Banding or $200?

While researching TV's, it basically came down to this or the Vizio P-Series, which cost $200 more, and seemed to have very similar features and performance as the TCL 6 series. The only thing that made me hesitate about the TCL, was the reports of vertical banding and DSE. Having deciding to risk it, I'm glad I did. I think it's best to assume that all of the 6 series have some amount of banding and DSE. Honestly, I notice the Halo-effect caused by the full array backlighting much more than I do the banding.
What you have to ask yourself, is how bothersome will these imperfections be? In my case, no. I don't notice it during 99% of my viewing, and it's just not worth $200 to me to potentially eliminate it.

Prior to purchasing this TV, I performed a lot of research.
I read reviews and watched YouTube videos and decided that for my needs, this TV would be perfect for my PS4 Pro.
It is 4K, has a built in Roku, the price was not overly expensive.
Have not had any issues and if you have used a Roku before, this TV is easy to use.

I have a LG B7 65" in my LR. It has a breathtaking picture, but the price tag was equally breathtaking, as is the paranoia around potential burn-in. Got this 55" TCL 615 for my BR. I've been impressed. You really get 85-90% of the performance of an OLED for a fraction of the cost. And no burn-in risk ( I don't think). Blacks are the best I've ever seen in an LED screen, by far. This TV does a lot right and nothing really wrong, PQ-wise. Almost but not quite OLED. Everything from sports to recent 4k Netflix shows to Blu-rays of old B&W films look great. Remote is the only thing that's subpar. It's very cheap feeling. It lacks heft and above all is extremely slippery in the hand. The middle button on the purple D pad doesn't stick out, so it's hard to find with your thumb. Does the job, but the remote from my Roku 3 circa 2013 is so much better. Speakers suck - but that's true of any TV, really. I got a soundbar. With all that said, I'm very happy with this TV for my BR. Great picture and sleek looking. Can't imagine a better value out there in a 4k TV.

Best Buy for a 4K Ultra HD under $1,000

Decided it was time to upgrade from my 50” LG Plasma to a 4K.
After researching several models, decided on the TCL Roku 55”.
This TV is the best bang for your buck when spending under $1,000.
The picture is clear with great bright colors. The only caveat is I wish the remote was voice activated.

Great picture for the money. Poor Sound quality.

Great picture but speaker buzz at volume level of 27+. This TV needs a sound bar.
To support privacy listening of cable box channels, I had to purchase a Digital Optical to 3.5mm converter, because TCL has a break-before-make headphone port that turns off the TV speakers when you insert a 3.5mm male connector into the port. With the port access in the back right side of the TV, you have to get behind the TV to connect and disconnect the headphone jack every time you wish to listen privately this way. To remedy this, I connected a Digital Optical converter to the TV's Toslink port and then connected the output of the converter to a wireless headphone adapter. Now I just pair the wireless adapter to a set of wireless earbuds and mute the TV speakers. On video streaming, you just put the Roku app on your cell phone and the app lets you select headphones which then mutes the TV speakers.

Definitely the best TV I've ever owned. Picture is awesome and it's super easy to use/set up. I actually use the remote that came with it, which is surprising. I always end up using universal remotes. I've also been impressed with the TCL service. I'll stick with this brand.

The TCL 55R615 definitely has the best UI I've seen on a TV. Everything feels fast and looks good. We love the streaming apps being included, because we don't watch cable.
Start Netflix and watch Altered Carbon in 4k + Dolby Vision, it is a dream! We hooked our computer up to the TV, so we can play games like Mass Effect 4 on it - it looks amazing. I was really fascinated by how much you get for so little money. But still, I can't recommend this TV to my friends.
While watching soccer or a video with a bright background (skies) it is too obvious that this TV has banding issues. Vertical pans in incredible shows like Westworld just leave the impression behind that something is wrong.

Returned my previous two-day-old TV to buy this

I returned a Vizio D-Series 55" TV two days after purchasing it at Walmart after seeing all of the positive reviews for this model‚ and because the Vizio did not have the motion interpolation I wanted (me at the time thinking 'Motion Rate' and 'interpolation' would result in the same thing)‚ which this one does have. The blacks on this TV are outstanding‚ and are as dark as if the TV were off. The colors are brilliant‚ the upscaling is fantastic (1080p)‚ and the interface is great‚ although there is some odd frame rate drops when adjusting the volume. As others have mentioned the grey uniformity is poor‚ but not really noticeable enough for me to care watching most movies and TV shows. The external build quality and thick heavy-feeling metal frame add to the premium feel of the TV. Although it was $150 more expensive than the Vizio I returned‚ I do not at all regret the upgrade.

Amazing quality, price, and other features. 4K HDR with local dimming looks great for the price. Best/Highest quality LED 4K HDR TV at this price point in market right now. Games looks great in 4K HDR on my Xbox One X, and so does all other 4K/4K HDR content.

I had researched the heck out of this TV and decided to just do it. I have absolutely no regrets
The setup takes a few minutes, but once setup I connected to Netflix and streamed “our planet”. I’ve watched it several times and this was the most beautiful thing I’ve ever seen on tv.
The dynamic contrast is breath taking. My kids just stared in wonder.
Then I put on a 4K Blu-ray how to train your dragon “the new one”. The opening scene and the underground scene really show off the capabilities of this tv. The bright flames with the dark smoke. And in the underground with all the colors!
If you have an older HD tv or one of those cheep $99 dollar TVs this is a huge upgrade! With Samsung I’d compare to the q7 in picture quality and color. In Sony the 800 series, Vizio quantum m series.

Amazing picture quality, super easy to use, and at a good bargain! I do wish the feet on the TV were a little farther towards the center, they hang off the edge of my TV stand quite a bit, but being just a cosmetic detail, that's not a big deal.

This was replacing a older (yet still working) 42" Samsung Plasma from 2009. After disabling all the motion filters (advance picture settings) I was able to enjoy plasma like refresh rates. I didn't have any UHD Blurays but HDR/Vision content on youtube and netflix works great! I was also able to get plex to direct stream UHD content with HDR enabled after I set the setting from AUTO to FORCE. Picture is bright and colors pop in 1080 and 4K. Once you get into 4K there is no escape you will want everything at the highest resolution and bit rate. My suggestion to those upgrading from 720 or 1080 content take time to ensure you have high bitrate content. I was amazed at how bad 2.2 Mbps streams looked. Once I tried a 1080 @ 22 Mbps it was great. Upgrading to 4K @ 50+ Mbps with HDR you can tell the difference!!!

I'm upgrading from a Sony KDL46HX800 46'' that I bought in 2010 (it still works, just moving to kids playroom).
Picture: Looks awesome.
4k Content: Limited but theres more and more every month.
Cons: Getting this thing to work with my Yamaha RX-V377BL was a bit of a nightmare. I ended up unplugging and plugging back in all my cables, made sure ARC was enabled and then it kind of just magically worked. It does concern me that it will just "magically" stop working at some point. I give this a 1 star as TCL support seems fairly quiet on the issue. If it keeps happening this TV will go back.

TCL 55" Series 6 4K

Second TCL purchase. First one was the S405, which is very good quality for the $350 tag. This 6 series version lives up to its hype as one of the best value priced 4K TV out there. Picture is excellent, sharp and bright. Roku is better than most other Smart TV app options. Only drawback is that it skimps on HDMI ports with only 3 and that the inputs are shifted all the way to the right side (4 series is on left) which means that my 6ft cables won't reach.
Otherwise very happy with this purchase.

I had been researching TVs for months before I pulled the trigger on this one.
After seeing all the reviews for banding issues, I quickly checked mine upon set up and luckily won the panel lottery, no issues as far as I could see.
I went from a standard HD tv about 6 years old to this, and wow. You really can't go wrong for the price if you are looking for an upgrade. Obviously some other sets will be fancier but if you are looking for a high quality picture smart TV, this is probably the best for the price.
I was blown away by some of the content. Definitely needs a sound bar, but was expected after seeing the reviews. I can not wait for Christmas when I buy a console and start gaming on it... I bet it will look incredible.

I bought the 2017 P series and within the 15 day return period the new 6 series came out. I thought the P series was a good TV, but this one is even better. The metal frame just looks so much classier than the black plastic frame from last year. The picture is incredible. It could just be that I've been messing with the advanced picture settings, but I feel like as good as the P series was this picture is much better. I've never used Roku other than these TV's, but so far I really like it. Even more than our apple TV. The only thing I wasn't a big fan of was the packaging, but honestly who really cares about that. But if you are going to need to return it good luck repackaging it. Worth every penny. Definitely the best bang for your buck.
