Died after 18 months! Buy a VIZIO!!

I read the reviews, purchased the 55" TCL. 18 months later, I came home from work and it was dead. I called support, did the troubleshooting. "Unfortunately, you have two options. 1. Call your CC company and see if they will cover it on insurance. 2. A local tv repair shop." This is still a new tv in my mind. Why it would die is beyond me. I realize that electronics fail from time to time, but REALLY?!? I purchased the TCL, brought it home and hung it on my wall, all on the same day. It's never been moved. Meanwhile, I've temporarily replaced it with a 2007 VIZIO that spent years in my bedroom, then nine years on a warehouse wall (With not ac. Temps reached well above 95 degrees regularly.). I had recently moved the VIZIO to a new warehouse and now I've moved and remounted it again. IT WORKS GREAT! TCL reviews seem to be generally written too early. It's sad.

Great TV but no 5.1 passthrough???

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

After extensive research and looking at lots of reviews I settled on this TV as the most bang for the buck I could get. It fared a lot better than more expensive TV sets in many reviews. One area it surpassed them was supposedly passing through the 5.1 signal over hdmi arc. However, no matter what I did, my Xbox One S will only recognize my sound system (Vizio SB3851) as stereo. I wound up using a optical cable directly to my sound system from the Xbox One S which is not what I wanted. If I can figure it out, I will update my rating to five stars.

    Poor image quality

This is a very easy to install TV set. But the picture quality is rather very poor, bad contrast - no true black and no vivid color contrast. Very bad visual of darker colored scenes.

TCL stands for totally crappy line

We bought this TV because everyone seemed to be buying this brand . We bought in March 2018. It worked well for about 8 months and then the screen went black. There was sound but no picture. They sent a tech over and he said the back light led went bad. TCL replaced with a refurbished unit. That lasted about 11 months and the same thing happened. Since I'm out of the manufacturers warranty period, TCL basically said I'm S.O.L . Given the amount of negative reviews regarding this issue of the black screen, there should be a class action lawsuit against TCL . Never again will I buy another TCL product. Pure manure. Dont waste your time or money. Tcl, you lost my business.

We've had this TV for almost 2 years, it went out completely last night... won't even turn on from the remote or the TV (yes we checked the batteries and yes its plugged in) We called TCL to try snd troubleshoot it but they weren't able to help either, not even a factory reset...total bummer! We are out of a TV now. Not the best if you ask me.

This is one of the best purchases I've made. The resolution on the TV is great and the TV runs really fast. I had a 43" Haier Roku TV and this is definitely an upgrade.

2 years later, the screen started flickering last night and nothing we could do stopped it. Very disappointed in this TV, since the picture was great for the money, while it lasted. Sticking to true and tried brands from hereafter.

Disappointed after reading so many reviews...

Pic is good enough. I cannot get the color adjusted properly and the skin of people on the TV looks orange and it is a little distracting. I contemplated for MONTHS about this TV. I have no issues with the black coloring but the yellow skin tone is irritating. I would not buy this TV again. Instead, I would spend the extra money to get a more established brand.

    Don't last long at all

Don't last long at all Came home last night and the TV turned itself on (which scared me pretty bad coming in and live alone to find the TV on) Stuck on pink "recovery" screen Keep going through the steps but just brings me right back to that pink screen. Called the company and we did several things to reboot the TV but no luck. DON'T buy this brand! They don't last very long at all. Buy a name brand that has been around for at least a decade and check the reviews before buying Also the sound is terrible on these after a month have to turn it way up to at least 75 to hear anything

While TCL t.v.'s are affordable, they don't last! Ours died after 3 years and TCL believes that is an acceptable life span and invited me to purchase a new one! No thank you! Would not recommend them to anyone!

Don’t waste your money! I’ve owned the TV for 1 year and 3 months. Right after warranty ends the HDMI cable connections fail. Spent hours on tech support with no help. Buy any other manufacturer than TCL. They don’t stand behind their product.

    Problems with TCL/Roku TV

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

Bought a 55-inch TCL smart tv from Best Buy 1/12/2018. It behaved very well for a month or so. Then it started powering up with picture but no sound. The only solution was to go into Settings and do a "complete" factory reset. This restored the sound -- but it erased all Roku account information (email, password, etc.). All this info must re-entered from the Roku remote one character at a time (arrow keys to maneuver around an on-screen keypad) followed by a Roku log-in at a computer to get an activation code to finish the process. Silly stuff. The TCL tv is now forgetting audio several times a week, each episode requiring a factory reset. But I've switched Netflix access to a 12-year-old blu-ray player with an HDMI output. I canceled the Roku account to skip the aggravation. Who needs them, anyway? Obviously there are some software/firmware problems with this TCL tv. Likewise, the Roku remote is cheap and troublesome. A bad combination. Buying a tv? Keep looking. Buy something else.

    The backlight will die

Bought in 2018, worked very well up until two weeks ago where now the backlight will not function. I can turn it on, see a quick flash of the start-up screen before it goes completely black. The TV works because I can hear the changes moving through the tiles and changing the volume and turning the TV off, but I cannot see anything. I was able to fix it once by unplugging everything and re-plugging but it's happening again and now idk what else to do to fix it. It's a 55" paperweight in my living room. 2.5 years of use and....well...now it's useless.

Have had for 3 years. The past 6 months the connection to Netflix is so slow and is constantly refreshing. Better w Hulu and Amazon but the delay is very slow. I have Roku sticks on other TV's and don't have this problem . I now have higher speed internet than when I first got this. I wouldn't think after 3 short years a TV would work so poorly. :(

My Large screen TCL TV had a great picture, but it "died" after only 2 years and 4 months. Built in obsolescence? All my previous TVs lasted a decade or more. I suggest buying the extended warranty when buying a TCL.

The picture looks fine but I have had issues with connecting to the internet. It connected the first time I hooked it up but since then it has been hit or miss. I purchased this tv because of the Roku and I can't use it without internet connection. I would probably purchase a different tv if I had to do it again.
