Brought set home and was happy until after less than 4hrs of viewing the screen went blank. Had to go through the trouble of returning it to store and buying a different brand, 1/2 a Saturday I'll never get back.

Owning this tv has made me realize I despise Roku. So it loses points for having that. As far as the tv itself goes. Picture is ok. We have the banding issues where in light backgrounds you can see gray shadows from the screen banding. What’s most infuriating though is when HDR is enabled any HDR content you watch will be so dark you can barely see it with brightness all the way up. You have to use an official Roku remote and go into a secret HDR menu (click home 6 times, rewind,play/pause, fast forward, play/pause, rewind > disable HDR) and disable HDR on the tv. Can’t use what you paid for. Also it will randomly stop putting out audio other than the Roku system clicks. When it does this you then have to unplug and plug back in the tv. Which then undos your disabling of HDR. So then you have to go through that whole process again. I hate this tv. I feel so strongly about it I won’t buy anything Roku or tcl again.

This TV worked for about 5 days before the screen spas'd out and broke, leaving only green and white solid lines across it. Returned it for full price to Best Buy (they were great) and got a Vizio instead. But the picture on this one was pretty good until it went kablooey.

This TV is extremely defective all over the place. TCL can not seem to get a grasp on QC with their TVs. The banding is awful and very prevalent. While contacting their support they brush it off and pretend selling defective panels inst an issue. and that its "normal". Really wish they had better customer service behind their products. Hoping for a recall. Regardless if there was no banding this would be the best TV out right now. But, myself along with thousands of others are getting ripped off. This TV should be $300.

I bought TCL 55 INCH series 6 TV from Best Buy on July 07 2018 (price at that time $586). TV was working fine without any issue or warnings till yesterday. Yesterday (9/20/2020) I tried to start the TV in morning hours but was not getting turned on. I tried to look for solution online and found that many other folks encountered similar issues. When I called TCL USA, they said this product has one year manufacturing warranty and it has expired. I also had extended warranty (for one more year) from Credit card and that also has expired. On asking potential repair solution or shop, TCL couldn't provide any solution. Without any repair or replacement available, I am stuck with only one option to buy new TV. Generally TVs last for 8-10 years if handled properly but in this case, even with proper and nominal use, TV is dead in 2 years. are we expected to spend $600 every two years on TV now ?

After less than two years of use, this TCL Roku TV has essentially failed. It shuts itself off at random. TCL says it is a "power board" issue, you are out of warranty, so tough luck. Please save yourself the trouble and do not buy anything from TCL.

Sony 49x900e vs TCL 55R615. TCL WON

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

I needed a TV for my office room, mostly watching some IP TV, and playing PS4. So I was considering between Sony 49X900E and this TCL 55R615. I also have LG OLED & Samsung 6300. and had Sony 65X930D. Sony 49X900E was pretty big disappointing. TCL R615 surpasses my expectation a lot. Along with the price difference, TCL R615 was the easiest decision that I made in this year. 1. 900E is also a full array local dimming, but it showed too much backlight leaking, made even dark scenes greyish. [VS] TCL has awesomely good FALD. it is almost Sony 930D level good, and in some video, it shows almost OLED good. Of cause my LG OLED shows just perfect black and TCL shows some blooming around edge but I didn't expect this much black from $600 TV. I even played my favorite Digital Foundry's 4K HDR Tomb Raider Youtube video side by side on both x900e & R615 and clearly TCL has much better black level, color, and motions (I think it is also related Sony’s OS) 2. Sony x900e has better peak HDR brightness. R615’s peak brightness is a bit less, but I am mostly plays some HDR game at night or dark room, TCL still has good enough HDR brightness for me. Some reviewer mentioned it is better then last year model p607 or p605. Since TCL has much better dark via FALD, the R615’s HDR looks really popping out thru the contrast. Sony x930d was very very bright. Sometimes it is too bright at night, so I had to reduced the brightness of that TV to protect my tearing eyes. If you want real HDR punch on your movies or games, you should considering buying x930e. it will open you a new HDR world. just not everyday usage for me. However, I don’t feel the same HDR on x900e. not really kicks that level. It is slightly little better then TCL, but there is disappointing backlight blooming and duller contrast with the slightly better peak brightness. I guess x930d has 1100 nits & x900e has 860 nits & TCL has 700 nits around, concluding my self real HDR kick needs over 1000 nits, good enough feel that HDR is on needs at least 600 nits. less then 600 nits HDR capability make no difference or even makes the color washed out. 3. I think colors on TCL is better. Sony also has pretty good one here too, however with that blooming and less contrast sometimes shows awful dark scene. Also Sony shows very disappointing banding and TCL show pretty looking good banding & gradients in the sky and etc. TCL supports Dolby Vision, does NOT support HDR HLG. Sony support HDR HLG but not supporting Dolby Vision. Both support HDR 10. 4. Sony shows much better PC screen from your PC or Mac. TCL R615 is ok but not as good as Sony x900e. if you have a plan to use it as your computer monitor, Sony 49x900e is way to go. 55 inch is too big anyway. 5. Sony has 32~40 ms input lag, TCL has 16~18 ms input lag. I played some PS4 game on both TVs but didn’t feel that much difference. but the smaller input lag is better. 6. I think Sony should have abandoned the Android TV OS a long time ago. Sony’s OS & apps are so sluggish. I have a exact same experience with Sony x930D. Often I cannot even finish a youtube HD video on the x900e because of a lot of buffering & occasional stops. When I seek or move the playhead of the youtube player on the Sony tv, it is painfully slow. also the video plays very choppy sometimes. I think it is coming from the slow android OS and the Sony’s lack of processing power. [VS] At the same spot, same location, TCL streams the same video really smoothly. So I know that is not my wifi issue. I think TCL has much simple and fast OS, better WIFI, and motion handling. This is the first time that I am using Roku as TV OS, I started liking it. very simple but works really well. have a lot of apps, almost all I need is there, including m3u player for IPTV. I think LG webOS 3.5 is the best. but Roku OS is also really well made, fast and looks very stable. I think Roku OS is better then Samsung TV OS as well. 7. The Sony’s remote control is very confusing, sometimes doesn’t response well, and really hard to type something. I had installed a Sony TV app on the phone to get some aid by the phone’s keyboard, but it never worked. [VS] TCL remote is very simple and easy to learn. the one thing Sony has better is it has a voice commend button and mic on the remote and TCL R615 does not. if you want to have the voice control, you need to buy R617 or install an Roku app on your phone. After you installing it, you can type your email or password or anything pretty easily on the TCL tv. well made and well connecting the app & TV. Also you can use private listening on TCL R617 remote or your phone’s Roku app. LG remote is like a heaven, TCL is good or ok, Samsung & Sony remote will get you frustrated from time to time. But I think Sony is the worst. 8. LG webSO 3.5 web browser with the air mouse in the remote is heavenly, Samsung has at lest one ok web browser that can play some video in full screen, but often stops. Sony doesn’t have official web browser on their OS, used to have Opera but not now. Since it is android OS, you can find many ways of work around it like installing unofficial apps etc. but the android TV OS is unstable, so it is almost impossible to finish a video on it, at least to me. combining it with the horrible remote, it is a nightmare. you can plugin any mouse or keyboard to the Sony TV, but just don’t go there. not worth it. TCL Roku OS doesn’t support any web browser. 9. Sony support Bluetooth, TCL doesn’t have Bluetooth. go R617 or Roku app for the private listening. but Roku app private listening needs to have good WIFI connections both on the phone & TV. otherwise it drops or chops the audio. just use 3.5mm jack if you like simple but solid solution. 10. Sony 49x900e uses less power, it has energy guid $19 sticker, [VS] TCL 55R15 has $34.

Less than a month of owning this tv (3 day runtime), the tv picture went completely out. All you can see is the grey shade from the backlighting. The audio was still working. I tried troubleshooting and resetting but did not help. I will be exchanging the tv today, but wow. What a disappointment. The tv was great up until this problem. I think I may be just one of the unlucky ones. I’m also wondering if it was because the lack of a software update. I did not connect my tv to the internet so it was never updated.

I asked the Best Buy guy if I could adjust color, sharpness, contrast etc to my liking on it and he assured me I could but when I opened it there were no settings where I could do that. When I called to check they confirmed that it didn't have them in this TV. Image quality is poor and overall color is too magenta, something that I knew would drive me crazy as a professional photographer who spends all day color correcting images, so I returned the TV. Wish the guy selling me it had been honest, or knew his products better. He said he wasn't able to show me the adjustment options on it at the time because their remote was synced to a different TV or some strange excuse. Anyway, not impressed with the overall sales experience or TV.
