Price is right, picture is wrong
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. Can’t argue with price, but having a hard time with picture. Replacing this with 6 year old Panasonic and Panasonic was much better. Do you really have to use rtings.com and expert picture settings to adjust? Or are people happy with out of the box specs?

Little Disappointing
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I must say that I'm a bit disappointed with this TV. It's no one big thing I'm disappointed in, it's just a lot of little things that accumulate into my disappointment. I was very hesitant to buy an off brand I've never heard of before but to be honest the amazing reviews on here & youtube are what swayed me into giving it a go. I find myself wishing I had spent an additional $150-$200 for a Samsung TV. This is definitely a kids or guest room TV & I regret my purchase 100%. I've had a Roku streaming stick for the last 7 years so I know that it's not Roku...it's the poor TV design & navigation I dislike. Here are a few of the reasons I dislike this TV. SOUND: The sound is not great but there are several sound options that make a considerable difference! I use Theater as my default for watching TV & movies but I like to stream Spotify while I'm cleaning up around the house. The sound is TERRIBLE when you play music in theater or the default auto sound mode, so you have to switch it to Music mode...thing is, you can only access the TV settings to change the sound when you're watching TV. You can't even access it when you're on the main Roku Home screen or while in APP! It's very irritating. REMOTE: The remote is very finicky. It feels very cheap & low quality compared to my Roku streaming stick remote. 99% of the time, it takes clicking the power button two or three times before the TV will power down. You have to aim the remote DIRECTLY at the center of the TV in order for it to work. My old roku remote didn't require any pointing, it just worked...even while entangled under the blankets on the couch with me. No need to uncover it, & point. I was able to set up my Uverse Remote to the TV, thankfully. It's just as bad though, in regards to the power button. Which is how I know it's the TV. PICTURE: The picture quality looks great from far away...I do not have HD or anythihng like that with my cable but I did sign up for 4k UHD on Netflix just to test the picture quality. My aunt has a Samsung 4k Smart TV & the picture is impeccable! I tried out a few different movies in 4k UHD & again, it looks great far away but when you're up closer to the TV, it actually looks very very blurry. TV: The TV itself has three buttons on the underside in the center..but there is no designated power button! You can find your way to power down but you have to navigate to it. I've never owned a TV that doesn't have a designated power button & it's just so annoying.

Posted .Hi SoHa,
Thank you for providing your feedback. We're sorry to hear that you were not satisfied with your TV and that you were not able to see the same great picture quality a majority of our customers are seeing. We have glowing reviews on many professional reviewing sites and also from our customers. So it is a bit baffling to hear otherwise. We find that most of our customers are more than thrilled with the performance of our TV. You can also download the free Roku app on your smart phone or tablet to use with your TCL Roku TV. By using the app you can use voice search, voice control, and experience private listening. There is a dedicated power button located underneath the IR sensor on the bottom middle of the TV. We will continue to make improvements to ensure our customers the best experience possible. Happy viewing!
Thank you,
Sara

Nice TV, Very Smart
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Versatile addition in our home theater. Superb picture quality. ROKU functionality is extremely fast and quite intuitive. Thin bezeled frame makes for a thoroughly modern design. I am very positive about this product and hope that it delivers performance for years.

System Keeps Crashing
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. We bought the $399 TCL Roku 55" television for Christmas (bought in November, but Delivered December 22). The television worked great for the first three months. About two weeks ago, it crashed. The screen went to the opening red Roku screen, then would flash off, then back to the red screen again, then flash off again, over and over. We did everything we could find: removed the batteries from the remote, unplugged, and replugged, and ended up doing a hard reset to factory settings several times with TCL support on the phone. After HOURS of this, the television finally rebooted to factory settings, and we had to reinstall all of our apps. Last week (one week after this hard reset), Hulu logged us out. I assumed it was a Hulu thing because the other apps were still working. Then last night, it flashed/crashed/flashed/crashed again. We tried doing the hard reset, unplug, replug, steps again, but it didn't work. We tried calling support, but they were closed because we live on the West Coast. I would steer clear of this television. We're going to be talking to Best Buy about a return so that we can get a reliable television.

Three years later

Excellent Entry 4K TV
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. With the Roku system, this TCL is hard to beat. As a bonus its a 4k display. The only minor drawback is that it could be a bit brighter. However, I would definitely buy another TCL brand tv.

Pretty good so far, with a few caveats
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. So far it looks great, but I have some gripes: - I can't find a way to turn the audio off and rely fully on the optical out. I want to disable the internal speakers. - The USB stays on for ~15 minutes once you turn off the TV. This is annoying for those of us with bias lighting. - The Roku remote doesn't have a built in headphone jack like I'd get with any decent Roku unit. This is also an annoying feature to lack. All in all, it's fine? I thought having a built in roku would be like having a roku but it's definitely missing some common sense features. If you're looking for a cheap TV with basic function, this is the one to get.

Disappointed
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. When I first perchised the tv I was impressed with the size, picture quality, apps. About 4 months later the right side of the screen become extreamly dark, I wasn’t able to see words, pictures, movies because everything on the right side was dark. And the left side was bright. Thank God I had insurance on it and return the tv and went for a different brand this time. Very disappointed that this happened.

Great TV for the price

Great value
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. We’ve had our Tv for two months now. Great picture easy to set up and install. My oonly complaint is that Roku does not offer tech-support for Slingbox.

Saved by the holiday return policy.
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I bought this TV to replace a nearly decade old plasma model, Black Friday, etc... Got it home and was pleased. At under $400 I was very happy. Cut to Jan 1st, loud pop and a black screen, surge protector not blown and everything else is just fine, TKO on the tv though. Thankfully with the holiday return policy I can return and avoid using the manufacturers warranty(parts and labor.) All this being said... I enjoyed the tv for the two months that it worked, though I'd recommend protection on this one.

Roku, Get it Together
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Okay, I would love this TV if not for the awful, unintuitive home screen. The UI is outdated, super awkward, and most importantly, it has advertisements. Why are there ads on something that I paid full price for? Why are there obtrusive, massive portions of the screen dedicated to "start your free trial today"? Why is the TV remote an advertisement for Netflix, Hulu, and other providers? Why, why, why a lot of things. Roku has seriously screwed me over with this TV. I hate advertisements -- it's just another waste of data and an intrusive way of tracking your activity down. I'm very tempted to return it just because there are advertisements that I can't remove on a TV I paid full price for.

Great Smart TV, Poor Picture
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. We opted for this TV after a lot of research and thousands of very positive and optimistic reviews. Plus, you can't beat the price on this thing. We were skeptical about going with a brand that was unfamiliar to us but decided it was worth a shot after so many positive reviews. Unfortunately we were severely let down. Unboxing and setting up this TV was a breeze. The Roku platform is very convenient and easy to use. Unfortunately, after we finally navigated through the menus to get to live TV and check out the picture, we were very disappointed. The picture on this television leaves a lot to be desired. Colors are dull, pictures are blurry and the refresh rate looks atrocious - watching live football was painful. We checked out multiple channels and multiple sources and agreed that this just wasn't the TV for us. It was boxed up and back in the store on the return shelf within 4 hours of the original purchase. We ended up going with a Samsung which was $50 more. The Samsung doesn't have nearly the smart capabilities of this TCL but we decided that picture was much more important to us. Spend the extra $50 on a Samsung or higher quality TV and hook it up to a Roku, Apple TV, FireTV or any other streaming device, you'll be a lot happier with your purchase.
