    Vertical Banding Issue (DSE)

Will be returning this unit because of the vertical banding issue. Vignetting is also an issue. Panning shots with uniform colors are painful to watch (think sports). Would be amazing value if not plagued by this issue. Seems to be a widespread problem after reading numerous complaints. Hope this is addressed in future production. Great TV but we returned it for the 65"

Awesome TV for the price! We bought the 55" & got it home but decided we could go bigger, so we returned it for the 65". The only complaint I have about either TV is the dinky remote (I am probably just old & miss my 90's style mega remote) & the sound is not near the quality the picture is. We will be getting a sound bar.

    Defective Within 2 Weeks

For the first 15 days I had this TV, I loved it. As other reviewers have pointed out, the picture is incredible and the User Interface is extremely smooth. The sound is unimpressive, but typical of a modern TV. From my initial impressions, I would rate this at 5 stars if it was working properly. Unfortunately, the TV LED backlight stopped working just over two weeks after I purchased the TV. I was watching a show and suddenly: nothing. I have been in contact with TCL customer service; their customer service has been very friendly and has sent someone to attempt to repair the TV, but they were unsuccessful and told me they will need to determine how to proceed. It has now been 2 weeks since I first contacted customer service. I am waiting for follow up information. I will update this review to reflect the functionality of the TV if a repair is successfully completed.

Stops working after 3 years--do NOT recommend

The first TCL TV that I purchased didn't work from the box, so when the second one stopped working 3-years later I've decided that TCL must be a poorly produced television. Perhaps it's just my own particular fate, but it seems surprising that _two_ TVs in my possession from TCL would be either a dud or just suddenly stop working. To give you a better sense of the TV that stopped working, let me explain. I used it periodically and it worked totally fine. One evening I was watching a show that I fell asleep to. The TV was on pause when I woke up. I turned it off and then the next morning discovered that the TV would turn on but offer no picture. I called TCL and did all the checks to see what happened. I just think it's bad manufacturing for a TV to go out so soon, and I wish I had read more reviews of the TV when I originally purchased this device. When it worked, the picture quality was terrific. I would say that the audio had a lag between it and the TCL Alto soundbar that I purchased. But that was no big deal. Just wish I had a working TV now. :-(

So, I purchased this t.v yesterday. I haven’t even had it 24 hours yet. The picture quality is very nice. I was actually enjoying the T.v until it started turning off by itself not really sure what’s going on. So, I will be exchanging it for the same t.v because maybe I just have a bad one in hopes the problem doesn’t continue. However, if it does continue I will be returning the t.v for good. I recommend everyone thinking about purchasing this t.v get a pertection plan.

    Worked great for 7 months

Purchased in January. Problems began in August. 1st issue, everyone else complains about is the screen bleed/shadows in white areas on screen. 2nd issue was RF sensor went bad. Contacted TCL regarding the screen burn issue and they offered to look at the TV if I sent it to their repair center......on my dime. No onsite warranty for this. Yeah, sure. I'm going to spend 200 dollars to mail my TV to them. Straw that broke the camels back was the RF issue. This issue cropped up about 2 weeks after the screen burn issue. The receiver just up and died suddenly with no warning. Again, TCL would not provide onsite service for this. Contacted my local BestBuy and the store manager graciously allowed me to return the tv and apply the purchase price towards a new TV. Also purchased the BestBuy 2 year protection plan that includes on site service. I purchased a different brand and so far so good! I had nothing but good things to say about TCL at first, but after getting stung by their poor customer service and poor reliability of their product, I cannot recommend the 55r615 to anyone. I usually do not write reviews, but felt buyers should be warned. This is a case of you get what you pay for unfortunately. The TV did have an outstanding picture for the 1st few months. Many online forums and review groups pitted the TCL above many of the Samsung, Sony and LG tvs in its class. I guess its a disposable tv? I'm thankful that BestBuy stepped up and made things right.

    Nice specs, with poor performance

I walked into Best Buy last weekend ready to buy this TV. What's not to like - built-in Roku, local dimming, 4k, and great price for 55"! Sadly seeing it in person, the TV just doesn't deliver on picture quality. All 4 corners are failing light up even on moderately bright scenes, on white scenes it's a gradient getting darker towards the corner. The colors are dark and washed out. I ended up paying $250 for one of the brand name TVs with adequate picture but admittedly worse Smart TV platform than Roku.

I primarily watch movies and sports on it and I can say that they both look really good. The 4K looks amazing. If you are on the fence about getting it I would highly recommend it, can't beat the price and quality.

Great price for the features BUT...

For the price, you are getting a number of high end features that are usually seen in sets twice the price, however, picture uniformity is a crap shoot for this series. My TV has DSE (dirty screen effect) and I cannot unsee it. I really like the set, however, the DSE is there and that disappoints me. I am currently in a wheelchair so having to return this is going to be a pain. I had the TV delivered. Any possibility that an exchange can be done via delivery of a new set and the exchange of this set? Can TCL and/or Best Buy support chime in on this?

TV overall is ok but the REMOTE!!!! the worst!

This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

I had this TV for about 5 months, and I could not stress it more, the remote will shy me away from ever purchasing a TCL tv, you have to point directly into the receiver, like a sniper!! Otherwise it would not work, the remote from your cellphone works so much better but its annoying since I don't want to use my cellphone as a remote. From so much frustration, I broke my remote! Lol.

If the features on this tv are what you are looking for then it is a steal for the price. However, since you are spending less the quality is what suffers. I had some issues with uniformity and not really noticing a big difference between a tv with local dimming and a tv without it due to poor panel quality. Perhaps poor quality control. Just make sure you are happy with your particular set. If you prefer great quality, you can spend an extra couple hundred dollars and get some amazing televisions from last year.

    Two words...."IMAGE ISSUES"

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

This is a 600$ Tv... with the image quality of a TV that costs that much, maybe slightly less. From gaming to movies, there is noise and ghosting around every corner. Is it a terrible TV? - No. Is it this "Grand Image Wizard" every review touts it to be? - No, absolutely not. You get what u pay for, the interface is solid, and easy to use. That's about all I'll say is 'SOLID' with this TV. If you want a killer 4K picture or a gaming TV, go with a Samsung. You get what u pay for I guess.

Poor QC but will be great for some people

I received my first set and it had horrific vertical banding. Replaced it and the second unit was better still not great. I did not have any issues with the corners which is worth mentioning. However this unit then started to turn itself off as it has happened to others. I did indeed return the second unit and grab a Vizio 55P. I would like to say that if you get a good panel and you strictly play games and watch movies in 4k this could be quite an amazing set for you considering the price point. If you watching sports with a uniform background and most importantly hockey you will find the dirty screen effect and banding just horrific and the game unwatchable. My girl friend whom doesn't really care about picture whatsoever asked me even on the second set "what are those lines" so in synopsis if you are viewing anything with a solid lighter background you will see the very bad grey uniformity. If this does not apply to yourself you have have very well found a great tv on the cheap as many reviews indicate. I hope this helps at least one person in their decision making one way or the other.
