratings.com is the only place that has the H9G over the r635 in spec comparison. I feel the overall consensus had the r635 as the ultimate winner. I bought this TV for overall HDR and 4K streaming along with Console gaming. My last tv was a Samsung RU7100 4K 55in. When I finally set this TV up and powered it on, the brightness and color quality blew me away right off. It is unbelievably crisp! Since I've had it I've ran a PS4 PRO and now the PS5. This TV takes full advantage of the PS consoles. I would assume the same for Xbox users. Latency is low, so gaming even at 4k/HDR/Ray-Tracing is smooth. And having VRR is a nice option to have for future gaming, even though the r635 doesn't have HDMI 2.1 inputs. Overall streaming and quality through the internal Roku system is solid. You'll spend a little time getting your favorite apps up to date with your accounts. That's a no-brainer. Once I got my YT account setup I immediately watched a few 8K vids. This is where I knew the r635 was a keeper. Brilliant, vivid picture quality beyond expectation. Amazing. You WILL NOT regret buying the r635, especially for the price. This will be a huge upgrade if you're a current lower budget 4k owner. And the r635 will be God-like to standard 1080p HDTV owners. Only 2 criticisms. 1. The TV is Full Array Mini-LED. So the back of the TV has some added meat that helps to produce all the high attributes I've mentioned. What does this mean? It's heavy! Be prepared to get this bad boy on a couch or other soft/safe setup place. Having a partner help in unboxing, setting up and moving the TV to your desired destination is preferred. I did it all on my own and it was tough. The weight of the TV along with its size can make for a difficult solo setup. I'm a 5`10 280 lb dude and struggled a bit with it. 2. The remote is fine, I do however find having the volume and mute buttons on the side of it a bit annoying. But not deal breaking in any way. Just a ticky-tack personal criticism. Overall, 650$ for a TV like this almost feels like you're stealing it. Don't hesitate to click that buy button!

To start off this a very good tv. For its price, it competes with TVs that are in the $1000 range. Pros: - Very good local dimming - HDR content in Dolby Vision and HDR 10 - TV speakers are amazing (even better when viewing Dolby atoms) - Low input lag for gaming - Bright TV - 120hz panel when playing games in 1440p - Modern Looking TV Cons: - Poor viewing angles - Bad black uniformity if not using local dimming - Overall poor use of the mini led’s - No HDMI 2.1 support (No 4K 120hz) - No Apple Airplay

This TV is gorgeous.. displays 4K content amazingly depending, Netflix can have some wonky Dolby vision. Also my panel is messed up. Whenever there should be black bars at the top and bottom while watching a movie. They are gray washed and blacks crushed in general. Also I'm getting red and blue tiny pixels all over the screen at some points... I have a replacement order coming to me. And hopefully this one is perfect as other people's have been. In this state I wouldn't recommend it but if the problems are fixed with the next set then I absolutely would. I bought it as a gaming TV and hdr on my base PS4 looks unbelievable. But it looks terrible on my Xbox One S. But I think it is the consoles limitations. Also game mode isn't the best looking setting. At least I should say the gaming picture setting. You should always keep game mode on. But you have to tweak what you like to see visually, to the proper picture setting while gaming.

Having gotten the new consoles, I was wanting a TV with latest features and this one ticked all the boxes except the HDMI 2.1 for 4K 120hz but I really didnt care about that. I more wanted the Dolby Vision, Dolby Atmos, and VRR settings and this does those beautifully. I received as an open box deal but did alot of research before purchasing. My dad has a budget TCL 4k tv that was maybe 300-400 max and I wasnt too impressed but this model kept popping up as the best value for under $800, and I got for $670. EASILY worth that price. I was coming from a Samsung KS8000 tv that I purchased for $1200 back in 2015 and absolutely loved but it couldnt do that latest technology like I wanted. This TV blows that one out for roughly half the price. Easy to set up, simple UI. I have an Nvidia Shield TV so I was too worried about it having ROKU, tho I do use for the Apple TV app and it works fine and is snappy. Nothing lags or is slow to react to presses. The image quality is where this shines. I have never been truly wowed by a television until I watched the new Tom and Jerry on this. It was like watching something live but with an amazing filter that made everything just pop without being too much. It was truly spectacular. I do suggest setting the HDR to normal hdr, turning off all the motion clarity settings, and changing to "warm." That seems to be the most accurate setting. Same with Dolby Vision settings. The biggest issue I have and I dont know if its my xbox series x or the tv itself, but it seems to "crash" my tv to where it would go black for about 20 seconds, show the TCL splash screen for another 30ish seconds, then get back to the home screen where I could then get back to my xbox which hadnt seem to be affected. I feel like this is a TV issue as the xbox doesnt seem to have changed or restarted. It happens every once in awhile and it corrects itself. Only reason im docking a star, because besides that its about perfect for this price range. I could easily see this TV being around the $1k price point, but for a base price of $700, its an absolute steal. If you are looking for a "next gen" gaming TV that leaves room in the budget for a dolby atmos soundbar system, this is 100% the move to make.

This TV is an absolute beast and under $1000. It has really good colors and displays black images so crisp and true to how it was intended to be. Using this on the PS5 and Xbox Series X is a literal game changer. Native 120hz with THX certified game mode is just the best. Colors are so close to OLEDs that go upwards of $1000, and there is no input lag that I can notice so far. Speakers are okay, like almost any tv I would recommend pairing it with a good sound bar for a good audio/visual experience. Def best performance for under $1000. Replaced my Samsung TU7000 for this and would never go back.

This 55-inch is the second TCL 6-Series Mini-LED with ROKU that I've purchased from Best Buy and it is used as a bedroom TV. The first one was the 75-inch version which is used in the living room. The Mini-LED makes for a bright and sharp picture that is very viewable from side angles. I went to the local Best Buy store and viewed all of the TVs from a side-angle and the TCL Mini-LED was better than most of the other QLED TVs and at a much more reasonable price than the Samsung NEOs. The TCL Mini-LED is almost half the price of the LG OLED TVs and I was scared away by the Best Buy user comments on the LG C1's. ROKU is a familiar platform for me and I feel that it is very robust and has a more intuitive remote than Samsung's minimalist design. TCL offers the same TV with a Google tuner, but I'm not a fan of the Google invasiveness - possibly a fine option for people that like Google products. I've had the 75-inch for over a year and a few months on the 55-inch - no problems whatsoever with either TV. TCL seems to have the right price for a TV with advanced Mini-LED technology and a true 120Hz refresh rate. TVs seem to last about five years before they fail and the lower price of a TCL will hopefully make tossing it to the curb one day a bit less traumatizing than if I had spent a lot more - been there, done that! The sound quality is probably average. The living-room TV is hooked to a receiver, but the 55-inch is used natively without a soundbar - the audio is fine. I was originally hesitant to buy a TCL, but the first experience went well enough that I bought two - 5 stars!

This TV is pretty fantastic. SDR has 900 nits of brightness & HDR has over 1,000 Nits of brightness. The panel is 120hz so you can get 120 frames per second with games on 1440p or lower. It has VRR & THX for gaming. It wont do 4K/120 because its an HDMI 2.0 TV, Not 2.1. Colors are great, it pops. Local dimming is ok, it has some blooming. The sound is also great! The TV has some bass to it unlike the Vizio that have zero. For the price, its not that bad of a purchase.

This is my first 4K TV and I can tell you that there is a noticeable difference in quality but you NEED to be sure you are watching something which is actually 4K UHD content. I have seen reviews saying that this is "not really 4K" but the fact remains that anything you watch will display in 4K if it is streamed that way and/or you have the proper connection. Dolby Vision - I am not sure if this is something or not. I mean, the colors and everything are very much indeed brighter and deeper than my previous television. However, when I am watching streaming shows, they specifically indicate Dolby Vision capable so I am happy I got a TV with that "brand." The remote - yea, it is small and very basic but it is a Roku TV and that is all you ever needed for a Roku. I find the remote very easy to use. The buttons do seem to sometimes have a delay - or perhaps I am clicking through my channels or volume too quickly sometimes. However, that is manageable. I do not use Hulu or Sling so I only wish those buttons did not visually say that but who knows, maybe I use them in the future. Or perhaps they can be changed somehow. It is heavy and certainly not one of the "thin" or "slim" TVs out on the market but perhaps that it an indication of it being built well. I never owned a TCL but I do not find the thickness to be a concern. It is a bit bottom heavy so my wall mount I am using, which is established to hold the weight, has the TV tilted down. I can not tilt the TV up but that is ok because I like the TV to have a bottom tilt off the wall. Now...I need to look at replacing my sound bar with a Dolby Atmos soundbar which this TV also supports straight through the HDMI eARC connection. If I could have gone for a bigger size, I would have. Maybe in the future.

Let me first start off by saying that this is my third TCL 6-series model in as many years. Not because the others broke, but because they always end up fixing one thing while making another feature worse. I have owned the 2018, 2019, and now the 2020 models. And I will say that they are so close to being the perfect budget TV. Budget would be the wrong way to describe these TV’s if they just got it right. A little backstory about the other models: The 2018 was nearly perfect. Colors were great and punchy, and motion was fine. It however had issues with subpixel dithering that would cause purple and grey artifacts in certain games. For movie watching it was great. The local dimming was nearly perfect in my experience. The 2019 model fixed the subpixel dithering and added quantum dots. However, the motion was absolutely atrocious. It was so bad in games that it made me motion sick a couple of times. Local dimming was about as good as the 2018 model. It was less bright than the 2018 model, however. Now I am on the 2020 model so let’s start with the good. The TV is very bright and looks fantastic when you are watching bright HDR and SDR scenes. It is very colorful and highlights look amazing. The motion is much better than the 2019 model, and games mostly play great on the TV. The Roku interface works great, and there are lots of apps to download, and it is very intuitive to use. The TV also supports VRR which could be great for some games. And now to what they messed up on this model. They went with mini-led technology for the local dimming this time around, and it is not great. It has caused the viewing angles to be much worse, and if you are not watching from dead center you will see all kinds of extreme blooming around objects on a black background. It even washes out colors if you are not dead center much faster than the past couple of years models. I also noticed some issue with the local dimming zones not being fast enough or smooth enough in transitioning from a lighter grey to a darker grey in some movie scenes. It made it look like there were black “circles” that changed in brightness. It was very distracting. The TV honestly should also have included HDMI 2.1 this time around. It is not a huge issue that it is not there but it would have been nice. So what is my verdict? It is another almost from TCL. What is frustrating about these TV’s is that if TCL just took all the things that their models from the past couple of years did right, then we would have a near perfect 4K TV for a fantastic price. They have proven they can compete with the bigger brands but they hold themselves back every year by messing with something that didn’t need to be fixed. It is super frustrating because I want to love these TV’s, and there are certainly moments when that happens only to be crushed by one extreme weakness. Do I recommend this TV? No. I just can’t justify it because of the local dimming issues it has.

Fantastic television. Fantastic image and graphical quality. It was definitely a bump up from our last tv from 5 years ago. And at a wonderful price. We also like not having to buy a separate Roku device to use its streaming platform. IT is built into this TV (though its fully capable of using other streaming platform devices if you so chose). Highly recommended for a fantastic, mid-range, big screen TV for a fantastic price. We haven't had a single problem in the two years we have had it. The sound quality isn't loud enough for us, so we use a soundbar with surround sound speakers to give us the full theater experience.

There are a lot of TVs on the market. This one provided the best bang for buck. The size is adequate for our family room. Our viewing distance is eight feet. The picture quality is outstanding. The colors are vivid. The blacks are dark. Motion blur is minimal. I haven't explored all of the adjustments available yet. It's nice to know I have adjustment options to improve our viewing experience. Comparing this TV in store to others persuaded me this was the one for us. It may not be quite on the same level as OLED displays, but it's close. I haven't listened to the TV speakers. Our TV is connected to a Yamaha receiver and Polk RM 7500 speakers with subwoofer. That's why I did not evaluate the TV sound quality.
