Outstanding image quality with one fatal flaw

I’ve read through endless forum pages and there is seemingly no solution to this problem. Have tried using optical, directly through HDMI from TV to AV receiver and the delay persists. Unfortunately will have to return this unit soon.

Terrible black detail

Will make Dark scenes look terrible. Panel lottery is real. I got one with bad HDR. HDR was greyed out. The colors looked washed out. Panels do come out bad. Avoid this tv if your a tv enthusiast and it's your main setup

Issues From Day One

Screen Backlighting Controler Broke After 6 months

I went to turn it on but all I got was a series of flashing screens; red,green,blue, white, gray, black on an endless loop. I tried everything that TCL recommended, including unplugging, and a hard reset. Nothing seems to work. I expect a replacement from TCL, although they haven't gotten back to me on that. BestBuy, of course, won't do it without an extended warranty. It's funny that my 47 inch non-smart TCL TV is still working fine. Unfortunately I gifted that one to my mother.

HDR is unwatchable!

More and more shows are using it, so the problem is just going to get more prevalent. HDR is so dark that you can’t even see what’s going on on the screen. After jumping through all of TCL support’s hoops, they decided that “this is how the editors of the content want the show to look like”. Apparently what you see at the theater and on other people’s tvs isn’t right and it was actually supposed to be hazy, dark, and unviewable. If TCL creates an update to fix the problem, then this would be a great tv. Until then, save your sanity and buy something else.

Sad...really wanted to join the TCL family.

Several friends have had great luck with TCL and I liked the features and price. I had to return the TV due to constant glitches with the screen. It was almost as if the HDMI connection between the TV and my cable box was flawed. I replaced the HDMI cables, and still had odd flickers and glitches. Also, the batteries in the remote had to be replaced 4 times in less than 30 days. ...and finally, the TV had to be unplugged and plugged back in a couple times to get it break out of some sort of lockdown loop that occurred when trying to use apps such as Disney Plus, HBOmax, or Netflix. I really wanted the tv to work!

No support from Best Buy

However, I have had to hard re-boot it a few times. Sometimes it will turn on and I only get a black screen. Recently the HDMI Ports would not work and again had to unplug, I tried to call Best Buy considering I just got it, but they would put me on hold and then forget about me. I called a couple of times and got the same results..

terrible color

We could never get the colors to adjust correctly. We own a TCL and love it but wasn't so happy with this one. I think it was just a lemon.

Not worth it

TV turns on by itself randomly. At one point, it would not turn on, had to unplug. Picture is great if you sit right in front, move a bit and it whitewashes. Not good at all for gaming, lags worse than a 5 year old 60hz 1080p, gave me a headache. I was going to exchange for same but I'm not trusting this brand, Going to pay more for a more known brand. PS. As I'm writing this review, the TV turned on by itself twice

Would not buy this TV

First, the color gamut required a lot of adjustment to get it acceptable. With the settings in the default position, the reds and greens are very neon and unrealistic. Second, which was a show-stopper, the speaker output gets very low and tinny sounding. The TV has to be disconnected from the ac power source and then reconnected. For this reason, I returned the TV. Too bad because I really wanted a Roku smart TV. I went back to old Sony XBR TV and a stand alone Roku device.

Unreliable and dead under 2 years. AVOID!!!

After having 3-4 issue with the sound popping over the last 12 months, the TV is now completely dead. The power button won't turn it on, the remote won't turn it on, and all of the troubleshooting directions from TCL do not work. We now have to pay hundreds to have this TV fixed. Avoid at all costs.

In cases like this, if you purchased an extended warranty, you may want to reach out to see if you can file a warranty claim through the extended warranty company. Furthermore, if you purchased using a credit card, some credit card companies also provide additional coverage. Do not buy!

Additionally the audio switches to speech mode. Turning the TV on and off does not work. I end up having to unplug it from the wall to fix it. The video looks great when it works. I tried to live with the app thing by only using an Amazon stick to view hulu and Netflix, but the audio thing is driving me crazy.

We are 9 months in and the TV just died. Thankfully it's within the 12 month warranty period. We just opened a warranty ticket and we will see how it goes.

No more TCL’s for me

Contacted TCL and did troubleshooting and resets. They did a “one time courtesy” and sent out a new $8 remote. That remote did pair with the TV but then the TV sound started sounding like a tin can through a cell phone and the screen would randomly go static. Back it went, happy Best Buy return policy is good!
