Good Picture, Not the Best Build Quality

I've had it almost 2 years now. First off, picture is great. Much better than expected with this price range. The OS is a little laggy and not the most responsive but still is easy to use. Just wish they hadn't cheaped out on the hardware and made it a little quicker. Roku does advertise like mad on the home screen, and when watching live TV through an antenna, and by default is tracking your usage if you don't turn it off. And let's be real probably is even if you do opt out. The remote is pretty garbage but that's the case with all Roku so you know what you're getting there. Like I said the picture is great. But the build quality is clearly cheap. I've had a loose wire rattle against the chassis during low frequency sounds a couple times and every once in a while the picture will look like what's attached until I restart the system. They've been relatively minor inconveniences but I do always have in the back of my mind that the next one might not be so minor. Quality just could be better. If I had to do it again I'd probably buy a different TV. Even though I think the picture is good for the price, if you don't have TV's stood up right next to each other you'd never know. Not really worth it.

Amazing deal for everything you get! My TV has a slight banding issue that everyone has been talking about but it's very minor and almost unnoticeable unless you're REALLY looking for it. Besides, from what I've read, almost every LCD panel has this issue unless you win the "panel lottery" and get a perfect display. The picture quality is amazing, and after doing some research and setting up a new Samsung TV for a friend, the ROKU operating system is by far the best.

I made the switch from LED to this TCL 4K TV at the end of last year on the recommendation of a Best Buy in home service attendant. So far it’s been a great investment and much cheaper than some of the name brands most of us look for. Definitely recommend! Paired with a sounds system it makes watching tv and movies so much better!

The picture on this tv looks really good and it's a good deal for the price. That being said, the banding issue is real problem. The reviews you see about having to play the panel lottery are all true. If the banding is something that won't bother you then get this tv. Otherwise, I'd go with a different brand.

    Uniformity Nightmare

First off, let me say this: The new TCL looks STUNNING. The HDR/picture quality and deep blacks are insane for this price range, but there are issues — specifically with uniformity and TCL’s customer service. First off, I have some DSE (Dirty Screen Effect), but it’s the vertical banding that shows up pretty well with solid color backgrounds (Skies, etc.) That drives me nuts. This TV is having a ton of uniformity issues and TCL was sending out reps to fix these problems, but was denied any help from customer service when the many photos I sent in of my TV uniformity issues were not proving enough to warrant any fixture. From what I read at launch, TCL did a good job replacing faulty screens, but all of sudden started not doing it anymore (Check the TCL 2018 AVS Forums threads) unless it’s fully defective. I guess you get what you pay for.

Love the picture quality when it’s in 4K . Definitely looks like a higher priced tv.Canle picture quality is ok. Netflix and gaming and you tube look amazing since the signal is in 4K. Love it . For the price ...it’s a steal.

I purchased my first TCL 55R615 on August 4. By August 8 it had succumbed to the dreaded black screen. Fortunately, I was able to exchange it for a replacement that same day at Best Buy. WHY DIDN’T I JUST BUY A DIFFERENT BRAND??!! But no, I exchanged it for the same exact model, which died three weeks later - in the exact same manner as the first tv!! Unfortunately, it was beyond the window for a return so now I’m stuck going through TCL for repair. This sucks. I find it hard to believe Best Buy doesn’t know about this problem, from all the returns of these tv’s they must get... Very frustrated. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND AVOIDING THIS BRAND!

    Great, except vertical banding

I was holding out since the January '18 CES to upgrade to 4K with the 6-Series TCL TV based on the success of 2017's P series. I was first blown away by the affordability and picture quality of the P series in store model comparisons to high end sets. I was originally going to jump on the P-series, but felt confident that the 6-series should be better quality and more future-proof with newer HDMI 2.2 ports. At first, I was blown away with the quality of the 6-series for what you get for the price, but after a few days, the presence of vertical bands became harder and harder to ignore. They are only noticeable when you have a solid background, but think of situations such as a clear sky in a picture, or a web page if you use this on a PC. Once your eye catches the bands, they are hard to unsee. This complaint does not seem universal in following up on reviews so far, a week after release, but a noticeable percentage has persisted on store reviews and on Reddit comment threads. I have a Geek Squad plan with this TV, so I will sit on it a while to see how long it bugs me to replace the TV, and if this is a persistent issue that goes past the initial production generation. I'm not sure if I can recommend this TV at this time if you have the cash for a household-name brand, but darn is the price a spoonful of sugar. It's said you get what you pay for, but this TV was expected to rise above that. Now if that banding is not an issue, as people may not be as sensitive to it, or it may be a temporary production issue, then this is a no-brainer for an on-a-budget purchase to have a high-quality, user-friendly 4K TV. Roku is a great platform over any brand's native smart-TV software. I wish input switching had a dedicated button on the remote like most TVs, but really that's the only complaint I have. All the other configurability you'd expect for picture customization is present. This TV with Roku handles my Netflix and Hulu content beautifully, both in 4k picture and surround output to my sound system. I'm able to run my PC and GTX 970 in UHD. The local dimming works magic in stretching the technical relevance of backlit LCD panels. Blacks are essentially true blacks. In watching sci-fi shows such as Star Trek TNG, backgrounds such as star fields still show slight background grey in the black of space, but in turning off local dimming entirely, I was instantly reminded of the black level of my previous 4-year old LCD tv without local dimming. Larger areas with dark details show no background grey that I can tell, and pure black areas such as credits or letterboxes are completely black. The local dimming produces no effect of varying brightness over the screen, and any blooming has been really hard for me to discern over the glare my own eyes produce in high-contrast zones. I would like to hear more over the next few weeks if others have not experienced this vertical banding to see if it is just my TV. Until I know how wide-spread the banding issue is, I'm begrudgingly clicking the 'not recommend' button at this time.

Looks like 1080P do to sub pixel dimming/dithering

This review is for the 55” TCL 6 Series. Took it home excited. Turn it on. Right away I see the picture quality looks horrible. This TV although is advertised as 4k, looks more like 1080P. This is due to the use of sub pixel dimming/dithering. That means that every other pixel is dimmed creating a cross hatch pattern, essentially reducing the apparent resolution of the images presented on the screen. You get text and inages that appear pixalated up close and there is a pattern that the pixels give of that looks like cross hatching. You have to be aproximately min 5 feet away from the tv to not notice the cross hatch pixel pattern and pixalation even then at this distance or greater there is this overall blurriness that your eye can still pickup. Another example for you to more or less understand how the image looks is try to compare the screen resolution of the regular ipad vs the ipad with retina display, that is what you esentially get with this tv. Having said that yes the image this tv produces is bright and it has very good color saturation and I didn’t see any very bad dirty screen effects on my tv. The corners are slightly dark but this is common with LCD tv’s. The tv does exude quality though with it’s aluminum trim and yes subpar sub dimming pixel display. It this tv were 1080P it would be a perfect tv. Yes darks are not black in complete darkness. If you are thinking of getting this tv but the the 65” TCL 6 Series version of this tv. The 65” uses a proper sub pixel structure and doesn’t have the problem I mentioned.

We're sorry to hear that you were not able to see the same great picture quality a majority of our customers are seeing. This TV typically produces a beautiful picture.
