A warning on buying a TCL 65 Roku TV
Posted .

After receiving my TCL 65" Roku TV and turning it on, it showed a crack in the glass and the big black circle at the bottom of the screen, I called TCL as they showed a Warranty of a year. The guy had me do tests on it for over 1 hour, then it would not even work anymore. I had to send many pictures of the bad flaw, they now tell me that the warranty does not cover this as it promised in their AD. You will regret buying a TCL TV. My rating on this is a big 0. Don't buy one. Now to see if Best Buy will replace it with a different brand. Now my many relatives and friend that wanted to see if it was as good as advertised, not one of them will buy a TCL. REMEMBER, YOU HAVE BEEN WORN OF THIS BAD TV AND BAD WARRANTY SERVICE FROM TCL!

Hi Troykoo,
At TCL, all of our TVs and packing are designed to withstand the rigors of shipping, but sometimes things happen that are out of our control. We take great measures to ensure that the TVs we send out are in great working condition. Regrettably, physical damage would not be covered by the manufacturer's warranty. In the event that you received a damaged product, it would be handled by the retailer. Best of luck!
Thank you,

Good...for the price

For the price, it's alright. Nothing to complain about the picture quality, BUT THE SOUND IS HORRIBLE. If you go above volume 12, it sounds like you're listening to a fuzzy radio. And you can't hear anything under 12. If I could do it all over again, I'd spend an extra couple hundred on a better quality version.

Sounds like it is time for a class action! Our 4 yr old TCL 55” S401 also went black due to backlight failure. TV’s should last at least 10 years. Fool me once.

Bought the tv last year (and a week ago to be exact) and what do you know! The tv screen stops working though you can hear sounds of remote working. Called tcl support only for them to tell me that they don’t know what’s wrong and I have to cover the repair (to which there is no physical damage) myself. What a rip off. This tv just so happens to have technical issues a week after the warranty is up. Don’t waste your money

Bought it 2018 and it’s already dead. It’s the black screen of death which apparently TCL TV’s are famous for. I guess I should have done my research.

I bought my tv December 2017 and today, the screen went to total black. The trouble shooting guide said to hit the factory reset and I did that. Nothing. It is still not working. The tv comes on and there is sound, but no picture. There is no fix for it and it is just over the warranty, so I am out a tv that I was enjoying!

If you are using Netflix to watch Dolby Vision HD optimised movies or series, prepare to stare at a dark almost blacked out screen. Almost impossible to discern what is happening on the screen. Other than that the TV is pretty good for the price.

We bought our 55" TCL at Best Buy. It had great picture and sound, so we were happy with it. Within a year the screen went black, but we still had sound. As it was still under warranty they did come out and fix it. Fast forward to the other night. Turned on the TV, saw a flicker, then a black screen and this time with no sound. No indication that there was a problem, just suddenly gone. I will not buy another TCL.

Up until this point, I would have given this TV a 5 star rating. But today, 1 year later (and two months after the warranty expired) the TV screen stopped working. Sound is still there, but only a black screen.
It is really frustrating when things like this happen and literally right after warranties expire.

We purchased a 43” TCL tv. It stopped working after 13 months.
The good news is TCL extended the warranty and sent us a new tv. Time to see how long this one lasts. Thank you TCL.

What a disappointing piece of technology. Had this going on the 4th year now and for some reason i had it on all of 2 minuets this morning and the screen just went black. After souring the internet for solutions it seems that its very common for this Brand of television. Glad i kept the tv i had that this one replaced becuase its 13 years old with never a problem.

Started out great, we got this on black Friday 2017 and were happy with the screen quality. Fast forward to Feb 2019 (out of warranty) now there are faint lines slowly scrolling up the screen. Not happy.

22 months to failed 55” TCL Series 4 LED Smart TV!
Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.
October 22 2020 - this 55S425 just failed after 22 months with failed LED backlighting.
Do not put your money into TCL-branded LED TVs. I bought my 55” TCL Series 4 LED Smart Roku TV at Best Buy December 2018 - 22 months ago - and It's been great - but the LED backlighting just failed. That's it - the TV has failed. Researching solutions to this problem online, I discovered MANY others who have the same problem with their TCL TVs: the LEDs failed relatively early in the TCL TV's life - which should be 10-15 years. The various fixes to correct the problem - such powering down, factory reset, etc., failed - and that leaves failure of the LEDs that backlight the screen.
Since I am not a TV repairman, I don't plan to buy replacement LED strips, tear down my 55" TV all the way the screen, check various other components for possible failure using diagnostic tools I neither own nor know how to use, and hope that solves the LED problem. No, the TV should be working - period. The 1-year product warranty by TCL is inadequate but serves that company well - at my expense. So, I will take the $500 loss and look at a better 55" TV brand - possibly from a different supplier, since BestBuy clearly doesn't vet it's vendors especially well: the failure of TCL TVs is well documented now. I wish this was clear 2 years ago.

I purchased this TV on May 20, 2018. I picked up and installed on May 21, 2018. Today June 6, 2019 I was watching it and it was working fine then the screen was black. The picture was gone. Of course 16 days after the warranty expires I have a TV that no longer has a picture and I will have to purchase another TV. It will definitely not be a TCL or any type of Roku TV because this is the second time this has happened with a Roku TV. The first time was a Insignia Roku TV so I bought a TCL Roku TV and once again the same thing. At least the Insignia TV lasted almost 2 years.
