Great picture quality with cutting edge interface. Roku works very well. I don't need an extra cable box with the awesome selection of apps.

Excellent picture! Too bad about the Audio lag ..

The 4k ultra delivers a fantastic picture!
Were that the only criteria I'd have given 5 stars.
But...
I also purchased a nice Visio 5.1 Soundbar, and the TCL Roku TV has a problem feeding it. I have a good 1/2 second lag, which is highly noticeable.
So I'm deducting two stars:
- One for the lag and the lack of a fix, and
- One because TCL doesn't give a squat about it, and has no intention to fix it.

Hard to judge with only 4K material

I want to give this set a favorable review. The issue isn't with the set, the issue is Best Buy needs to provide 1080P material as we get from the cable providers....even 720P in some areas. I want to see how it upscales the signal and how well the 24P footage is In regards to motion blur.
So until I can see this set with a local cable feed, I have to remain neutreal and urge everyone to ask for regular HD footage ...for ALL SETS REVIEWED.

Turns itself off

Had this TV about 2 weeks. Since the day I got it the TV has turned itself off intermittently. I had it on all day today and it has done it twice so far.It did it once yesterday. I disabled the auto off feature that turns it off after 4 hours of inactivity in the power settings. That did not help. It just turned off tonight after watching an hour long show on a roku app, so I know I pressed the button within the last 4 hours. It has two ways in which is turns off. The first is that it you are just watching tv antenna, roku, or firestick, and it shuts off. Press power on and it immediately turns back on. The other way is when browsing around on the home screen. When it shuts off while browsing the home screen the LED light comes on (I have it set to off all the time). Then when you press the on button it apparently reboots showing the red screen while the LED flashes. Automatic updates are on and it updated when I first used it. I am very disappointed. I have to box it back up and return it now, wasting my time and gas money. This TV turned out to be no value at all. I should have purchased a name brand instead of taking a chance with a TCL. Picture is fine, roku is fine, pausing live tv is nice, but it seems the firmware is unstable.

I wanted to love this TV (please read)

Guys- I did ALL the research in the world and REALLY wanted to love this TV. I have the 65" 6 series in the living room and it truly is worth the price (and a great value at that), HOWEVER, with this 55" model, I lost the Panel lottery not once but twice.
Trying to watch the NHL playoffs or pan the screen on Red Dead 2 is simply awful. Golf and football lovers, the same goes for you, awful. Once you see the dirty screen, you can never go back.
True story- I went to the store to swap out the units and saw TWO boxes of this same 55" 6 series on the shelves as defective for returns. You have to wonder if BB dropped the price on these $100 to move them out in the hopes people won't notice how bad the DSE is.
Aside from that, everything looks great and you cannot beat what is inside this box for $499, but I cannot pay that price to strike out twice on the panel lottery.
I returned mine (again) and booked an order for a Sony X900F (double the price) and hope this panel is MUCH better.

This TV is fantastic! Love all its feature for the price it cant be beat. Only negative feed back the Dolby Vision support for Xbox one X states that it has an older version that is not supported. It has been like this now for a few months. TCL when will this be fixed?? Also wish it had better PC support in native 4:4:4 Chroma if so please provide detailed information. Other than those 2 opportunities would recommend to any one looking to jump in to the 4k world!

I bought the latest and greatest 55' tcl R615 about a month ago. Everything was great. I am a gamer, I was very impressed with the graphic production on my Xbox one X. Last night I turned my Xbox off, switched back to my home screen and the screen went black. I've unplugged it for extended periods of time, factory reset the device as instructed in the company's troubleshooting post and nothing has changed. I emailed TCL about this issue and I've heard nothing back. To tell you the truth I'm furious. I'm not a wealthy person, I busted my butt to get this tv. And now this happens followed by a lack in customer service. Quite easily the most disappointing sequence of events in my experience in tech.

Lost the "Panel Lottery"

After reading hundreds of different reviews of various models of 4K sets, I finally decided to go with the hype and give one of these a shot, despite my reservations about TCL's reputation. I visited my local Best Buy to confirm in person that the picture was as good as advertised, and wasn't blown away by it... but that's also likely due to the fact that these sets are fairly difficult to find at Best Buy, buried behind a sea of LG and Samsung displays and brand reps. Wade through this and you might actually find these, buried in the back next to some budget sets the sales reps *really* do not want you to buy.
Nevertheless, I persisted, and went home with the 55" version. As soon as I got home and unboxed the set, mere minutes after setting up the Roku system, I noticed a thin red vertical line through the entire screen. This would only appear when certain colors were displayed, but it was obviously a factory defect.
The set immediately got returned to the store, and I went with a more expensive Samsung NU8000 instead.
I wanted to love this thing. I really did. I gave it a shot, and it failed me.

Reviews shouldn't be written until you've had the product for a year. First problem was 4 months into ownership when the TV froze and I had to reset everything. Inconvenient, but not the end of the world. A month after the warranty was over the screen started coming on as gray with no picture. This is a KNOWN issue with this TV. Hundreds of articles about it on the TCL website alone. Yet, TCL will do nothing as our warranty expired a month ago. Don't waste your money! Unless you're okay with buying a new TV every year.

Loss of HDMI audio, blank video, and some banding
Posted .

After a few days of troubleshooting, I'm returning this unit to the store today for 3 major problems. I just can't justify spending any more time trying to make this unit work again.
(1) abrupt loss of audio out via HDMI-ARC (HDMI #3). All audio functions were working as expected until day before yesterday. Out of the blue, there was no audio out of anything sourced from the TV, including all streaming apps, all media files played from USB, and any media file streamed from my internal network using the Roku Media Player. Yes, I tried switching out all my HDMI cables, and yes, all cable are HDMI 2.whatever compatible. The audio from TV speakers and streaming through the Android app did work. This indicates an HDMI problem to me.
(2) noticeable horizontal and vertical banding when displaying full screens of white and various shades of gray. I have screenshots I will bring to the store. This is a known quality control problem for this brand/model. Will the next unit the store has in stock be any different?
(3) twice lost partial video when streaming and pass thru video, in that, for example, when playing a Netflix video, the ratings would show in the upper left corner of the screen, but no video, yet oddly, when fast forwarding, I could see the thumbnails of screens passing by, but when play is pushed, the screen is still dark but you can hear audio (when audio was working).
I've completed factory resets three times now and that did fix the video and audio problems temporarily, but they inevitably return = unacceptable. It's important to note that after the first set up, everything worked as expected for about a week, then things started randomly going wrong - with no changes to that original configuration.
I will repackage and bring back to store and take my chances that another unit in their stock will be better. Not feeling confident.
Other than that, it has an excellent picture when displaying from 4k & Dolby Vision sources.
