Great Purchase!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I visited Best Buy on Thanksgiving looking to cheaply upgrade our older, 42" living room TV. Despite a sales rep raving about the TCL, brand loyalty and recognition led me to stick with the $399 Samsung 6300 50" I was already holding on to. Once home, not only did I find that the 50" is not a big upgrade from 42", but the Samsung had few issues to which I needed to return it (input button not working, couldn't connect to wifi). I spent the rest of the night researching the biggest and best TV black Friday had to offer in the $300-500 range, and found that the TCL was consistently getting high ratings. The next morning, I swapped the the Samsung for the TCL, and I've a happy camper since. If you are looking to buy on a budget like I was and can get over a sort of generic looking "TCL" logo at the bottom, I really think you'd be hard pressed to find a superior 55" TV in the $400 price range ($379 in my case). The colors are great and 4k video looks amazing. I haven't learned all the technical aspects of today's TV's, but I know I enjoy the picture more than the Samsung (in all fairness, I could not access apps or my Firestick to test the 4k). I have ample HDMI inputs (compared to only 2 with the Samsung). And just to be clear, I'm not hating on Samsung as much as I am touting the prowess of the TCL. I gather that one I bought was their "entry level" UHD TV, I will likely still consider the brand again when I'm ready to sell out some $$$$ on a more high end TV. As mentioned on other reviews, if quality is your aim then yes, there is better to be bought, but if you're seeking a solid TV on limited budget, you can't go wrong here. My only downsides with this TV is that with the nature of the remote, I have to keep other remotes close by as well, and I do wish I could control the soundbar through the TV (according to a reviewer, it can be done, maybe brand specific).

Stopped Working

I bought the extra Geek Squad protection, but they didn't seem interested in helping me, sending me to TCL directly. They aren't being quick about sending someone out to fix it, or very good at communicating.

Image quality bad and prepare yourself to buy a new one after 12 to 16 months, or overpay for extended warranty. If you’re swatching something that has dark image you’ll see white spots all over. You can access the Options menu on the TV by pressing the asterisk (*) button on your remote while watching content. Additionally, you can access advanced picture settings by downloading the free Roku mobile app on a smartphone or tablet. Has sound but no picture

I’ve tried resetting it & a couple other suggestions I’ve found online but still no picture. Right after turning the tv on I can see the TLC Roku title screen quickly but then the picture goes black again.

I could hear the sounds of going through the menu but just couldn’t see anything. Super disappointed
